Selected Aspects of the European Union's Energy Policy
Hylmarová, Šárka ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
The thesis is concerned with the stability of the energy market with oil and gas in the European Union. It first characterizes the development of energy policy. The next part specifies two essential types of primary energy -- petroleum and natural gas. This chapter deals with the measurement, mining and also describes the proved world reserves that influence the delivery of these energies into the European Union. The following chapter deals with the stability of the internal market for oil and natural gas. It describes the stability of demand for this kind of energy, the stability of supply and the stability of prices. The final section outlines some of the ways, in which the European Union seeks to enhance the stability. One of the ways is maintaining and deepening relationships with external suppliers and other major energy consumers. Another way to encourage energy stability is to increase the efficiency of energy use, which leads among others to a reduction of the European dependence on supplies and it also lower resource depletion.
Control of mergers and acquisitions in the EU in energy
Nymburská, Eva ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
First chapter of this thesis describes the formation of EU policy on energy and summarizes the current objectives, which should be followed by the European Union in the field of energy. There are also mentioned the main actors in the European energy market (i.e. markets with electricity and natural gas as the main focus of the thesis). Third, i.e. the last chapter is devoted to the possible consequences of mergers and takeovers (especially dominant position and its abuse). Specific Problems Concerning Regulation of Network Industries
Lebedová, Daniela ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the results of liberalization and deregulation of the electricity sector in the European Union with a special focus on creating the internal electricity market. The first part focuses on EU energy policy. The aim is to present the wide range of policies and measures that influence the development of the internal electricity market. High attention is given to legislative measures and their proper implementation by the Member States. The following section deals with the process of liberalization and deregulation with regard to specific economic structure of the sector. The adopted measures are framed in the context of the specific economic characteristics of the electricity market, which relate to the existence of the so-called natural monopoly. The third part is devoted to regulation, regulators and their responsibilities in the internal electricity market. It focuses on their powers, methodology and cooperation within the EU. In the fourth part the regression model was developed that assesses the impact of specific variables characterizing the changes occurring in this sector on the price of electricity in Germany, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Poland and Hungary.
Public Utilities in the EU: Evaluation of Electricity Industry Regulation in the Czech Republic
Hába, Stanislav ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
The thesis scrutinizes public utilities (network industries) with focus on electricity market regulation. In the first part, a public utility is defined, including its economic characteristics and need for regulation. Within their regulation various models are introduced - in terms of level, voluntary/mandatory, ex ante/ ex post and branch of government. Further, the basic prerequisites for successful regulation are derived from the theory (independence, information capacity and trustworthiness). The second part is concerned only with electrical power industry with its characteristics, business model and regulation (both in the Czech Republic and in the EU). In the third part, an evaluation scorecard is created, which allows us to examine the quality of electricity regulators. The criteria in the scorecard are based on prerequisites (enforcement power, scale of resources, independence, dispute settlement, appeal procedure, transparency and consistency) and results (competition support, renewable energy resources and consumer protection). The model is applied to Energy Regulatory Office (Energeticky regulacni urad) in the Czech Republic.
Aspects of Czech energy market liberalization in the context of European Union
Bačová, Michaela ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis takes a comprehensive overview of the electricity market liberalization emphasizing the impact on households. Despite efforts to create a common energy market, competitive environment is significantly influenced by the presence of natural monopolies in the transmission and distribution sector. Possibility to switch electricity supplier may lead to price savings, but due to high proportion of regulated components in total price of electricity, liberalization itselfs creates only little space for lower price. Electricity price is influenced by many factors, but strong interdependence of Central European region enhances the risk of being influenced by higher prices. This thesis divides electricity market into individual subjects with regard to the proportion on total electricity price for end user.
The limited liability of the nuclear power plant operators in the european context
