Parental care and sociality in family Halictidae (Anthophila)
Vinická, Eliška ; Straka, Jakub (advisor) ; Klimeš, Petr (referee)
Halictidae is an important family of bees interesting mainly for the diversification of social organisation of individual species. Their sociality ranges from solitary individuals who live and care for their offspring themselves, through species that build common nests, to eusocial colonies in which the reproductive division of labour has developed. Exploring such diversity among closely related species may contribute to understanding the evolution of sociality. Thus, we can observe the development of social organization up to its higher levels, such as eusociality, or conversely, gradual evolutionary regression to solitary individuals. For such research, however, it is necessary to know not only the phylogenetic development but especially a detailed description of social behaviour in individual species. However, there are few such studies. Some of them are summarized in this work.
Measurement and product inspection using 3D manipulator
Klimeš, Petr ; Čala, Martin (referee) ; Beneš, Petr (advisor)
In thesis there is research of 3D scanning methods in order to create method for contact and non-contact scanning of windsurfing boards. There is also research of measuring accuracy and repeatability of 3D manipulators. Repeatability is then measured for given manipulator and contact and non-contact sensors are tested for scanning windsurfing boards. Measured data is processed and compared to original reference data.
Analysis of epileptogenic tissue response to intracranial electrical stimulation
Formánková, Zuzana ; Klimeš, Petr (referee) ; Cimbálník, Jan (advisor)
This work deals with the methods of intracranial electrical stimulation and their usage in the localization of epileptogenic tissue. The aim of the thesis is to assess, with help of the proposed markers, the reaction of pathological tissue on the electrical stimulation. Among the suitable markers high-frequency oscillations were classified, interictal spikes, changes in the connectivity, and the signal power within the frequency zones. The markers were detected on the iEEG records taken at the Fakultní nemocnice u sv. Anny in Brno. A software in the Python language has been designed for the purpose of analysis and detection; the software uses the detection algorithms of the EPYCOM library. In the final part of the thesis, the occurrence of the markers was analyzed in terms of dependency on the electrical stimulation. The influence of the electrical stimulation on the iEEG records of patients with epilepsy has been proved.
Reproductive strategy of the termite Silvestritermes minutus and its consequences for the life history and ecological succes
Křivánek, Jan ; Hanus, Robert (advisor) ; Klimeš, Petr (referee)
Mixed reproductive strategies are unique modes of reproduction, in which the organisms alternate sexual and asexual offspring production to benefit from both processes. In termites, such a strategy was first described in 2009 and dubbed Asexual Queen Succession (AQS). Reproduction in most termite species is based on a presence of one pair of long-lived reproductives, the primary king and queen, producing in a lifelong strict monogamy all other colony members using classical sexual processes. In a few rare species, the primary queen has been observed to be replaced at some stage of colony development by a harem of neotenic queens. These arise from unfertilized eggs via thelytokous parthenogenesis and reproduce with the founding king. While the workers, soldiers and winged dispersing reproductives remain to be produced sexually, new generations of parthenogenetic neotenic queens appear in the colony to supplement the harem. As long as the founding king is alive, the genetic constitution of most offspring remains identical as if the founding queen would still be alive, while the overall fecundity of the colony increases thanks to the large number of queens. At the same time, the continuous renewal of the harem by new parthenogens offers a virtually unlimited lifespan extension to the colony. In my...
Analysis and Proposal for the Use of Brownfields in the Former ABB EJF Site
Klimeš, Petr ; Schmeidler, Karel (referee) ; Čech, Josef (advisor)
This master thesis deals with the current issue of reuse of "brownfields" in relation to the issue of sustainable development. The primary goal of the thesis is a detailed analysis and creation of a proposal for the best possible use of a particular brownfield in Brno. It is the former area of ABB EJF, which is located in the cadastral area of Ponava. For the proposal, it was necessary to first carry out a detailed analysis of the site with regard to the land-use plan of the city of Brno. The draft of the solution itself is processed in four possible variants due to their use. Subsequently, an economic evaluation of individual proposals is carried out, which are then compared with each other.
Reactions to frustration-differences between populations
Vecánová, Jitka ; Čáp, David (advisor) ; Klimeš, Petr (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on reactivity to everyday frustrating situations and it's differences between different groups of people. The thesis is divided in theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is written as a literary survey and is compiled from various academic sources and studies. It deals with the problem of everyday mental strain, it's definition and the different ways of reaction to it. It also compares reactivity between different groups based on age, gender, socio-cultural and economic status or cultural allegiance. It summarizes the connection between reactivity and personal traits, somatic problems and psychopathology. The practical part of the thesis presents a research proposal which compares reactivity in two groups of people that belong to different cultures using Rosenzweig's Picture Frustration Test. Keywords: Reactivity, daily hassles, daily stress, coping, Picture frustration study 3-5 klíčových slov v angličtině (Případně může být na další stránce abstrakt v jazyce, na jehož studium je student zapsán.)
Biology of myrmecophilous beetles
Bažilová, Jana ; Šobotník, Jan (advisor) ; Klimeš, Petr (referee)
Ants represent an insect group with a great ecological importance, and they are also a valuable source of food for a wide range of predators, parasitoids and social parasites. Myrmecophilous beetles make a significant part of these organisms. According to the specific selection pressures, myrmecophiles reveal a lot of adaptations, such as modifications of the body shape, functions of their extremities and new exocrine glands. These adaptations vary among species differing by the degree of their integration into an ant colony. Non-integrated species live near ant nests as predators and the hosts' behaviour towards them is always hostile. They are protected by thick and sclerotized cuticle, defensive substances and strategic behaviour. Integrated species are adopted by the host colony based on the imitation of hosts' recognition factors. These species have access to the hosts' nests, where they feed on ant larvae and pupae or they are fed directly by the ants. This thesis describes specific adaptations for life associated with ants, which are exploited by various myrmecophilous species. In several chapters it characterizes myrmecophilous organisms, their morphological adaptations, chemical mimicry and behavioural strategies used during interactions with the host. Keywords: myrmecophily, inkvilinism,...
