Textual analysis of the plays by Ivan Vyskočil
Působilo zde asi dvacet lidí, mimojiné i otec Jiřího Suchého se svým loutkovým divadlem. Vyskočil během gymnaziálních studií píše pro tuto "scénu" své prvotiny. Je autorem většiny textu kabaretu Múza...

Hrubá, Eva ; Janáček, Pavel (advisor) ; Bílek, Petr (referee)
This thesis focuses on the key period in the life of Czech society which relates to political and all-society changes linked with the year 1989 and the fall of the communist regime. The results of transitology research, focusing on the transformation of society from a totalitarian into a democratic system proved, that the process and result of the society transformation greatly depends on the ability to absorb the heritage of the past. Conscious evaluation of the part of life in nonfreedom and under oppression seems to be absolutely essential for further development, even though it might bring, that the newly built society might sometimes find difficult so solve. Using the transitology knowledge and the findings from the research of the transformation of society from a non-democratic into a democratic constitution, the thesis tries to map, how much the social change has affected the Czech literary context. It focuses mainly on the change of literary life elements, i.e. participants in the literary communication. It follows the processes and their consequences, which are typical for the transformation from a totalitarian-directive model of literary life into a democratic-liberal one. The most significant consequences are difficulties to come to terms with the past, when proscribed authors and their works...

Czech literature under the shadow of the Third Reich
Borovička, Lukáš ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Janáček, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this work is to re-construct the mentality of the 1930s in Czechoslovakia. Methodologically, it is based on the Belgian concept of "worldview" (Center Leo Apostel), "a symbolic system of representation that allows us to integrate everything we know about the world and ourselves into a global picture." From this perspective, every text represents a certain worldview (the boundary between literary and nonliterary texts isn't relevant). Stanley Fish's notion of "interpretative community", defined generally, is transferred into literary history, where it allows to divide cultural field into plural subcultures. In the second part, I analyse the identity of the nation in terms of cultural and political relations with other countries. The Sudeten crisis means crisis of the national identity, questioning of the state borders and thus of the existing Order. Other tendencies, typical for the Czech literature of the 1930s, are the disputes between democratic and totalitarian principles, between Modernism and Conservatism, between apolitical and politicized literature. Other current topics are e.g. reflection of a Jew, conception of "labour" and in this framework oscilation between Masaryk's democratic conception and forced labour in the context of dictatorship or the vision of the "crisis of civilization"...
Science-fiction as a Picture of the Time Period
Farkaš, Martin ; Vašák, Pavel (advisor) ; Janáček, Pavel (referee)
Velký rozvoj vědy v 19. a 20.století ovlivnil nejen každodenní život člověka, ale i vznik a rozkvět literatury science fiction (sci-fi, SF). Informační a technický boom zasáhl do všech oblastí běžného života. Zažila nebývalý rozkvět i pád. Období fascinace technikou se střídalo s obratem к člověku, období filozoficky zaměřené tvorby s lacinou akčností. Přesto sci-fi dospěla. Stala se rovnocenným partnerem hlavního proudu literatury. Spolu s ním má...

A family picture through the short stories of Ignát Herrmann
Fuchsová, Ilona Anna ; Vaněk, Václav (advisor) ; Janáček, Pavel (referee)
This Diploma thesis interprets five collections of stories by Ignát Herrmann (Drobní lidé I. [Small people I.], Muž bez třináctky [A man without number thirteen], Rodiny a rodinky [Families and little Families], Staří mládenci [Old Bachelors], Z chudého kalamáře [From the poor inkpot]) written between 1870 and 1900, and focuses on the subject of 'the family'. 'The family' is initially qualified as a basic social unit, and subsequently implanted in to the context of Czech middle-class society between 1870 and 1900 as a two generation family, with a definitive and functional division of male and female roles. The analysis of Herrmann's characters in numerous family roles, clearly illustrates the importance of 'the family' in the author's stories, and is conclusively considered as the high point of Herrmann's work.
