The myth of Kubata. Representation of a Czech type in the culture of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

The bachelor's thesis will focus on the representation of Jakub Kubata ? a peasant from Zbudov ? in the culture of 19th and the first half of 20th century. This personality, whose real life peripeteia have not yet been precisely documented, became a well-known literary figure in several novels, short stories and dramas. These literary documents will be comprehensively gathered and analyzed in detail in the thesis using the available databases (Caslin, Retrobi, ČEK). The main focus of the thesis will be the mythologising of Kubata as a national type and of the peasant ideal. The contemporary argument about the importance of Kubata, which appeared in the contemporary press in the context of the construction of his monument in the area of Zbudovská Blata in year 1904, will also be reflected
