Helmich, Daniel ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the political communication of selected candidates for the office of the President of the Czech Republic at the end of the pre-election period on the social networks Facebook and Twitter. The selected candidates include Danuše Nerudová, Andrej Babiš and Petr Pavel, who had the highest electoral potential at the end of the election. The thesis aims to describe and analyse their political communication on social networks, with the analysis of personalisation and negative political communication in the posts being the core themes of the thesis. In the theoretical part, personalisation and negative political communication are set in a broader framework of knowledge, based on the development of political communication and its current trends. Based on the results of the thesis, the ways of conducting political communication of selected candidates are further compared in relation to the thematic focus of the analysis. A quantitative content analysis of the selected social networks of the three political candidates was determined for this research, which provides answers to the set research questions and hypotheses.

Kruhlova, Olena ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
Master's Thesis COVID-19 pandemic in selected Ukrainian media gives an overview of the Ukrainian media system with a focus on media ownership and its outcome in the end publications. By choosing three different types of ownership: privately owned media, pro- governmental media and opposition-owned media, we took a look at how the media published articles about COVID-19 at the very beginning of the pandemic. The methodological basis of this work was framing research, which is meant to uncover trends and the ways in which information about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is presented through the analysis of headlines in the chosen online media sources. The results of the framing research revealed that the frames are indeed present in the materials of the chosen media sources at the beginning of the pandemic. The representation of the frames was discovered to be different from the initial assumptions. The main discoveries revealed how privately owned media are more prone to fearmongering and hope frames, while the politically connected media were statistically less prone to publish anything politically coloured. The results of the study highlight the importance of media responsibilities during the time of medical crisis and how the general public must be critically aware of the dangers of...

März, Michäel ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)

The analysis was also interested in the presence of politicians' evaluations in the speeches of members of the Czech Television staff, the valence of the questions asked within the debates, the speeches of external speakers within the Události, but also thematic programs. and the space associated with them, which was provided to the individual candidate subjects in the monitored broadcast sample for expression.
Crisis exploitation coverage: Comparative analysis of 2 unprecedented crises
Strnadová, Kristýna ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the phenomenon of media exploitation of crisis events in selected Czech media, using the media crisis exploitation theory as a conceptual framework. Using the examples of two unprecedented crises, the Covid-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic and the ammonium nitrate explosion in Lebanon, this study analyses the diversion of two Czech media outlets, BLESK and Mladá fronta DNES, from journalistic norms and standards across four dimensions: journalistic style, framing of the crisis, the balance of political sources, and tone of reporting. The selected media failed to provide journalistic standards in times of crisis as the study proved a substantial deviation from these standards, with a predominance of descriptive journalistic style using issue-framing when constructing the crisis image, unbalanced use of political actors as sources of information favoring the governmental parties, and lacking the critical point of view on the political leaders portraying them in neutral or positive tone. The analysis also reveals that there was a greater shift from journalistic standards in the case of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the case of the tabloid BLESK. Overall, the study underscores the active role that media organizations play in creating possibilities for media crisis...

Halesova, Jana ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The research is of interest in the media presentation of the second presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union in selected Czech podcasts. Special attention is paid to podcasts focusing directly on events in the European Union during the Czech Presidency in the second half of 2022. Specifically, the thesis analyses the podcast of Czech radio Český rozhlas Bruselské chlebíčky, the podcast of the Deník.cz Evropa pro Čechy and the podcast of the news website Euractiv.cz Europa zblízka. It focuses on media coverage of podcast topics and actors and deals generally with the structure and processing of episodes of individual media with an emphasis on the specifics of the media format. It also offers a comprehensive overview of podcasting and provides basic information about the European Union and the Presidency. Media presentation is processed using content analysis and frame analysis. The aim of the thesis is, among other things, to determine what aspects connect the individual podcasts and what makes them different. The ambition is also to find out whether the media manage to bring objective and relevant content and thus partially correct the negative media image from 2009 when the Czech Republic held the EU presidency for the first time and when its reputation in Europe was...

Starková, Johana ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This thesis, titled Oligarchization without an oligarch: analysis of TV Nova news broadcasting after a change of owner, focuses on a currently highly debated issue of oligarchic media ownership. The oligarchic media ownership model is a trend in current media ownership. Research on media ownership answers key questions about who owns these means of communication and how power is potentially exercised through their ownership. In 2020, businessman and billionaire Petr Kellner ranks among other media magnates through his investment group PPF. With the acquisition of the media company CME, he takes control of all activities of the most watched commercial television in the Czech Republic, TV Nova. Through this investment, Kellner's PPF achieves enormous influence. Based on quantitative content analysis, this thesis aims to determine whether the news coverage of this private television station tends to favour topics that support the business or other economic interests of the PPF Group. The research sample of the thesis consists mainly of news reports broadcast on Nova TV. The key value for the research is the analysed amount of time devoted to the PPF Group in comparison to their competitors.

Kratschmer, Adam ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The importance of social media in U.S. politics is on the rise and influences what journalists write about, which can affect what readers consider important. During the last presidential election, Twitter became an important communication tool for one of the candidates, Donald Trump. The first part of this thesis examines Trump's communication strategy on Twitter during both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Specific Twitter tools that may have influenced the resulting number of responses are analyzed. A higher number of reactions to tweets caused them to reach journalists more often, who reported the content to their readers, thus giving Trump's account more attention. The second part examines the intermediate agenda-setting effect between the most circulated US newspapers and Trump's tweets, and tracks how often Trump, and his Twitter account were referenced in selected media outlets during both presidential campaigns. Using quantitative content analysis, it was found that the use of the twitter account varied significantly during the campaigns and different tools received different responses. It also showed that there were common themes, but also very different themes. When comparing mentions, it was found that Trump and his twitter account were mentioned significantly less than in the...

Populism as a political style: analysis of Facebook communication of selected presidential candidates in the run-up to the 2023 Czech presidential elections
Drahota, Jan ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This thesis analyses populist content as a political style. Populist content is examined in the Facebook communication of the candidates for the presidency of the Czech Republic in the 2023 elections. The period under study is November 2022, i.e. the pre-election period. Populism as a political style is represented by authors Benjamin Moffitt and the pair Jan Jagers and Stefaan Walgrave, who conceptualize characteristic elements of populism that can be analytically examined. The aim of this paper is to determine whether candidates use these elements in their Facebook communications, and if so, in what ways and to what extent. A secondary aim of the thesis is to determine the relationship of user interaction with each populist element. The theoretical part introduces the concept of populism and its possible understanding in academia. Furthermore, the theoretical part introduces social networks and the functioning of their infrastructure in terms of content dissemination. The practical part focuses on the communication of individual candidates and captures the phenomena under study, interpreting them in detail.
