The Political System of the Second Czechoslovak Republic
Konkrétněji se v této kapitole věnuji ústavě, fungování státní správy, soustavě státních orgánů, hospodářskému režimu a dodržování občanských práv a svobod. Samostatnou kapitolu jsem přiřadil stranickému systému, na kterém byl nejviditelnější úpadek demokracie. V této kapitole popisuji možné podoby stranického systému a velkou pozornost věnuji Straně národní jednoty a Národní straně práce. Dále popisuji stranický systém na Slovensku a objasňuji fungování neloajálních opozičních skupin. V závěru budu aplikovat Linzovu teorii autoritativních režimů na případ Druhé republiky, čímž zodpovím onu výzkumnou otázku.
The Plans of the Czechoslovak Resistance-In-Exile for the Post-War Organization of Czechoslovakia and Central Europe in the Period of 1938-1945
Roudnická, Zuzana ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to describe the Czechoslovak resistance plans for the post- war organization of Czechoslovakia which were to be implemented after the end of the Second World War but have never been accomplished. Firstly, the situation in the Czechoslovak resistance is presented. The paper discusses the formation of the Czechoslovak resistance, its transformation into the Czechoslovak government-in-exile, activities of the resistance and problems which needed to be dealt with. This part is essential for understanding latter chapters of the paper. The plans for the post-war organization of Czechoslovakia are studied in the main part of the thesis. The paper features concepts concerning topics such as potential territorial changes, federalisation of Central Europe (including the Czechoslovak-Polish Confederation project), future political system, and the Sudeten German issue. Each concept is described in the context of its background, its development over the course of war, and position of the Allies. The thesis explains the reasons why these plans were abandoned and not carried out after the end of the war.

I use here primary sources which I found during study in the Archive of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. I conclude the thesis with summary of answers to research questions.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership - trade between the EU and the USA in the 21st century?
Hlavnička, Jindřich ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
The aim of this thesis it to offer a complex overview of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). This international agreement is being negotiated between the United States and the European Union. The main goal of this agreement is to create the largest free trade area to date. I wish to claim that the TTIP does not merely concern trade, but there is a clear geopolitical underlining for it too. When the communist world collapsed, the United States became the sole remaining superpower. Nowadays, the West is facing a different world that fosters new challenges as well as opportunities. The rise of China and Russia puts pressure on the West again. The TTIP seeks to reflect new challenges in world politics. A successful agreement would clearly demonstrate that countries across the Atlantic are still the closest partners. In this thesis I aim to find a causal link between this agreement and the current situation ushering in a shifting balance of power in world politics. I intend to employ two main branches of theories of international relations to verify my hypotheses. The first theory, realism, is equipped to answer questions about power and national interests. The second branch of theories, liberalism, is well applicable so as to indicate different actors and their participation in...
Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the monetary integration in the EU
Bendl, Ondřej ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the process of euro adoption in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Regarding the time frame, it mainly covers a period of 2004-2014. Nevertheless in order to maximise plausibility of results, this thesis focuses on relevant moments beyond the above mentioned period as well. The main aim of this thesis is to analyse a variation in the relationship of both examined countries towards the process of European monetary integration. Whereas Slovakia joined the Eurozone in 2009, the Czech Republic has not fulfilled its obligation stemming from the EU membership yet. The secondary aim of this thesis is to verify the power of IR theories dealing with transfer of sovereignty on the supranational level. Thus, this paper strives to identify whether the constructivist or rationalist (for the purposes of this thesis represented by ideational liberalism and commercial liberalism / liberal intergovernmentalism) theoretic paradigm is more accurate in its attempt to explain the examined variation. In order to fulfil this aim, methods of difference and congruence are applied. However, each of these methods shows different results. According to the method of difference, an explanation based on commercial liberal / liberal intergovernmentalist logic of economic-materialistic consequences may...

Europeanisation of urban development policy: Comparative case study : UK and Germany
Zoubková, Věra Thea ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
Věra Thea Zoubková Europeanization of Urban Development Policy Comparative Case Study: UK and Germany Diploma Thesis Abstract This thesis deals with the vertical (top-down, bottom up) and horizontal Europeanization of urban development policy. Involvement in EU-sponsored programmes has provided urban institutions with unprecedented access to new sources of information, legitimacy, and financial support. This thesis seeks to evaluate whether European working has provoked shifts in the institutionalised norms and values at the national and city level, focusing on the experience of Great Britain and Germany. The legacy of the Bristol Accord and the Leipzig Charter, two examples of the uploading of national policy, is then examined. It can be argued that by drawing closely on domestic policy agenda, as well as wide ranging-nature of the agenda, little has resulted from the UK's contribution to the emerging EU urban agenda. This contrasts with the more sustained legacy of the Leipzig Charter. And third, the involvement of British and German cities, as well as impact of their participation in European urban cooperation programs is examined and evaluated. It is argued that previous experiences with the programs facilitate joining in other EU projects of city cooperation.
The Republic of Turkey - with or without? A comparative study on German and British policy towards the question of the EU-accession of Turkey.
Georgievová, Hana ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
The main target of my thesis is to determine the causes of divergent positions of two countries - the Great Britain and Germany - on the issue of Turkey joining the European Union. Using three theoretical approaches - neo-realism, neo-liberalism and constructivism - I am identifying three possible causes: overall positive/negative profits for the security dimension, overall positive/negative earnings for the economic dimension and the cause of the national identity. On the basis of the positions of Germany and the Great Britain three hypothesis are made rising from these theories. Within the security dimension the potential of Turkey of maintaining the security of both countries against security threats is researched. An important concept here is the intensity of perceived security threats to individual states. Within the economic dimension are examined economic benefits or costs for both countries, allowing them accepting Turkey would arose. This section focuses on three main areas: economic implications for both countries from the inclusion of Turkey into the internal market, consequences for budgetary policy and consequences for both countries arising from the free movement of Turkish workers. Recent theory to determine the causes of different attitudes is constructivism. Here I identify the...
