What Is (Not) Talked About. An Analysis of Political Discourse of Care During Covid Pandemic
Homfray, Šárka ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis examines the political discourse on informal care during the first four pandemic waves from March 2020 to February 2022. The study explores three main themes: crisis care allowance, distance learning, and the position of single parents in the pandemic. The author uses critical discursive analysis methods, as developed by Norman Fairclough, to identify prevalent images and themes of informal care in political discourse. The analysis also assesses the degree to which informal care has been gendered and the interconnections between political discourse and other discourses, such as journalistic and expert discourses. Finally, the conclusion of the thesis provides an evaluation of the effects of the discourse analysed and assesses the political representation of informal carers.
Advocacy activities of parents of children with developmental disabilities under state socialism: Example of Inclusion Czech Republic (SPMP ČR)
Trusina, Tadeáš ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Synek, Michal (referee)
The diploma thesis is about the organisation Sdružení pro pomoc mentálně postiženým. Using the example of this enterprise, which was founded in the late 1960s from below and without political cover, the thesis tries to show the possibilities that parents of mentally handicapped children had at that time. From the beginning of its existence, this parent-based advocacy platform sought to highlight the paradoxical unsystematic nature of the domestic institutionalised system of care for the mentally disabled. Parents were bothered by the lack of choice, as there were only year-round institutions, restrictions on visits, and above all the impossibility of co-determining the fate of their mentally handicapped children. From the beginning, the Association tried to act as a partner of professionals and social welfare institutions as well as political representatives, both at the national and local level. At the same time, however, they had a clear and comprehensive programme, which they defined even before its official establishment. The issue is viewed through the concept of the "field of intellectual disability," an imaginary sociopolitical arena into which the Association entered as a new actor. Through the analysis of historical sources, the thesis focuses on the first 8 issues of the newsletter...
Intersectionality From the Perspective of Feminist Activist Collectives in the Czech Republic
Dařílková, Linda ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
Intersectionality is a topic that resonates with feminist activist collectives in the Czech Republic. Half of the collectives included in this research publicly identify as intersectional, while most of the remaining collectives identify with intersectionality at least to some extent. However, intersectionality is a complex theoretical concept, and one can ask how the collectives understand intersectionality and how they translate it into their practice. Much of the interviews revealed that discursive approaches to intersectionality are driven by an ethos of social justice, i.e. a better world for all. This implies an appeal to inclusivity, which was differentiated in several interviews between inward and outward inclusivity. Outward inclusivity was manifested by including more areas of social justice in the discourse and actions of the collective. At the discursive and practical level, I identified other, equally important, approaches to intersectionality, which I describe in this thesis. Intersectionality, in relation to the actual self-identification of collectives, also expresses an effort to distance oneself from exclusionary strands of feminism or activism in general, and in this respect intersectionality can also take on a normative character. Despite the research participants' largely (but...
Intersectional Analysis of the Climate Justice Movement: Austrian Visions for Climate Justice
Nebeská, Véronique Ananké ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
Intersectional Analysis of the Climate Justice Movement: Austrian Visions for Climate Justice Abstract This thesis examines the underlying concepts behind climate justice as perceived by the members of the Austrian climate justice movement, as well as to what extent these concepts are intersectional. The goal of the research was to unravel the activists' understanding of climate justice, both as a theoretical concept and as a lived reality. It applies an intersectional perspective while drawing on feminist research when ascertaining how the category of gender as well as other social categorisations such as those of class, social status, race etc. are approached by the movement. Ultimately, visions and utopias for a climate just world are employed as a tool to outline how climate justice would look like on the individual, the collective, and the global level. Keywords: climate justice, intersectionality, gender, ecofeminism
Eating Disorders from a gender perspective: disease, or part of life?
Kaválková, Kristýna ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
Eating Disorders from a gender perspective: disease, or part of life? Bc. Kristýna Kaválková ABSTRACT This dissertation deals with a problem of "eating disorders", which are defined in medical literature, media and magazines as psychological disease, which relates to pathological way of dealing with food, body and himself/herself. It shows that that this area is not neutral from the gender point of view; eating disorders are usually women's matter. Based on semi-structured interviews within the framework of qualitative research, this work analyses opinions of women, who have experience with this, especially their experience of their physicality and daily life. It is also focused on how women perceive the presentation of eating disorders, which concerns them, in media, medical publications and society and how they interpret their status as those who are recovering from this illness. Women's testimonies point at the fact that their surroundings look at them as persons defined through their illness, as persons, who are exclusively connected with pathology and stigma. This view of surroundings, media and specialists, however, omit the diversity of human identities. It shows that women alone can interpret their experiences in different way. They perceive their eating disorder in the context of dominant discourse...
More-than-human cohabitation: gentrification, displacement and belonging
Dědková, Linda ; Lorenz - Meyer, Dagmar (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
More-than-human cohabitation: gentrification, displacement and belonging Linda Dědková This thesis examines displacement and gentrification, using the example of the department store Karstadt at Hermannplatz in Berlin. The ecofeminist critique of the binary division between nature and culture is central to my argument that gentrification and displacement are influenced by complex natural-cultural processes. The thesis utilizes a combination of ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, and affective reading of historical materials to investigate the historical interlinks between the construction of the Karstadt department store in the 1920s and the present-day situation. I argue that gentrification surpasses the architectural and demographic transformation of a neighborhood and is often rooted in intersectional oppression. Furthermore, displacement encompasses intricate more-than-human relations and processes, such as ways of shopping, and destroys complex local ecologies. Lastly, the agency of materials has a direct influence on the transformation of neighborhoods. The findings demonstrate that non-human agents can play crucial and dynamic roles in the interconnected economic, cultural, and ecological processes that facilitate gentrification. Key words: more-than-human relationships, gentrification,...

Bláhová, Andrea ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis titled Czech Popular Music as a Platform for Thematization of Female Sexuality deals with young Czech female performers who, through the lyrics of their songs, interviews in the media, and performances at concerts, thematize the female experience. I analysed the selected song lyrics of five female performers, their interviews and notes from the field diary using qualitative content analysis and further interpreted the results in seven different thematic categories. The thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, I mainly focus on defining post-feminism and post-feminist sensibility, popular culture and the perception of physicality in the environment of popular music. The empirical part consists of methodology, qualitative content analysis and subsequent interpretation.
How drag performers challenge and disrupt our understandings of gender: a case study of the Slovenian drag community
Muršič, Nuša ; Helman, Ivy Ann (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
CHARLES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF HUMANITIES M.A. Program in Gender Studies Nuša Muršič How drag performers challenge and disrupt our understandings of gender: a case study of the Slovenian drag community Diploma Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Ivy Helman, Ph.D. Prague 2023 Abstract The common perception of drag is that of imitating the "opposite" gender. Drag has, however, been evolving, and its implications for gender are explored in this Master Thesis. Feminist circles are usually divided between regarding drag as proliferating gender hierarchies and stereotypes or drag as a tool for subversion and new possibilities. I have conducted my research on the case study of the Slovenian drag community in order to reach results through doing interviews and participant observation. My results pointed to drag influencing the perception of gender via offering the space for experimentation and questioning. For both the drag performers, who were my interview participants, and for the audience of drag shows, drag loosened their strict perceptions of gender and the rigid gender binary, and showcased gender as a complex concept, which offers possibilities for gender play, can be fluid, as well as changeable. Gender hierarchies, are, however, to an extent still present when it comes to doing drag and drag communities. Keywords Drag,...

Legal and criminalistic aspects of crime scene investigation in criminal proceedings
Kolářová, Kateřina ; Šelleng, Dalibor (advisor) ; Dvořák, Marek (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the legal and criminalistic aspects of crime scene investigation in criminal proceedings, This metod is specified in the current legal regulation of section 113, Act No. 141/1961 Coll., Czech Criminal Procedure Code. Crime scene investigation is one the basic procedural acts, which often provides the only information about the investigated crime. Further, this special method provides key evidence leading ultimately to a final decision in the criminal proceedings. There are high demands on criminal authorities to investigate the crime scene. A possible misconduct could lead to the unusability of the investigation of crime scene as evidence in criminal proceedings. This is also highlited by the nature of investigation of crime scene as an urgent and unrepeatable act. The text of this diploma thesis consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, there is general definition of crime scene investigation, its basic characteristics and principles. The following is a brief definition of the legal interpretation and a comparison to the upcoming version of criminal procedure code. The content of the other chapters are criminalistic-tactical principles applied in the actual investigation of the crime scene, from security measures to the inveestigation of crime scene itself....
