Bohemia in the Merovingian age
Korený, Rastislav ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Sláma, Jiří (referee) ; Varsik, Vladimír (referee)
Bohemia in the Merovingian age - end of the 5th - 6th century AD Rastislav Korený Mining Museum Příbram Abstract The following objectives have been pursued in the dissertation: 1. A new commented inventory of sites from the end of the 5th and 6th century (excluding coin finds) which should become a reliable basis for an analysis of the collected material. The last inventory of such kind was created by Bedřich Svoboda approximately sixty years ago, i.e. in the 1940-1950s, and it was not published until 1965. The need for a new revised inventory became apparent over the recent years. During the physical re-evaluation of earlier finds and related primary visual and textual documentation, which was carried out in the years 1996- 2013 (30 museum and non-museum collections, 4 separate archival collections and other information sources were revised), there was a striking discrepancy between the published data contained in the catalogue of the above mentioned monograph and reality. The excavations carried out after 1965 also, naturally, resulted in the expansion of the amount of available source material. 2. Because the material currently available from settlements was published by Ivana Pleinerová in 2007, the analysis of the collected data concentrated, in addition to the identification of chronologically more...
La Tene period sunken-floored houses in Bohemia

Provincial brooches of the old Roman period in Bohemia
Pecinovská, Monika ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Droberjar, Eduard (referee)
Spony, (jakož i ostatní předměty) produkované řemeslníky na území římské říše, představují v barbarském světě velice zajímavý úkaz. Ten umožňuje alespoň lehce nahlédnout do složitého světa nepříliš průhledných či kategorizovatelných vztahů římského impéria a jeho nepoddajného protipólu Svobodné Germánie. V rámci barbarika mají Čechy v tomto ohledu významné postavení, co se množství i typologické skladby provinciálních výrobků týče. Problematika těchto tzv. importů na území Svobodné Germánie, se poslední dobou dostává čím dál více do popředí zájmu současné evropské archeologie doby římské. Výsledky tohoto studia v rámci evropských zemí či jednotlivých krajů jsou shrnovány v řadě Corpus der römischen Funde im europäischen Barbaricum. U nás pak jsou římské importy předmětem studia E. Droberjara (např. 1997; 2006a). Není bohužel zcela jasné, jakým způsobem se římské spony, jakožto římské výrobky obecně, dostávaly do rukou, respektive do hrobů a sídlišť germánských obyvatel. Dle výše uvedeného badatele se většina předmětů římské provenience dostala do Čech obchodem (2006a, 62). Jejich největší koncentrace spadá do prvých desetiletí našeho letopočtu, tedy do doby, kdy Čechy byly centrem tzv. Marobudovy říše (např. E. Droberjar 2000). Provinciální spony se nicméně vyskytují v průběhu celé doby římské....

Zahnašová, Markéta ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Jílek, Jan (referee)
Presented thesis deals with the settlement archaeology of the Roman Period in Bohemia and then introduces in detail also the findings of the Holubice settlement in the Prague-west district in this period. The work is mainly focused on processing and evaluation of archeological research at the sites "Kozákova zahrada" and "Na Ovčárně", which took place under the leadership of Vladimír Sakař between years 1977-1989. There was uncovered a part of the settlement from the younger part of early Roman Period and from the beginning of late Roman Period. Pottery sherds were evaluated with quantitative and qualitative analysis. The thesis also includes the analysis of unearthed objects and the outline of a shift of the land register of Holubice based on mapping of finds which were acquired through field exploration and detector survey. The thesis includes tables with drawings of shards of the pottery made by the author of this thesis (unless otherwise indicated) and also map tables from the archeological research and other inserts.
Roman-germanic relationship and contacts in roman age in the light of finds from roman provenance in Bohemia, maily TERRA SIGILLATA fings
Halama, Jakub ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Tyszler, Lubomira (referee) ; Musil, Jiří (referee)
Jakub Halama - anglický abstrakt dizertace Roman-germanic relationship and contacts in roman age in the light of finds from roman provenance in Bohemia, mainly TERRA SIGILLATA finds Abstract Dissertation thesis in particular are based on terra sigillata finds in Bohemia. In the first part of catalogue (certain finds) there are 103 pieces of terra sigillata from 52 localities (together 112 fragments and whole vessels). And in the second part of the catalogue (unsure or non-filed finds) other 23 - 24 pieces from 15 localities. Generally terra sigillata comes from German settlements, those are spread through all the main settlement areas of the Roman period. Records from the southwest Bohemia are also interesting. Main part from the datable 1st - 3rd century terra sigillata have goods from Rheinzabern (41 %) and from the central Gallia (35,9 %); ceramics from Westerndorf is less represented (7,7 %) and there are only few terra sigillata finds from the south Gallia, Trier, Heiligenberg and Pfaffenhofen. This combination of the finds is approximate to localities in Norikum province. Sigillata of this origin came through south Bohemia and Moravia, other direction went from Raetie through southwest Bohemia. An analysis on the spectrum of shapes of German pottery at a housing estate in Pasohlávky
Chytrá, Hana ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Musil, Jiří (referee)
My study is about shape spectrum of the pottery found at the settlement in Pasohlávky (late region of Břeclav). It is a germanic settlement, dating to a Roman period (-10 B.C. - 400 A.D.), situated in south Moravia. The purpose of this study is to identify shapes of pot shards discovered in the settlement structures such as cottages and settlement pits. In the analytical part I compare the shapes of vessels and a ratio of shards of pots, dishes, terins, stored-food vessels and other shapes. I also attempt to establish the number of vessels in the settlement. In the last part I describe the function of the vessels and their significant value in common life of germanic families.
Finds of Roman-provincial utility ware from Bohemia
