The Role of New Media in Museum Presentation

Museums are traditional and collection based cultural institutions. From the very beginning of the 20th century the established approaches in museums have been continuously challenged by social and technological changes. New topics including modernization are newly in the centre of interest. The dissertation examines use of technologies and new media ideas as the starting point of complex museum modernization while keeping the use appropriate and meaningful for museum content. There are three main areas where new media are used in museums: 1. museum presentation, 2. visitor engagement, 3. online communication and PR. The main method used to examine the current state of using new media in Czech museums was quantitative research with surveys. With regard to the dynamic development in the area of the research surveys were conducted longitudinally in 2015 and in 2020. This approach helped to capture more complex reality, including changes and trends in time. Respondents are museum employees from 358 institutions. The use of new media for museum displays increased significantly, while less than a half of the museums launched an online exhibition project. Methodology for supplementing interior exhibitions with technologies for digital objects visualization and content sharing

The methodology is intended for memory institutions to help them to better understand how modern technologies for digital (especially 3D) objects presentation can be effectively used in exhibitions or expositions. In order to achieve desired presentation functions and formulate specific technical requirements, key parameters of relevant technical components are explained. The main part of the document describes steps important for design, building and running interior expositions or exhibitions. Here a standard process is recapitulated and new activities needed for effective incorporation of multimedia elements are introduced. A particular attention is paid also to the supplier selection process with respect to legal requirements and correct order of steps.

Recommendations for formats of 3D objects and corresponding metadata for the purpose of their sharing, presentation and preservation

The methodology presents recommendations for processing, management, sharing and export of 3D digital objects together with corresponding metadata structures suited for presentation and presentation of information objects resulting from digitization processes. These recommendations reflect needs of memory institutions and aggregated databases of cultural content and take into account the relevant legislation. The suitability of existing data formats of 3D models and related metadata is discussed especially from the perspective of their sustainability. The need for development of a suitable strategy of care for digital cultural heritage is discussed together with potential impacts of corresponding decisions and compromises taken. An attention is paid also to conditions for long term preservation of cultural artifacts in digital form.

Foraminifera of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

The thesis deals in the compilation part with systematic classification, biology, morphology of the test, ecology and palaeoecology of the Foraminifera. Next research focuses on the history of Cretaceous Foraminifera in our area and the geology of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, focusing on Úpohlavy site in the northwestern part of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Three samples from Úpohlavy section were preliminary micropaleontologically analysed. Plankton / bentos ratio was counted. Oyster bioherms in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

Frustration from shape and size variability of oyster's species Rhynchostreon suborbiculatum (Lamarck) is long known phenomenon. In current state of his systematic it is not possible to consider it fully satisfying. Is it is shown in study of genus Gryphaea by Jones and Gould (1999), that application of modern analytical methods, undoubtly lightens long-darkned places of evolution process. Idea of Videt and Neraudeau (2003), that shape variability of Rhynchostreon suborbiculatum (Lamarck) probably also mirrors heterochronic processes, introduces inspirative and good foundation for future research in this field. Occurence of this oyster is proved from huge range of sites in Bohemian Cretaceous Basin area. It is combination of rich occurance, unique preservation and variability of lithological settings, which gives us unique starting point for next step to solve significant problem. Based on population analyses consisting of biometrical studies supported by oxygen isotope analyses, in future, it will be possible to reach sufficient conclusions of this issue, and progress in our knowledge.

Nautiloidea of Upper Cretaceous epicontinental seas in Europe

The post-Triassic Nautiloidea are not as popular theme within fossils cephalopods research as for example ammonites. They are not very abundant in the fossil records except some rare localities and areas, their morphology is quite conservative and due to the usually poor preservation, their determination and assigning to the species even to genera level is often complicated. Exceptional are taxa with very specific morphology and short stratigraphic and endemic occurrence, which are even suitable for biostratigraphic interpretations. Problematic is also the often poor taxonomical representation of the type material and revision of many taxa is needed. Still nautilids are often represented by reasonable amount in the paleontological collections of natural history museums due to the long history of fossils collecting. Also the scientific literature has been dedicating at least some space to this group since 19 century. The aim of this study is to create an overview about the post- Triassic, especially Upper Cretaceous nautiolidea in the European region of epicontinental seas and prepare a good basement for extensive study of this group. The Jurassic belemnites of northern Bohemia - stratigraphy, palaeobiogeography and possible isotope record

4 Abstract The work is based on a revision of collection from several scientific institutions from the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Saxony (National Museum in Prague, Chlupáč Museum of Earth History, Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden, etc.). The collection is based on samples published by Oskar Lenz and George Bruder from the second half of the 19th century. Both authors also processed the findings of other researchers (e.g. Cotta, Weisse). The belemnite rostra were systematically divided into four families, five genera and seven identifiable genera. One rostrum has not exactly been determined. The age of the samples was established to be the Middle and Upper Jurassic (Bajocian- Kimmeridgian). The length of the expected sedimentation in this area has been prolonged to the past (deeper to the Middle Jurassic), mainly due to the finding of the species Megateuthis gigantea Schlotheim, 1820. Earlier research (especially in the 20th century) assumed the extent of preserved carbonate rocks only in the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian age, with a not much fossiliferous Callovian Brtníky Formation.
