The Causes of Higher Mortality Rate of African Americans in Case of Overdose During the Third Wave of Opioid Epidemic
Konečná, Kateřina ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
Diploma thesis addresses the topic of the opioid epidemic in the United States and focuses on the causes of the higher rate of overdose deaths among African Americans during the third wave of the epidemic. The opioid epidemic has claimed nearly one million victims since its onset in the late 1990s. In the public sphere, it is often associated with the white part of the population, which was hit the hardest in the early years of the epidemic due to the over- prescription of opioid painkillers. As the epidemic evolved from prescription drugs to illicit drugs such as heroin and fentanyl, its negative impact has spread to the rest of the US population, disproportionately affecting minority African American communities. During the third wave, opioid overdose death rates among African Americans increased disproportionately. This thesis examines the reasons for the higher rate of overdose deaths among African Americans. The thesis argues that African Americans are dying of overdose more because of the criminalization of drug addiction and the unavailability of drug addiction treatment. Based on available studies and academic articles, there is evidence that African Americans are criminalized for drug offenses and crimes more than the rest of the population, and drug addiction treatment is less accessible...
The use of ecotoxicity tests for the use of treatment technologies
Konečná, Kateřina ; Komendová, Renata (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
This diploma thesis is focused on the assessment of the effectiveness of treatment technologies in domestic wastewater treatment plants. For these purposes, samples were taken from 3 different domestic wastewater trearment plant. Two representatives of the aquatic ecosystem, the plant Lemna minor and the freshwater crustacean Thamnocephalus platyurus, were selected for the ecotoxicity assessment. For assessment from an analytical point of view, indicators were selected according to the Government Regulation on the discharge of water into surface and underground waters No. 401/2015 Coll. and 57/2016 Coll. All the selected residential cleaning plants correspond in size to 30–500 equivalent inhabitants, while they are used by approx. 10–20 inhabitants. The results of ecotoxicological tests confirmed that domestic wastewater treatment plants effectively reduce the level of toxicity. In all domestic waste water treatment plants, IC50 values for L. minor and LC50 values for T. platyurus were determined only at the influent, as neither inhibition nor mortality higher than 50% compared to the control group was achieved at the effluent. In L. minor, the growth inhibition values (IC50) on the influent were in the range of 9.39–43.99 ml/l, in T. platyurus the LC50 values in the influent were determined in the range of 5.6–20 ml/l. However, the results of the chemical analysis revealed that none of the water from the domestic treatment plants selected by us is suitable for discharge into groundwater or surface water, as they exceed the limit values set in government regulations.
Evaluation of the efficiency of root treatment plants via ecotoxicity tests
Konečná, Kateřina ; Procházková, Petra (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the evaluation of the efficiency of root treatment plants using appropriately selected ecotoxicity tests. For these purposes, ecotoxicological tests in an aquatic arrangement were used, specifically with the planktonic organism Thamnocephalus platyurus and the plant Lemna minor. The evaluation was performed at a municipal root treatment plant, which treats water for 955 equivalent inhabitants. The results of tests with T. platyurus confirmed that the root treatment plant sufficiently relieves acute toxicity of water. LC50 values were determined for two samples, 213.71 ml / l for the inflow and 388.20 ml / l for the settling tank. At the outflow, these values could no longer be determined due to the low ecotoxicological effect of the water thus treated. For tests with L. minor, IC50 values were also calculated for the first two samples. For Sample No. 1, the IC50 value was calculated to be 311.25 ml / l, for Sample No. 2 to 963.35 ml / l. However, on the basis of tests of direct toxicity of waters with L. minor, it is possible to confirm even in the case of this organism, a good cleansing effect of this root treatment plant.
U.S. Immigration Policy towards Mexican Immigrants in the Second Half of the 1990s
Konečná, Kateřina ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
This paper studies American immigration policy towards Mexican immigrants in the second half of the 1990's. It also studies the North American Trade Agreement that was essential for the American-Mexican relations. This paper aims to find out how the agreement influenced US immigration policy after its adoption, since there was a hope that in the long run it would regulate the migration flows. For this purpose, it studies the immigration aspects of the agreement and immigration policies, that were either passed or discussed in the United States. Based on that, it concludes that it cannot be easily proven that the adoption of the agreement directly influenced the immigration policy towards Mexican immigrants, since that was influenced by many other factors that could not have been studied given the scope of this work. Nevertheless, there was a bill that increased the number of visas for temporary workers, which was nothing new for Mexican immigrants, since this was introduced already in the NAFTA agreement.
Sebastiano Luciani (called del Piombo) and his cooperation with Raphael in Rome between 1511 and 1517
Konečná, Kateřina ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Konečný, Lubomír (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the early Roman work of Sebastiano Luciani, later called del Piombo. Sebastiano came from Venice and he went to Rome at the invitation of a wealthy merchant Agostino Chigi, which allowed him to work in his Villa Farnesina. Here in the Sala di Galatea Sebastiano painted al fresco technique eight lunettes with themes from Ovid's Metamorphoses and also created a separate fresco of the Polyphemus. Thanks to this first Roman commission he got in touch with the leading artists of that period, especially with Raphael, who also worked for Chigi. Raphael made a famous fresco of the Galatea in the same hall and he didn't try to follow Sebastiano's style. Their rivalry and influence on each other continued after Sebastiano left the Villa. Competition between them was also amplified by Sebastiano's friendship with Michelangelo, who was considered to be the exact opposite of Raphael. Michelangelo also created praparatory drawings for del Piombo, as the penultimate chapter outlines. The last chapter is devoted to the painting of Madonna with the veil, which is the only Sebastiano's painting in the Czech collections. Keywords Sebastiano del Piombo, Sebastiano Luciani, Rome, Villa Farnesina, Raphael

Komparace využitých přístupů k definování problémových regionů v ČR a jejich vyhodnocení
Konečná, Kateřina
This thesis is focused on analysis and mutual comparison of approaches used to identify "problem regions" in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part is focused on search available Czech and foreign literature in the field of regional policy, regional disparities and problem regions. On the basis of analysis conceptual documents and other relevant sources defining problem areas at different levels of governance is made a description of the specific methods used for defining problem regions, esp. at the level of higher territorial administrative units. Subsequently is made mutual comparison of used approaches and discussion their suitability, which is also the aim of this thesis. All findings are in the final part of thesis formulated into conclusions and recommendations.
