Experienced and witnessed. The house of Collalto, World War I and Interwar Period Portrayed in Ego-documents of Maria Theresa Collalto
Jánská, Barbora ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
The bachelor's thesis outlines several chapters from the life of Countess Marie Therese Collalto e San Salvatore (1866-1940), a member of one of the oldest European noble houses, occasional writer, feuilletonist, and author of three so far unpublished memoire texts, which are crucial for this study. Through them, the countess reveals many everyday aspects of life of the nobility in the end of "the long 19th century", as well as some important milestones in the history of her own noble house. Last, but not least, she also describes the functioning of a monastic hospital of the Order of Malta in Sofia (Bulgaria), where she worked as a head nurse during World War I, or the life of European aristocracy between wars, especially in the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The analysis of these sources - egodocuments - can thus offer a riveting and authentic insight into many subjects of social history, gender history or history of the elites, which have still been neglected by our domestic historiography. This thesis is the first modest attempt to introduce the personality and work of Countess Collalto in her historical context to a contemporary reader. Key words: Collalto, egodocument, aristocracy, World War I, women's history, history of the elites
Edmund Schwarzenberg and a Crisis of the Noble Society in the Interwar Period, 1918-1939
Míka, Pavel ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Županič, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyses the biography of Prince Edmund Schwarzenberg, a member of one of the richest and noblest houses in Europe. The main aim of the thesis is to expand his personality on the basis of historical sources and thus create a more comprehensive view of a man who was completely out of his time. He lived almost his entire life in debt and socialized with people of a different status than was common given his background. At the outset, this work introduces the reader to the context of a time when the old orders of the monarchy were literally being shattered and new states with different political systems were being created, which it was the members of the higher families who had to face. This person faced this new era in a rather special way, which is why this thesis is dedicated to him. Keywords: Edmund Schwarzenberg, Nobility, The House of Schwarzenberg, Edmund Černov.

The First Decade of the Existence of the Federal Republic of Germany as Seen Through the Eyes of the Czechoslovak Military Mission to the Allied Control Council in Germany - The Development of the Problem from the Second World War to 1958
Fousek, Pavel ; Pešta, Mikuláš (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
The period of more than ten years after the end of the Second World War is characterised by revolutionary changes that led to the emergence of new power formations. After the Second World War, the Cold War divided Europe and the world into two antagonistic camps - the West represented by the United States of America and the East led by the Soviet Union. The new balance of power also had a major impact on Czechoslovak-West German relations. The complexity of this relationship was due not only to the historical context itself, with its painful wartime experiences, but also to the fact that the Federal Republic of Germany had from the outset sought integration into Western structures, while the Czechoslovak Republic was transformed after February 1948 into part of the so-called Eastern bloc. The diploma thesis focuses on how the Czechoslovak Military Mission, which operated in West Berlin from the second half of the 1940s in the role of Czechoslovak diplomatic and consular representation, reflected Czechoslovak-West German relations. The aim of this thesis was to find out how this military mission interpreted the events in the Federal Republic of Germany in the period from 1949 to 1958 in terms of three key points - the issue of forcibly displaced people, especially the so-called Sudeten Germans, the...

Margaret Thatcher's Government Policy Regarding Central Europe
Šmigol, Ondřej ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The thesis analyses British foreign policy regarding Central Europe during Margaret Thatcher's government and her personal relationship with Central European countries. It takes account of three case studies. The first one analyses the British policy regarding nominally socialist countries in the last decade of communism. It investigates Margaret Thatcher's relationship with the first independent trade union in Soviet sphere, Polish Solidarity. The second study focuses on British policy regarding the crumbling communist regimes. It is an analysis of the British stance during the German reunification negotiations. The last study focuses on Thatcherite reforms as an inspiration for the post-communist countries. It examines Czech economic transformation and its inspiration in Thatcherism. The goal is to show, that Thatcher's policy was much more complicated than it is generally assumed. In the case of Poland, she was a key person in securing Solidarity's negotiation with the government; at the same time, she was afraid of weakening the government, as she regarded it as weak link in Soviet power. In the case of Germany, she went against her own Foreign Office, when she was against strong Germany and did not want to weaken Gorbachev. In Czechia she was a "shining example", however the translation of...
Phenomenon of conservative revolution of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan
Co této revoluci předcházelo a jaké měla místo v anglosaském konzervativním myšlení a politice?
British Broadcasting Corporation during the Second World War (1939-1945)
V dramatickém období největšího světového konfliktu v dějinách se stal rozhlas primárním zdrojem aktuálních informací; vládě umožňoval rychlé a účinné zveřejňování bezpečnostních pokynů a prostřednictvím cílených kampaní ovlivňoval chování obyvatelstva. ...
The reflections of political and social development in Slovakia between the years 1939 and 1945 on the pages of novels and short stories
Šindler, Robert ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the reflections of the development in Slovakia between the years 1939 and 1945 on the pages of Slovak domestic prosaic literature, which was written in the period of the communist regime. This literature serves the role of primary sources. I have analysed the secondary literature mainly to compose the historical and literary introduction. I have strived to use mainly the studies written after the fall of the communist regime, which challenge previous misinterpretations or bring new knowledge of historical research. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first chapter is the analysis of the historical events, which occurred in Slovakia in the period of the so-called Slovak state - its creation and development, its participation in military actions of Hitler's Germany, Slovak National Uprising or its gradual liberation and the fall of Tiso's regime. The second chapter focuses on particular phases of development of the so140 called uprising literature. The third chapter is comprised of analyses of selected prosaic pieces with consideration to their reflection of the historical reality. Preferably representative sample was chosen from the set of pieces of uprising literature. These analyses are focused on relation to historical reality as it is reflected in the plot and in...
