Typology of Post-Industrial Landscape in Usti Region
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Klimánek, M.
The location, mapping and typology of post-industrial landscapes (PIL) are the most common requirements of planners and decision makers on all levels of administration or resolution. Data on industrial heritage was applied for the identification and typology of the post-industrial landscapes on the regional level on the example of the Usti Region in the North of the Czech Republic. This Region was presumably the most industrialized territory in the country and was significantly changed after the structural changes in regional economy. The industrial heritage is represented by objects and traces in any landscape left by the industry in the previous period which is not serving the present industrial activities. Accessible data sources on man-made land, land use, brownfields, undermined sites, contaminated sites, industrial architectural heritage, etc. were applied to identify and classify the post-industrial landscape (PIL) in the study region using GIS technology.

New mapping of post-industrial landscape in Czech Republic
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Klimánek, M.
Using additional databases on industrial architectural heritage, 128 examples of post-industrial landscapes (PILs) were identified on the Czech territory. These PILs were subdued to the genetic classification. One-to four-word-names were applied to describe individual PIL types. Their geographic distribution was analyzed in the Czech Republic.

Postindustrial landscape – geographical look at the revival of traditional phenomenon of Czech lands
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Kirchner, Karel
The paper deals with postindustrial landscapes in the general level and in concrete territory. The inventory, classification and typology of such landscape on the territory of the Czech Republic are among other research tasks. The detail research is focused on the selected representative areas of the postindustrial landscape. The postindustrial landscape of Rosicko-Oslavansko (the former iron and coal industry area 20 km west of Brno) was subdued to the goal specific land use mapping and the contributions of the pre-industrial and the industrial periods to the present land use were inventoried.

Subjekt of thinking. Physical geography – a vision of Czech science for 21 st century
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Kirchner, Karel
The certain present retreat of physical geography from the primary scientific scene is assessed in the paper. The authors discuss sets of present strong and weak features of the Czech physical geography (tradition, expansion to foreign countries, application of modern technologies, openness to outputs from other sciences, as well as low its low promotion potential and dominanting focus on analytic research). The contribution is designed basically to open discussion about the future of the Czech physical geography.

The windthrows in Šumava Mts caused by Kyrill hurricane and terrain features
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Klimánek, M. ; Mikita, T. ; Svoboda, Jaroslav
Relationships between the windthrow origin and location on one hand and terrain features (slope, aspect, elevation, curvity etc.) on the other hand were geostatistically derived. While the impact of individual terrain features was statistically low, the complex terrain influence based in the terrain windthrow risk classes was statistically important. Advanced analysis of windthrows using GIS
Mikita, T. ; Kolejka, Jaromír ; Klimánek, M.
Forest damages caused by storm winds are very common event in Šumava Mts. since written history. Growing number of hurricanes here is followed by large wind fall and endangered local economy, nature protection, human life and recreation. Geographical analysis using GIS was applied to identify main factors influencing the location and level of damages.
