The Rome People in Broumov

In this Bachelor's thesis, I tried to describe the history of the Roma people, briefly: where do they come from, what made them to exile from their homeland, and when did they settle in Europe and in Bohemia. Particularly, I wanted to think about drastic ordinance of the Roma people's banishment from the country and their violent assimilation in the era of Marie Terezie's reign, the prejudices persisting in our subconsciousness up to the present day. Last but not least, I attended to the era of communism, finding there possible reasons of the problems accompanied after the year 1989. My goal was to depict the situation of the Roma people in Broumov where I focused on several branches: unemployment and education, being closely connected with each other. First, I am concerned with the particular data from Broumov, the characteristics of the city in terms of the inhabitants' structure and job possibilities. Concerning the question of unemployment, the progress is described and possible causes are being found, which is also connected with the branch of criminality. Furthermore, the living possibilities of the Roma people are discussed.
