Study of changes on spindle and chromosomes vitrified and in vitro maturated human oocytes
Holubová, Kateřina ; Kratochvílová, Irena (advisor) ; Libusová, Lenka (referee)
The aim of this work is the comparison of cryoprotection methods for human oocytes regarding their survival rate and subsequent success in in vitro fertilization. This work showed the effect of oocyte maturation characterized by the state of the meiotic spindle, chromosomes and polar body on the success of in vitro fertilization of standard (fresh) and vitrified oocytes. The acquired knowledge will lead to a better understanding of the relationships between the state of oocytes and specific in vitro fertilization and cryoprotection procedures. The final, application-interesting goal will be to propose the optimization of methods for working with oocytes so that the probability of their success in the IVF cycle is as high as possible.

The influence of pacemaker implantation on the patient´s life
HOLUBOVÁ, Kateřina
Bachelor thesis concerns with the issue of perception and effect of the pacemaker on patient and his life. The theoretical part deals with particular illnesses as indications to a permanent cardiac stimulation. It also describes individual examinations that a cardiological patient can undergo. Major category comprises of regime measures and recommendations on how to perform with a pacemaker. This category is systematically divided into specific spheres, in which a problem or a potential risk for the pacemaker as well as for the patient can arise. The practical, research part is done with a help of a qualitative research survey with a half-structured interview as a tool of information obtaining. The questions were drawn in order to cover the life before pacemaker´s implantation, during the stay in hospital and to catch the following adaptation to the pacemaker and to this reality. The research group comprised of 10 patients implanted 4 - 8 months before the survey. The aim of this thesis was to find out what effect the pacemaker and his implantation have. The results show the effect of pacemaker mainly in connection with complications experienced. Our respondents admitted that adaptation to the pacemaker took them some time. The exception was the respondent who did not accept the pacemaker, especially in connection with the feeling of the mechanism in the body and the visibility of the devices under the skin. From the interviews with the respondents, we clearly show that their lack of a brochure, information material about the risks associated with this problems. The results obtained and information collected lead to our decision to issue an informative leaflet for patients, which also became an output of the bachelor thesis. This booklet contains the experiences of patients who have already had a pacemaker implantation.
Home sweet home? Expats and their various ways of creating a home
Holubová, Kateřina ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Zandlová, Markéta (referee)
This study focuses on expats, professionals and specialists from English-speaking countries who were sent by their employers to work abroad in Switzerland. They together with their families, were asked to move to a foreign country and start new lives. Although the relocation does bring a change in career and in most cases, a better personal economic situation, it also brings with it, big life changes. The most obvious changes are associated with separation from their ancestral homes and families, and the need for the establishment of new ones. The central point of this study is the question of what helps to create these new homes and what is involved in this sphere. The fieldwork, which was defined by cohabitation with the families, consisted of observation and analysis to determine the social and material practices through which expatriate families relate to their homes - and how it was narratively reflected. Some major points of observation included the universal need for the families to have with them, objects of a material nature that linked their new home to the original and contemporary home, and a tendency to establish social ties with other expats as a substitution of the family support network. Also observed were the aspects of the adaptation of the family members to their new homes and...
Variability of home ranges and territory sizes in birds
Holubová, Kateřina ; Storch, David (advisor) ; Sedláček, Ondřej (referee)
Territories and home-ranges are the smallest spatial units of species' presence in a landscape and they determine in what ways and on what scales animals perceive and use their environments. Their sufficient sizes encompassing enough resources are critical for survival and reproduction of individuals. Processes and factors affecting territory and home-range sizes therefore belong to fundamental ecological issues. Despite its importance, the knowledge of variation in avian territory and home-range size at large spatial scales is poor. So far it has comprised mainly the findings that the used area is determined by individual's energetic demands, dependent on body size and diet type, and by environmental productivity. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to use data gathered from available literature to describe the variation in territory and home-range size of birds. I was curious what was the nature of territory and home-range size frequency distribution; whether the sizes were species-specific and whether and how these sizes were affected (beside the body mass and diet type) by various environmental characteristics, such as latitude, temperature, precipitation, seasonality, altitude and habitat type. I have found that the territory and home-range size frequency distribution is approximately...
