Andean universe in the aspect of childish narrator

Diplomová práce se zabývá pohledem dětského vypravěče na andský svět. Tato perspektiva je analyzována na základě románů dvou peruánských spisovatelů: Hluboké řeky od José Maríi Arguedase a Kronika ze San Gabriel od Julia Ramóna Ribeyra. Práce je rozdělená na teoretickou a analytickou část. Teoretická část pojednává o indigenistickém literárním proudu, životě autorů a románu formování. Analýza uvedených děl je rozdělena do tří částí: tematický, kompoziční a jazykový plán. Tematický plán reflektuje konfrontaci dvou světů (andský a západní) a motivy, které romány sdílejí. V kompozičním plánu jsou rozebrány veškeré náležitosti související s kompozicí děl a navíc výsledek dosaženého vývoje ústředních protagonistů. Jazykový plán se zaměřuje na postavu vypravěče a rozbor využitých jazykových prostředků. V závěru je vyhodnocený rozdílný pohled hrdinů na andský svět. This thesis analyzes two Czech versions of the novel "La Vorágine" by José Eustasio Rivera. The theoretical part of the thesis targets on the life of the author, the literary tradition of Hispanic America and the novel itself. It discusses the translators biographies and explains the theory of ageing of translations. The empirical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of selected chapters of the novel and is based on the theoretical model by Katharina Reiss. The symbol and the importance of animals in the Latin-American fable with regard to pre-hispanic tradition

The content of this Bachelor's thesis called The symbol and the importance of animals in the Latin-American fable with regard to pre-hispanic tradition is focused on the definition of the concept of fable as a literary genre, its form, function, scale and language by which it is characterized. It's further defined and compared with other genres it could be confused with and whose development it had an influence on. The probable origin and presence in ancient Greek and Roman literature is also mentioned. This part of the work is focused on the most important ancient authors like Aesop, Phaedrus and Babrios. The European tradition continues with fables of La Fontaine and as with the previous authors, the work evaluates his style and also focuses on the life story of the writer. As a rarity the mini fable by Karel Čapek is mentioned. The specifics of fables in the Latin-American region are described further. This thesis defines these as an individual literary genre and provides description of the formation of fable in this region. Among other things this work stresses the importance of typing, which is very important for the Latin-American fable, becuse the authors intended to shape their stories into unique local style, therefore it was necessary to replace the European names of the animals with local...

The interactive comedy, Eduardo Rovner: She returned one night

Main aim of this bachelor thesis is an analysis and interpretation of the interactive comedy She returned one night written by Eduardo Rovner. The theoretic information about categories of comedies is used like an approach of the theme. In following paragraphs there is an outline of the author's life and his authorship, then the bachelor's thesis dedicates to parcicular aspects of the comedy as composition, linguistic and thematic aspects. The last part of the thesis applies off to overall world vision formulation in that skript, also considers production posibility. The personal characterization of performance in Branické theatre in Prague is not missing as well.

Indians in the life and work of Gabriela Mistral

The American Indians in Gabriela Mistral's life and work The Chilean writer Gabriela Mistral, with legal name Lucila de María del Perpetuo Socorro Godoy Alcayaga (April 7, 1889, Vicuña, Chile - January 10, 1957, New York, USA) considered herself as a mestizo. Her father had indigenous ancestors from the tribe of Diaguitas and her mother had Basque ancestors. The American Indians, pre-Columbian inhabitants of Americas, were one of the topics she was interested in. Her interest in the American Indians, their ancient culture and their actual position in the society, is reflected in her literary creation. In her poetry and in her prose appear the motives related with the pre- Columbian civilizations and also the topic of the agrarian reform. Acording to Mistral, everybody has the right to own his part of the land and also to the education. Keywords: João Guimarães Rosa, Brazilian letters, translation poetics The aim was to translate the Brazilian language innovator's novel, add an interpretative commentary and draw conclusions pertinent to Rosaean studies and translation poetics. An introductory first chapter proposes an interpretation of the work in the literary history context. The translation itself attempts to reflect the musicality of the original while maintaining its semantic content. The third chapter analyzes its text with respect to the translation methods and strategies used, and is concluded with an overview stemming from critical reflection. Emphasis is placed on the problematics of poetic language and its translatability, the Mallarméan chance and necessity as well as motivation and arbitrariness of the lansign, and on the ratio of intentionality in translation. The text is analyzed in the light of Saussurean anagrams and the ensuing paragramatic theory as well as Derridaean différance, while the best appropriate to translating seems to be Meschonnic's concept of rhythm as well Mukařovský's semantic gesture. A proof has been established concerning closeness of the Benjaminean concept of translation and Rosa's quest for a "language of metaphysics". A search for the Mexican identity in the essays of Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes

The work focuses on the specifics of the Mexican culture in the essays of Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes. It considers the need of self-expression and self-delimitation in the national and the Latin-American level. It makes connection to the previous essays on the Mexican culture by Alfonso Reyes and Samuel Ramos and other essayists. It characterizes the approach to the Mexican history and its historical specific moments, to its partial components and an overall view. It observes the style of the essays and the particular elements, which the authors observe in the Mexican culture, and compares the essays from the historical point of view and from the personal view of the authors.

Chicano cultural identity in the USA: Tomás Rivera and Roberta Fernández

The thesis focuses on theme of cultural identity of Mexican Americans. The introduction is based on the common history of Mexico and the United States of America (the question of the immigration, the Chicano Movement, Chicano Spanish). Attention is paid to the conception of Mexican American literature and essayistic, poetic and narrative work of Tomás Rivera, the major representative of the Chicano movement literature. The most important part of this work consists of the analysis of some peculiar motives in Rivera's cycle ...And the Earth Did not Devour Him, that create a picture of Mexican American life (the motive of religion, despair, journey, etc.). To understand the integrity of Mexican American literature, (i.e. the literature of the Chicano Movement and the Chicana literature) Rivera is compared with Roberta Fernández's novel in six stories Fronterizas. 1

Translation as a Cultural Phenomenon. Geirge Steiner: After Babel.

The thesis is based on the translation of a seminal work by George Steiner After Babel (1975), published in Triáda Publishing in 2010. The study presented in this volume is divided into three parts: the first one sketches a general portrait of George Steiner as a literary and cultural critic, language philosopher and a Jewish thinker much of his thought is dedicated to the Shoah. The second part traces Steiners intellectual profile with regards to his life story. The third part introduces Steiner's poetics and ethics of translation, paying attention especially to the phenomenon of translation in the colonial and postcolonial world. It maps the succession of metaphorical images Steiner uses to pinpoint translation and interpretation in general, especially the metafor of war and of hospitality. It concludes that a metaphorical use of the term "translation" for the whole field of understanding, interpretation and cultural tradition is not of much help in our apprehension of what translation proper is.
