World of Cerebral Palsy
Kudláček, Miroslav ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Titzl, Boris (referee)
- Miroslav Kudláček "World of Cerebral Palsy" The aim of this project is to describe a process how people suffering from Cerebral palsy are getting to know their own disability. It is characteristic for this disease that its first symptoms develop not later than one year after the birth. So if follows that this man/child does not have a chance to gain any kind of experience of what it means "to be healthy". Therefore his point of view as far as his disability is concerned is completely different from those people who, for example, have had a car accident. The paper therefore intends to deal with a cognitive process how such disabled individuals cope with this problem. Theoretical part will be based on social constructivism (Berger, Luckmann, Kabele) and Piaget's "psychology of development". Methodological part should consist of interviews with people with Cerebral palsy which they will analyzed by concept Grounded Theory.
Formation of witness testimonies collected at CVH Malach

Sources of trust in intelligent virtual assistants
Janouš, Jakub ; Numerato, Dino (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the sources of trust in artificial intelligence, and how these sources are conditioned by social representations. It examines what risks the user is aware of when using artificial intelligence and how various factors affect the user's thinking. Artificial intelligence is represented in my work by intelligent virtual assistants (IVA). Based on semi-structured research interviews with their users, I have identified as the main sources of trust: neutrality, belief in the future, fulfillment of expectations and closeness. The first two sources are constant and based on social structure, while the last two sources of trust are based directly on user experience and are variable over time. It was also found that social representations have a significant impact on sources of trust. I divided all social representations into three categories - mechanicality, personification, intangibility, according to which the user's perception of artificial intelligence could be assessed and, based on that, his thinking about it. Because of this, I have proved that the trust of users is conditioned by social representations. An important part of trust is risk awareness. In my work, I have identified six main risks that users are aware of: unexpected software error, mechanical error, misuse of...
"Train your brain!": An Analysis of Game-based Approaches to Qualitative Research in Social Sciences
Cuker, Ivan ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
There are a few examples of the application of game-based qualitative research methods. Therefore, we lack an analysis of the nature of data that such methods would produce. So, the goal of my diploma thesis is to find out in what ways the data obtained using game-based research methods represent the ways in which people actually perceive and experience social reality. For this purpose, I analyze seven group discussions carried out with the use of a research memory game in which players match cards with financial terms written on them with possible definitions of these terms. I have designed an analytical framework using Alfred Schutz's theory of relevance, Erving Goffman's theory of the presentation of self and Pierre Bourdieu's conception of knowledge. With the aid of these theories I managed to reach several findings which might be fruitful for a future usage of this research instrument. The participants of a game-based research might hide behind their player's roles and thus be able to interpret even sensitive topics such as the financial literacy. The game environment of the memory game research allowed the players to introduce new topics and interpretations into the group discussion despite the fact that such topics might be irrelevant to the research goal. Such cases are rather marginal...
Stigmatization of mentally ill from the depression and anxiety patients' point of view
Štěpánková, Tereza ; Horák, Vít (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
The thesis is a study of mentally ill patients with depression and anxiety and their view on stigmatization in contemporary czech society. The thesis introduces the problematice in the context of current political precautions and research including comparison with abroad studies. It points out the current state of psychiatric care in the Czech republic and destigmatizing activities which aim to change this state. Based on ten interviews with patients with diagnosed depression or anxiety, the thesis shows that the stigmatization in case of these patients is not seen in such nature, as defined by literature. The participants experience large scale of negative reactions, however many of them do not meet definitions of stigmatizing attitudes. Their experience with stigma is different in different parts of their life, partly based on whether the people close to them have a previous experience with mental illness or not. The fear of stigmatization is present more often than the stigmatization itself. The participants point out the low awareness of the public considering the stigmatization of mental illness, however they do not participate in destigmatizing activities in any way. Interesting finding was fear of establishing a family, presented by some of the female participants and very frequent use of...
Lived epilepsy: management of disease and embodied knowledge
Sedláčková, Tereza ; Hrešanová, Ema (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the lived everyday practice of patients with epileptic seizures and the types of knowledge they are working with in relation to seizures. Particular attention is paid to patients' embodied knowledge as the practical knowledge based on the experience of epileptic seizures and their bodies in general. The thesis shows how the types of knowledge (such as triggers, auras, forms of seizures or their management) are based on, created and learnt through the embodiment. Lifestyle regimens associated with seizure management are introduced as a link between general recommendations and individual regimens, with seizure management being negotiated with regard to other aspects of patient life. While adhering to management, there is some communication, cooperation and negotiation between the patient and his body. Finally, other forms of knowledge about seizures are outlined, such as those created by people close to the patient and those created by assistance dogs. (Furthermore), it is also explained what these forms of knowledge mean to the patient and how to work with them.

The Rise of Direct Democracy in the Czech Republic: Sources, Use and Consequences
Dvořák, Tomáš ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Šaradín, Pavel (referee) ; Vráblíková, Kateřina (referee)
In the last few decades there has been an expansion of institutions of direct democracy in most developed countries. The Czech Republic has been no exception and over the past 25 years, there has been a rise of direct democracy in the Czech Republic. The aim of the dissertation is an analysis of the use of direct democracy in the Czech Republic. Although the analyses are based mainly on data from the Czech Republic, the aim is also to contribute to scholarly debates in the field of direct democracy research. I focus on the following questions: Who supports the use of direct democracy and who participates in it in the Czech Republic? How do voters form opinions and what are the characteristics of direct democracy campaigns? What is the effect of direct democracy on other forms of political participation? I view direct democracy as an institutional innovation and evaluate it based on three criterions: inclusiveness, competence and efficiency. First, I focus on who supports the expansion of direct democracy. I also study the patterns of turnout of various social groups in direct democracy (inclusiveness). Second, I analyse the processes of opinion formation in direct democracy campaigns to find out, whether it can be regarded as competent or not. Last, I analyse whether direct democracy leads to increased or...

The thesis focuses on the analysis of a dispute regarding home birth and discourses associated with it. The thesis focuses on the analysis of a dispute regarding home birth and discourses associated with it. The thesis focuses on the analysis of a dispute regarding home birth and discourses associated with it. Choice of location and proces sof giving birth in czech environment remains very limited and domestic deliveries are subject of controversy among professional medical community and state institutions on the one hand and midwives, civil movements and comitted mothers on the other hand. Theme divides laical and expert public. It's established through discourses, reflect the views and opinions of the two quarreled groups - supporters of medically controlled childbirth and supporters of natural birth. In the context of media reporting can be identified two main streams of discursive formations, scattering of concepts, thematic choices, objels and modalities of coming to the statement - medical discourse and natural discourse. The controversy both discourses in the Czech media escalated with court case with midwife Ivana Königsmarková, who in 2009 assisted at home birth that ended tragically - serious damage and subsequent death of a child. Just on the case of Ivana Königsmarková and its...
