Gašparová, Dominika ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Hamplová, Dana (referee)
This thesis The Portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992-2012 addresses the way women are depicted in advertising in three selected Slovak magazines, at three points in time; 1992, 2002 and 2012. The work aims to discover in what direction the portrayal of women in magazine advertisements has evolved during this period when advertising occupies more and more space in the media. This work deals with gender issues and focuses mainly on the roles in which women are represented in advertising. Their passivity or activity and sexual objectification are examined through content and semiotic analysis. The dual mode of analysis will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the depiction of women in advertising and compare the different ways women are portrayed in the media depending on the target audience.

Housing Situation of Young People in the Czech Republic Abstract The thesis contributes to a discussion of a social stratification and inequalities in society. The aim of the work is to review a housing situation of Czech households, with the emphasis on the age of the head of household, from several complementary perspectives. Housing conditions of young households are described by the concept of the financial and physical affordability of housing on the basis of objective data about their income situation and the cost and quality of housing. Therefore, we can identify households that have limited access to adequate housing e.g. because of their social background or current social position in the society. The paper also examines the subjective opinions of respondents on the quality and the financial burden of housing. To achieve these objectives, data from the Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) of the Czech Statistical Office are analyzed for the years 2005-2011. The analysis also contains the regional perspective, which is used to compare the housing affordability for households living in the different areas of the Czech Republic. Also for this reason results of the thesis could be useful as a basis for housing policy makers. Keywords: young households, housing affordability, housing...
Family and Men's Professional Status
Nosková, Soňa ; Hamplová, Dana (advisor) ; Trunda, Jiří (referee)
In this diploma thesis, I will study a relationship between family characteristics and men's professional status in Czechia. As a theoretical background, I will introduce sociology of family and sociology of employment. However, an empirical analysis may be considered a core of this thesis. The basic patterns and relationships are to be uncovered by quantitative analyses. These analyses will be based on individual data from Census 2001. I believe that the basic relationship between family and employment matters is relatively stable and thus this data from 2001 I use shall be sufficient for this purpose. The aforementioned relationship will be studied with correlation and regression analyses both across individual indicators and synthetic variables.

Attitudes towards unmarried mothers and their children in the Czech lands from a historical perspective
Kuprová, Barbora ; Hamplová, Dana (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
The intention of this study is to approximate the attitude to children born out of marriage and their mothers in the years 1750-1849. The nominal excerpts from parish registers were used to find numbers of births and proportion of illegitimate children at the manor of Škvorec, the area located at the eastern border of Prague. The proportion of children born out of marriage is compared with contemporaneous regulations that could influence attitudes and behavior of contemporary society. The study also investigates the social status of born children, their fathers and godfathers. The results show that the position of unmarried mothers and their children has improved in the followed period. The results suggest that many unmarried mothers already lived with their partners in the companienate marriage in that time.
The question of naturalness in the context of Czech massmedia discussion/discourse about childbirth
Veverková, Martina ; Sládek, Jan (advisor) ; Hamplová, Dana (referee)
This paper analyses the Czech mass media discourse about models of childbirth care and focuses on using the term of naturalness. Czech obstetrics care is highly influenced by habitudes and practices that were typical for socialist era, but transforms to the western model. Dissatisfaction with the care was the main reason for rediscovery of homebirth that became a very controversial point in Czech society accompanied by mass media discussion which is the subject of this analysis. The most important findings are that doctors tend to advocate their practices no matter whether they discuss homebirth or caesarean delivery on maternal request (which can be seen as two poles of the scale of naturalness and total medicalization) and in this second case they show themselves as advocates of the naturalness. Czech midwives, opposing the dominant practices, are not able to communicate well enough the positives of natural childbirth and midwifery care, which can be one of reasons why they fail to push through the legalization of homebirth. Keywords Sociology of body, sociology of childbirth, medicalization, homebirth, naturalness
