The Reference of German Imperial Family to Nazism
Kozlová, Tereza ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
The bachelor thesis discussed the attitude of the German imperial family towards Nazism in the 1930s and 1940s. It aimed to answer why the conservative Hohenzollern dynasty collaborated with the radical right wing party and in which areas they seemed to reach the common ground. The first chapter focussed on the relations between the former emperor, Wilhelm II, and the Nazi Party. The following chapters discussed relations between the national socialist government and other dynasty members, including the crown prince Wilhelm and prince August Wilhelm. The author concluded that the relations were of a parasite-like nature, where the emperor tried to use the movement to regain the throne, while the Nazi Party made use of the political capital that the emperor enjoyed with conservative citizens and royalists. The relations were clearly to the Nazi's benefit, who took over the power with the help of the royalists. On the other hand, the links with the Nazi Party disgraced the dynasty. Keywords Hohenzollern, Nazism, Adolf Hitler, Wilhelm II., Hermann Göring, Weimar Republic, restoration of monarchy

Brázdilová, Monika ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive view at the development cooperation of the European Economic Community in the 60's and 70's years of the 20th century in relation to the countries of the Third World with a focus on African developing countries. It also deals with the analysis of the very concept of development, development cooperation and development policy. The thesis is conceived from the general to the particular, where are first discussed the main concepts, the grouping and contracts supplemented with more detailed analysis. At first is briefly described the establishment of the EEC and the characteristic of grouping ACP. Then comes the analysis of the actual development cooperation and measures with which was the aid realized. Another two sections are devoted to comprehensive contractual framework of cooperation, which is in this period defined by part IV. Treaty of Rome and the Implementing agreement, two conventions of Yaoundé and the First Lomé convention. In the Lomé Convencion, there were a lot of significant changes made in terms of equality between the EEC and the ACP countries, as the concept of association was changed to the principle of partnership during the time. The development aid had to be managed somehow as well, so in next chapter is the topic of the...

We can not omit to mention a social profile of these decorated men, which provides us with broader point of view of their personalities. Last but not least, the thesis deals with the question, whether the Austrians took part in war crimes committed by the division. The Helsinki Conference and the Cold War
Hannibal, Marek ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Koura, Jan (referee)
This Thesis is to examine the topic of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe which took place in 1973-1975. The proposals to convene the Security Conference date back to the fifties, when the Soviet Union called on the European countries to attend the Conference in order to resolve the security situation in Europe. During my research, I asked what motives were behind the invitation to convene the Conference and what caused the failure of these initiatives. I prove that the ultimate goal of the Soviet Union was not the conclusion of the collective agreement, but rather to weaken the West. In chronologic order I follow the development of the relations between the Warsaw Pact and the NATO in the sixties, which eventually led to the start of the Conference in 1973. I also describe interests of groups of countries during the Conference and analyze their role in the adoption of the Final Act.

Juhaňáková, Veronika ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
6 Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the life story of Ernest Prince of Schwarzenberg (1892- 1979). The 20th century was a century of upheavals and changes. All events of this hectic century are significantly reflected in Ernest's life. Ernest was born into the aristocratic family of Schwarzenberg, whose roots date back to the early 12th century. Members of Schwarzenberg's family held important position under the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. On this basis, Ernest received a proper upbringing and education. During the World War II he was a soldier on the front lines in Poland and Italy, but he also served in the imperial court in Vienna. After 1918, Schwarzenberg had to find its place in civil society in newly formed Czechoslovakia. In 1936, due to inheritance from his uncle Frederick II., Ernest became a landowner and tried to take care of his estate in Tochovice. During the World War II he had to defend Tochovice before Nazi rule and after the war he had to defend himself and his Czech nationality. After 1948, Ernest remained as the only one of the Schwarzenberg's family in communist Czechoslovakia. He lost all his assets, twice ended up in a communist prison, and yet refused to leave the country. The aim of this diploma thesis was to show the life and fate of Ernest Schwarzenberg with all the twists,...
The Indochina War in the Time of Nixon and Ford Administration
Šulka, Petr ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Koura, Jan (referee)
After the year of 1968, which was crucial in the history of the war in Indochina , a new phase of a conflict started to evolve. The United States, under President Lyndon B. Johnson, after the Tet offensive and massive domestic protests, finally retreated from the goal of military victory and changed its strategy to get out of the conflict as quickly as possible. Johnson had established negotiations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Paris, which the South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu systematically negated. As it was later revealed, this was done in cooperation with the Republican candidate for President Richard M. Nixon, who wanted to do this in order to compromise policy of a Democratic president and take his place himself. Nixon, after his appointment to the presidency, assumed that renewed negotiations in Paris would be simple and would lead to the rapid end of the war. Soon it became clear that it was a mistake. North Vietnamese and communist insurgents in South Vietnam managed, due to conflicts caused by Thieu and by the delay between flares, to restore their strength and they were no longer willing to retreat. Negotiations bogged down in fruitless debates and disputes. Nixon and his closest collaborator Henry Kissinger were forced to seek other solutions. On the...
Causes of civil war in Korea
Brožek, Kamil ; Tumis, Stanislav (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
The thesis is a summary of what I studied about Korean War, the 20th century's first war led by the United Nations against an aggressor country and at the same time one of the most important milestones of the Cold War. The objective of this thesis is to provide an integrated overview of all the events and circumstances that led to Korea's partition and to civil war rather than to bring forward new findings. The first chapter describes the circumstances in Korea after the end of the World War II and the engagement given to Korea by the Allies in connection of the expected defeat of Japan. The second chapter focuses on different development of political situation in the north and south of Korean Peninsula. The third part provides an analysis of the situation in connection with international politics and the groundwork for a permanent division of the peninsula. The fourth chapter contains description of birth of two independent Korean countries, the fifth focuses on the years 1948-1950, when the tension between two hostile Korean regimes gradually escalated. In the sixth chapter I concentrate on the beginning of the civil war. At the end of the thesis I provide a summary of all important factors which predetermined the breakout of the conflict. The Korean names in the thesis are cited according the Czech...
Vietnam war during Lyndon B. Johnson presidency (1963-1969)
Adámek, Václav ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
Second indo-Chinese war between communist North Vietnam and non-communist South Vietnam has become the longest war incident in twentieth century. President Johnson who inherited this problem after tragic assassination in November 1963 led USA into the war in Southeast Asia. L. B. Johnson preserves continuity of foreign politics of USA with President Kennedy's politics. USA strictly supported South Vietnam and was ready to risk an open war for its regime. The incident in Tonkin Gulf in August 1964 led to escalation of the war. A tension developed during next months when North Vietnam departed to guerilla war. The reaction of USA to guerilla war was huge bombing of North Vietnam and as well deploying thousands of American soldiers into service in land war operations. President Johnson's political credit was decreasing fast. An essential twist occurred in the beginning of the year 1968. Vietcong (South Vietnamese communist) and North Vietnam army launched the widest offensive during Vietnamese conflict on feast day Tet. Victorious wars become a fiasco under view of cameras and medias. After Tet offensive it was no longer possible to speak about USA victory. Medias, people and public opinion was not willing to continue in jungle war. President Johnson changed some top officers in army and personally announced...
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945). Portrait of the 32nd president of the United States of America
První zahrnuje léta 1882-1910, druhá 1910-1932 a třetí léta nástupu do prezidentského úřadu a "fenoménu Nového údělu". Z tohoto pracoviště byly použity prameny ze třech fondů: Roosevelt Family, Business, and Personal Papers: Harvard College: Notes and Papers: the Roosevelt Family, dále dokumenty z fondu Roosevelt, Franklin D. Papers as New York State Senator 1910- 1913 a také primární zdroje z fondu...
