History and present of nurses' professional organisations in our country

This dissertation gives an overview of establishing the nurses' professional organizations and their development in the Czech Republic from the past to the present day. The first chapters are dedicated to the events that were closely connected to the formations of the first associations. The next chapters are dealing with the work and efforts of these associations to improve the standard of the nursing profession. The rest is describing the work of nurses and their associations during the war, after the war and during the communist era until 1970. The last chapters continue to describe in detail the structure, organization and work of our biggest and the most important professional organizations, as it was Česká společnost sester and nowadays Česká asociace sester. The aim of this project is to describe the organizational work of nurses in context with the given time period and pointing out the important events relating to nurses and their profession. I collected the data and information by using the information technologies and the literature available. I also received valuable information from talking to a former member of the Česká asociace sester.
Growth assessment of breastfed infants

Growth charts, body size, especially length and weight are important tool in evaluation of the proper growth and development of children in pediatrics. Interpretation of the growth curves of breastfed children, and the assessment of adequate nutrition and the possible introduction of milk formula or complementary food is highly dependent on adequacy of reference data. Based on preliminary studies, the National Health Institute (11) was expressed hypothesis about differences in standards-date growth of the World Health Organization (WHO) published in 2006 (19) and is currently of the reference charts for Czech children, based on 5 and 6national anthropological research (6,16). Automatic acceptance of these new reference WHO data and assessing the growth of breastfed children due to the following reference data would lead to incorrect assessment of growth of breastfed infants, and thus unjustified and premature introduction of milk formula or complementary food. Expected slower growth of healthy breast-fed Czech children, and smaller weight gain especially in the sixth month of life compared to the results WHO study, would lead to the unnecessary introduction of milk formula, or complementary food, and so would be inconsistent with full benefits and long-term breastfeeding, and thus in contrast with the...
Prognostic indicators of risk of death and the consequences of purulent meningitis

Purulent meningitis is a life-threatening acute infectious disease of the central nervous system. In preantibiotics period was almost one hundred percent fatality rate of disease, with the discovery of antibiotics and their introduction into medical practice in 30th-50th of the last century has decreased dramatically. In recent decades, despite the use of highly effective antibiotics and intensive care procedures, there was no significant reduction in mortality rate and consequences of the disease. Lethal course of the disease affects 15-30% of patients in adulthood. Although not a common infection diagnosis among the top ten infectious causes of death worldwide. The study was based on evaluation of their own group of patients to determine prognostic factors observed history, course of illness and laboratory characteristics of the clinical outcome of disease in adults.
