The current intensive and industrial agriculture in the Czech Republic has many nega-tive impacts on the environment. Agroforestry, i.e. growing trees on agricultural land while maintaining agricultural production, can minimize these negative effects. Tree species grown in agroforestry systems (AFS) fulfil a productive function and at the same time provide important ecosystem services. The aim of this methodology is to define agroforestry, characterize individual types of AFS and estimate their extent in the Czech Republic. The aim is to provide background materials on the basis of which it is possible to establish agroforestry systems on agricultural land. The result is a clear definition, classification and characterization of different AFS in Czechia. Furthermore, their extension is estimated, and their historical roots explained. The methodology of establishment of AFS proposes a suitable design, list of suitable of woody species and describes the procedure of correct tree planting and management. An important part of the methodology is the analysis of the legislative environment for tree planting on agri-cultural land, economic evaluation of AFS and also the selection of suitable subsidy titles for such establishment. Last but not least, the methodology summarizes the existing capacity building and education in agroforestry in the Czech Republic.

The aim is to evaluate the benefits and constraints of using agroforestry systems (AFS) in Czechia with a focus on the socio-economic, legal and environmental context. The project will evaluate planting of trees on arable land in areas affected by soil erosion and drought, and animal husbandry combined with tree components. Based on detailed literary review, socio-ethnological surveys, production and economic data gathered from farmers, the AFS benefits on the agricultural land will be fully evaluated. Furthermore, legislative constrainst and opportunities for tree growing on agricultural land will be analyzed. The final outputs will be the scientific publications and, in particular, the documents (methodologies) for the application and implementation of the agroforestry system in Czechia.
Back to the future. Etnographic research of Local Exchange Trading System in Toulouse
Lédlová, Eva ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Kala, Lukáš (referee)
The present diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS). Using the method of ethnographic research, the author sought a holistic description during her six-month participation in a LETS group in Toulouse. Drawing upon theoretical literature, she discusses the local forms of exchange, debt, the relationship to money and to the virtual currency. The findings show that such a system can change the perception of debt and the relation to money. The most common reasons for involvement are the need to establish social contacts, while the most pressing problem appears to be the lack of interest of young people in this phenomenon. Keywords LETS, ethnographic research, exchange, gift, debt, individualization, Toulouse
Responsible individual consumption as the first step out of the environmental crisis
Hosnedlová, Alena ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Kala, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the problem of global ecological crisis caused by the overconsumption of material goods particularly in countries of so-called rich North. In the theoretical part is individualized consumer embedded in the system of modern society, which indicates conditions of his existence. Then I discuss alternative options for environmentally-friendly lifestyle, especially its consumer component. I demonstrate several concepts of consumption mode conceived in terms of reducing the volume of material consumption. I discuss a way out of the ecological crisis through the internalisation of values leading to responsible and moderate consumption, the way of change from "bottom". The research was conducted through interviews with eco-consultants, who deal with consumption, as potential "opinion leaders" in this case. Key words Ecological crisis, consumption, consumerism, modernity, individualization, values, responsible consumption, modesty, environmentally friendly way of life

The thesis deals with the problem of global ecological crisis caused by excessive consumption of material goods, particularly in countries of "The Rich North" (western countries). In the theoretical part I set up individualized man as a consumer in the system of modern society, which indicates the conditions of its existence mainly through the market. I discuss the possible way out of the ecological crisis through ideological changes in the company initiated from the "bottom", based on the internalization of values leading to responsible and moderate consumption. I demonstrate alternative ways of life, environmentally friendly in terms of consumption, and discuss the obstacles and ways of its spread. The research was conducted through interviews with eco-advisers who are dealing with consumption, as potential "opinion leaders" in this case. I tried to look their conception of responsible consumption and their potential impact on society in favor of spreading the idea of an environmentally responsible way of life Key words Ecological crisis, consumption, consumerism, modernity, individualization, values, responsible consumption, modesty, environmentally friendly way of life
