Electricity market: Analysis and prediction of volatility
Kunc, Vladimír ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Electricity market: Analysis and prediction of volatility Abstract Vladimír Kunc July 30, 2015 The last two decades can be characterized by restructuring of energy industry and the creation of new, competitive energy markets, where accurate forecasts of elec- tricity prices and price volatility are valuable both to consumers and producers. The aim of this work is to analyse several models for prediction of the price volatility of electricity on the Czech Electricity Day-ahead market on price data provided by OTE, a.s. for years 2009-2014. This work compares 144 different models' configura- tions for three distinct classes of models - autoregressive models, GARCH models, and artificial neural network models. This work provides comparison based on five different criteria, each describing the model in different way. Keywords: price prediction, volatility prediction, GARCH, neural networks, LSTM 1
Development of German Alpine Clubs in Czech Lands until 1938
Chaloupská, Pavlína ; Waic, Marek (advisor) ; Štumbauer, Jan (referee) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Mgr. Pavlína Chaloupská, abstrakt disertační práce Abstract: The thesis analyzes activities of the most important German Alpine clubs operating in the Czech Lands and interwar Czechoslovakia since their establishment until 1938. The history of alpine clubs is explained, and the organization of DuÖAV (Deutscher und Österreichischer Alpenverein, German and Austrian Alpine Association) is analysed, on the basis of general and specific introductory information related to the alpinism in the late 19th century. The thesis is divided according to geographical location of the constituent sections. For each section of DuÖAV, the circumstances of its establishment are monitored, the sphere of its activity is defined, the internal organization is described, and the economic functioning is analyzed. The activities of Alpine clubs in Bohemia and Alps are charted in detail, and based on the research it was discovered that the most important activity of the Alpine clubs was the construction of the Alpine huts, owned by German clubs from Bohemia. Among other activities there were organization of guiding and rescue operations, giving lectures, balls and excursions in their locality. Two chapters are devoted to the most important personalities of the German alpinism in the Czech lands: Johann Stüdl and Rudolf Kauschka.
The Maleč farm at the time of F.L. Rieger
Vojáček, Milan ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee) ; Štaif, Jiří (referee)
František Ladislav Rieger was o ne of the most famous Czech politicians of the second half of the 19th century. He was František Palacky's son-in-law and his successor in the leading of the Czech politics. He and his wife Marie Rieger bought the Maleč farm from Franz Xaver Auersperg in 1862. Rieger had already had experience with management of a farm in Suchdol between 1854 and 1857. The Suchdol farm, much smaller than Maleč, did not bring enough profit. Rieger sold the Suchdol farm and his saw mill in Semily and bought the Maleč domain for 300 000 guldens. It was a big investment and Rieger had to mortgage the farm as well as his wife's house in Prague. By the research I wanted to answer the following general questions: 1. How did the farm in Maleč work? 2. How much ofhis time and effort did F. L. Rieger invest in the management? 3. How much money did he need for his representative life of an important Czech politician? 4. Where and how did he get his money? As far as the theme "Farms in the second half of 19th century" is concerned, analytic studies are very rare in the Czech historiography. Most studies about family farms do not go beyond the middle of the 19th century. The available literature is more general in its focus- about the agriculture, industry, demography, Rieger and his family, or political...

Charles University in Prague University Roma Tre Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biology Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: Jan Hájek Supervisor: PharmDr. Iva Boušová, Ph.D. Prof. Sandra Incerpi, Prof. Jens Z. Pedersen Title of diploma thesis: Biological activity of antioxidant compounds in monocytes THP-1 Elaboration of this work is based on the experiments carried out in the Laboratory of Physiology at University Roma Tre in Rome, under the supervision of Prof. Sandra Incerpi. The team of this laboratory studies the antioxidants of different structures and evaluates their ability to prevent the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). These reactive species are essential for many physiological processes, but they can also have deleterious effects and participate in the development of various diseases. In this work, I dealt with a study of antioxidant properties of different polyphenolic compounds (mosloflavone, negletein, 5,6-dihydroxyflavone, baicalein, gallic acid, and compound 1625) in the cell culture of human monocytes THP-1 and also in the in vitro test. Three different methods were used: intracellular ROS determination (dichlorofluorescein assay), cytotoxicity assay, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). Mosloflavone showed scavenging...
Cooperative as one of the possible tools of the economic concept of Steady-State
Dekastello, Petr ; Hájek, Jan (advisor) ; Vejchodská, Eliška (referee)
The thesis analyzes the theory of Steady-State Economy based on a research of literature as well as principles and starting points for its application in practice. The central question revolves around the viability of the theory. First, however, the thesis focuses on the context, i.e. the background and needs for the emergence of this theory. Thus, the research begins at a time of industrial revolution and the rise of modern economies. In the course of the research, the analysis also points out the phenomenon of cooperatives, which arise in the early days of industrialization, as examined at the start of the work. Later, after a comprehensive introduction of the steady-state economy theory, the thesis returns to cooperatives, as during the research certain parallels in both of the phenomena emerge. Consequently, the conclusion recapitulates and examines whether steady state economy has been proven to be viable, what could support its functioning and whether one of the answers might be cooperatives - considered they have been shown to realize certain assumptions of this economic theory in practice. After a review of criticism of both of the phenomena, a final evaluation and decision may be reached, i.e. the research questions may be answered.

Tax competition: strategic tax rate lowering and expected impact of US 2017 reform on other countries
Hamráková, Júlia ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with an international corporate income tax competition with focus on corporate income tax rate spillovers from the past tax cuts in the USA. The main research question we seek the answer to is: "Do countries follow the USA in the corporate income tax rate setting?" Empirical models were evalu- ated using GMM model for the panel data. Our results confirm the existence of the tax rate spillovers, however, do not prove solid leadership of the USA in the tax rate setting. We found that countries which are geographically closer to the USA and OECD jurisdictions are more likely to follow the USA in the tax rate policy changes. Our research is unique extension to the previous literature dealing with this topic as it uses not only the weighted world corporate income tax rate in the model, but also the corporate income tax rate of the USA and therefore allows us to see the effect of the past tax cuts in the USA for other countries. The results of our work can serve as a lead for examining the impact of the US tax rate cut in 2017. Analysis of Determinants of Carsharing
Špiroch, Jakub ; Chytilová, Julie (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
Shared economy is a phenomenon becoming more prevalent in our society. The study explores the case of business-to-consumer (B2C) carsharing. Using a unique cross-sectional data set, which is compiled by aggregating several city- specific demographic and geographic factors, we construct several models which should be explanatory on the characteristics of cities, where car sharing is ac- tive and successful. Firstly, a logistic regression is employed to estimate the impact of predefined factors on the presence of B2C car sharing in a city. We find out that there is significantly positive relationship between the presence of prestigious university and active shared mobility platform. Furthermore, we introduce the OLS regression with log-level functional form to estimate, what determinants affect the quantity of cars in cities. Additionally, we provide explanation on demographic and geographical variables, which have the most defining impact on the prosperity of car-sharing. In conclusion, several sugges- tions on future research and studies based on carsharing success are presented.
