Warrior graves diet analysis based upon stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen.
Kertés, Samuel ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Bujna, Jozef (referee)
In my bachelor's thesis I will focus on issues related to the impact of diet quality on the investigation of population structure in the archaeological past. I will mainly focus on the Early Iron Age period. I will work with the results of stable isotope analyses of carbon and nitrogen from bone collagen. On the basis of their relative proportions I will try to trace the diet of prehistoric communities. The main aim will be to trace and then confirm or refute a certain trend in the higher intake of animal protein in the diet of the so-called "warrior graves". I will then compare these individuals within a closed community with people classified by grave equipment into other social groups. I will also seek to identify trends in these dietary patterns in particular communities relative to the consumption of millet in continental Europe. Keywords: diet; warriors; stable isotopes; social structure; La Tène period
Bronze swords in the Early Iron Age in Bohemia
Říha, Karel ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Golec Mírová, Zuzana (referee)
The work aims to discuss the origin and significance of bronze swords from the Early Iron Age. In the Czech lands, these artifacts are associated exclusively with graves. Based on the study of foreign literature, a theoretical excursion is presented in terms of genesis, context and findings and concept of transition horizon Ha C1a. The following is a study based on the application of archaeometric methods on a borrowed file. Based on the results of radiographic, traceological, metallographic and isotope analysis, including chemical composition, it is possible to define practically their structural quality, potential use and origin of the material. The result is a pilot study of Ha C bronze swords, which - ideally - will be analytically extended to the context of Central Europe, not only in the West Hallstatt area, but also in the Lusatian urnfields. Keywords bronze swords - Hallstatt period - genesis - classification - radiography - use-wear analysis - metallography - chemical composition - isotopes
Revision of evidences of long-distance contacs in Bohemia and Moravia during the Early Iron Age
Babušková, Štěpánka ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Půlpán, Marek (referee)
: The theses deals with long-distance contacts in Bylany culture in the Early Iron Age (Ha C1-Ha D1). The research is based on detailed typological and chronological analysis of exogenous material artefacts and their comparation with other analogical european finds. The invisible evidence of long-distance contacts (technology, art, burial practices, life style) is also included.
Evaluation of the Ha/LT funeral rites at Tišice (district Mělník)
Bílková, Jana ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Půlpán, Marek (referee)
Presented bachelor's thesis deals with analysis and evaluation of the early Iron Age archaeological finds, which were acquired during the archaeological rescue excavations of the Tišice site in 2003 and 2005. The aim is especially to describe the character of funeral rite and evaluation of artefacts and chronology of the burials. The continuity of burial activities at Tišice is also addressed, given it is a polycultural site.
Sword like reflection of la téne warrior. The chronologie of warriors graves in Radovesice.
Hošková, Kateřina ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Mangel, Tomáš (referee)
Presented Bachelor diploma work is devoted to revision and new evaluation of two latenien burials in extinct village Radovesice near Bílina in North-west Bohemia, which was investigated during archaeological rescue research of the years 1974-77 and 1981-82. The aim of the work is study aspects of the funeral rite of the warriors in LT B1 - B2 and with the help of X-ray survey submit unpublished findings on the warrior set.
Selected settlement regions of La Tène Period in Bohemia and their potential relationship to the resources of gold
Smola, Adam ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Mangel, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis deals with a possible relationship between the late Iron Age settlement and gold deposits. Its first objective is to determine the probability rate in which of the three selected areas of Bohemia ( áslavsko, Jílovsko and P íbramsko) the gold mining could take place in La Tène period and where is an increased probability of obtaining direct evidence of this mining. The second objective is to create a model of gold mining and gold processing in La Tène period and to propose a framework for the future research that would confirm or deny such model. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part (chapters 1 - 4) contains general introduction to the topic of gold in La Tène period in Bohemia region, a summary of current knowledge about the possible gold mining and a comparison of possibilities and limits to deepen this knowledge. Emphasis is put on methods and procedures, including the application of very promising chemical-physical analysis. The second part of the thesis (chapter 5) focuses on detailed analysis of gold deposits and settlements in La Tène period in selected regions of áslavsko, Jílovsko and P íbramsko, where is the La Tène gold mining expected. In the subchapters on geology, primary and secondary gold deposits, including geochemical anomalies and historical mining relicts...
The occupation of Louny area in the La Tene period (evaluation and grounds for new research)
Grolmusová, Adéla ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Košnar, Lubomír (referee)
The thesis focuses on reviewing the excavations from Počedělice between the years 1988-1989, during which two settlement objects from the break of the La Tene period and the Early Roman period (LT D2b/ R A) were identified. Tangible and intangible finds were further analysed and evaluated, such as ground sunken homes, ceramic fragments, daubings, osteological package, a furnace and an iron object. The second part of the thesis focuses on structure of the settlements and the burials in the eastern part of Louny area. It also outlines the current state of research and the basis for the future research. The second part also presents a created catalogue of sites dated in the break of the La Tene period and the Early Roman period in the discussed region.
Late Hallstatt iron metalurgy; the example the the iron workshop at Tuchoměřice
Lett, Jaroslav ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Salač, Vladimír (referee)
This work is about metallurgy and blacksmithing in the period of late Hallstatt and early La Tène in Central Europe. The first part presents all known evidence of metallurgical and blacksmithing in the period under review. Examples are then presented by the most important Central European localities, where this activity has been clearly proved. In work is presented a set of blacksmith tools dated to the late Hallstatt from the hall of the Býčí skála cave, mining and smelting of iron ore from the same period in Čečejovice (SK), including a nearby smithy in the hall of the Fajka cave in Jasov (SK). This is followed by a small housing estate in Čakov with proven smelting of iron ores in the late Hallstatt based on the occurrence of metallurgical slag in the settlement waste layer without younger intrusions. Metallurgical activity on a larger scale with a period of greatest activity in the early La Tène and domed furnaces are presented on the example of the Neuenbürg (DE) site. Another presented locality is a settlement with proven metallurgical and blacksmithing activity with the peak of activity in the late Hallstatt with pit furnaces and pit charcoal kilns in Waschenberg (AT). This list is completed by a brief overview of findings related to metal processing in the Tuchoměřice area, as the research...
Research potential of copper deposits in the prehistory of Bohemia
Mladý, Tomáš ; Frank Danielisová, Alžběta (advisor) ; Bursák, Daniel (referee)
(in English) The aim of this thesis is to present potential ways of studying regions with copper deposits in Bohemia that could indicate the possibility of prehistoric mining and smelting of copper in this area. This thesis describes methods of studying areas and artefacts in Bohemia and in the world. In a few regions which are selected from the database of copper occurrences according to J. Kratochvíl, the convenient methods for potential surveying and researching the area are presented afterwards. Apart from geographic location and history of regions, historical sources are used for distinguishing prehistoric and recent mining workings. Moreover, these sources help to determine the former extend of copper deposits.
