The impact of the debt crisis in the euro

This diploma thesis deals with the impact of the debt crisis in the euro area to status of the euro in the world. The first part describes the circumstances of the origin and progress of the debt crisis. In the second part are more fully described various monetary policy measures taken by the ECB in response to the debt crisis as well as their impact on the European economy. The third part analyzes the international role of the euro in sub-segments of the financial market in the period before and during the debt crisis and provides an overall picture of its impact on the euro.
Impact of the euro adoption to less developed countries of the EU

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of impact of the euro adoption to less developed EU countries, namely the PIGS countries. The first part defines the Maastricht criteria and their fulfillment by those States before joining the euro area. In the other two parts is analyzed the evolution of macroeconomic indicators before and after the outbreak of the financial crisis. These are the indicators of inflation, current account and net investment positions, the housing market and private loans, public finance, GDP and unemployment. In conclusion, there is an evaluation of the development of the individual countries on the basis of these indicators, assessed the suitability of the Maastricht criteria and the benefits of integrating these countries into EMU both for them and for the euro area as a whole.
Inflation targeting in case of imminent deflationary pressures - the example of CNB

This diploma thesis focuses on the use of inflation targeting as monetary policy regime in a situation of imminent deflation. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part introduces the basic mechanism of inflation targeting with its basic elements and describes its possible failure. The second part focuses mainly on the analysis of the economic factors which contributed to achieving the zero lower bound for the repo rate of CNB. The third part presents an alternative (unconventional) monetary policy instruments in case of achieving zero lower bound, in particular the use of the exchange rate. The end of the last part of this thesis analyzes the development of key macroeconomic indicators in the Czech Republic.
Inflation targeting in an environment of deflationary pressures

This research paper on monetary policy focuses on strategy of inflation targeting and its modification in an environment of deflationary pressures. Focus of this paper is based on three main points that correspond to the content of individual chapters. The first point is a theoretical analysis of the main attributes of inflation targeting with emphasis on analysis of the functioning of the transmission channels. The second point is an analysis of implementation of this strategy in the Czech National Bank and in the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. In this point separate analysis was made of the development of inflation targeting and transformation of relationship between macroeconomic variables in transmission mechanism. The third point then debates the modification of monetary policy instruments in the context of inflation targeting adopted by the Czech National Bank, with an emphasis on the introduction of exchange rate commitment. Throughout the work are used simple methods for analysis with further emphasis on the actuality. The conclusion summarizes the findings and evaluates the modification of the inflation targeting strategy as a positive phenomenon in the context of evolution of monetary policy.
Alternatives of central banking and ways of their practical application

This thesis at the theoretical level deals with possible alternatives of two-tier banking system with the central bank. Then in details it describes the analysis of one of them -- currency board. The application section focuses on three completely different countries that have been met with this system and have been strongly influenced by it. It is meant: European country Estonia, Latin American Argentina and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. This submitted work analyzes each currency board separately, discusses the economic situation before and after its implementation and also outlines the current developments in the economy. At the conclusion, there is their comparison and evaluation of the success of the currency boards.

Práce se zaměřila na hodnocení fiskální politiky v Evropské unii. V prvé části jsme shrnuli vývoj fiskální politiky a názory ekonomický směrů na ni. Druhá část se věnuje vybraným problémem fiskální politiky. Je řešena otázka optimálního fiskálního pravidla. Ve třetí části práce je zachycen vývoj v eurozóně. Poslední část se zabývá alternativami pro omezení fiskální politiky v eurozóně.
Finacial crisis causes and some of the instituonal answers

This master thesis deals with causes and some of the main instituonal answers to the financial crisis of 2007-2009. The thesis also ppresents a brief historical overview of US financial crisis. The main aim of the first chapter is to decide whether the US historical crisis have something in common. The answer is that the past crisis really share something and the difference is rather in historical circumstances. The second chapter is dedicated to some of the financial crisis causes such as Community Reinvestment Act,Gramm Leach Bliley Act, Commodity Futures Modernization Act and also to the role of moral hazard. This thesis is of a firm belief that the only aspect that can be blamed is the phenomenon of moral hazard. The last chapter is focused on the main instituonal answers to the crisis. Dodd-Frank Act, Volcker rule, reorganization of derivative market, some of the changes in rating agencies regulation and also BASEL III consequences for capital requirements are all under the radar.
The bank regulation and control in the Czech Republic after the financial and economic crisis 2007 - 2009

The thesis brings self-contained review of the bank regulation and control. The first part deals with the theory of the bank regulation and control and then the regulation and control of the bank sector in the Czech Republic is introduced. Next part deals with the brief analysis of the formation and development of the global financial crisis in the USA and chosen European countries. The last part introduces the changes in the field of the bank regulation and control that arose after the break out of the finacial crisis in the European Union. The conclusion of the thesis to a certain degree includes the attutide of the Czech Government and the Czech National Bank towards the newly introduced arrangements.
Alois Rašín influence on monetary policy of Czechoslovakia

This thesis maps the environment that was in the territory of the Czech and Slovak countries during the period of Austro -- Hungarian Empire, and then illustrates the post -- war consequences and starting conditions of the new state, the Czechoslovakia. Thesis explains the initial moments of the state and its economic situation. There is characterized Banking Bureau of the Ministry of Finance and the course of monetary separation. The actual chapter is devoted to personage Alois Rašín and his other achievements in the management of the economy.
Response of the Federal Reserve System to the current financial crisis

Objective of this paper is to assess efficacy and feasibility of measures undertaken by the Federal Reserve system during the financial crisis that erupted in the year 2007. Firstly, origin of central banking in USA is described, then structure and mandate of Fed. Discussion of causes of the financial crisis follows. This work sheds light on policies of Fed after the beginning of the crisis and analyzes their efficiency and suitability. The biggest focus is on quantitative easing and on its effects on long-term interest rates.
