Sex, drugs, rock'n'roll: Reflection of gender in particular Prague rock bands

This thesis deals with aspects and force of gender order in Prague rock bands. It is focused on presence of gender aspects which are viewed from a gender point of view. Main aim of my research is to cover force of gender order in specificic musicial field which has connotation primarly with men. Also to obtain ethnographic description of this subculture. I'm going to fulfill the aim of my research by research in field, by interviews with informators and content lyrics analysis. This thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. Theoretical part contains particular definitions and theoretical approaches. Empirical describes a strategy of my research, whole procedure and results of the research. Like mother, like daughter? Gender role reproduction of one and a half generation of female Armenian migrants in Czech republic

Diploma thesis is focused on a social status of one and a half generation of female Armenian migrants in Czech republic. It follows processes of a negotiation of their own social position and a creation of their own self-image on basis of gender role reproduction analysis. There are two main influential factors in context with their life in the target country. First one is their family and an Armenian community who is trying to pass Armenian traditions and values to them. The other one is the major society around them. Thesis reveals how individual informants in the bicultural situation perceive traditional gender roles and the possibility of their development or change. Girl's strategies prove to what degree they are following social patterns based on their origins in comparison with the life in the target country. Despite the fact that they know and understand social patterns preserved in Czech society they are accepting and by their behaviour even proving a gender role identification in the context of their family and Armenian community. This identification coresponds with an identification of the common Armenian family because it's girl's key reference group determining all relationships. Though mothers versus nannies: media presentation of institution of domestic workers in Czech Republic

Absract This master thesis deals with an analysis of media discourse of domestic workers in the Czech Republic. The work was based on discourse analysis of media articles generated by Anopress, which is a professional supplier of media monitoring. Through analyzing the way how media portrays institution of domestic workers, the paper tries to point out the media discourse that produces an image of domestic workers as an attractive products and organization of domestic work as a mediator for balancing public and private lives of women. Through concepts of feminist research I am going to try to prove that the media discourse is based on essentialist and discriminatory practices that have a major impact on shaping the image of institution of domestic workers and actors who are connected with this institution. Since this is a media production of information's construction thus it has a significant influence on the conceptualization of institutions of domestic workers in public sphere. Gender on the playground

Gender in the playground: Ethnographic research This hesis analyses the (re)production of gender stereotypes in the playground. The theoretical framework of the analysis is based on the classical approaches (Renzetti and Curran 2005 Jarkovská 2004) , gender socialization (Giddens 1999, Gilligan 2001 and Bem 2003) and is also inspired by current research on playgrounds (Paetcher, Clark 2003 Millan 2012). The research was conducted at a playground located in Beroun throughout years 2013 and 2014 as a non-participating observation of the visitors of the playground. The work presents a comprehensive view of gender and gender stereotypes reproduced at the playground in two areas: 1) the area of gender stereotypes in the playground reproduced by children and 2) the area of gender stereotypes which adult accompaniment brings to the field. Analysis shows the way in which these categories are (re)constructed and played out in everyday life and how they affect the subculture of the playground. The analysis is mainly based on the surprising finding that the children at the playground were accompanied by almost the same number of men as women. Backpack, hiking boots and mascara: Analysis of women independent travelling from the perspective of anthropology of tourism

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the gender aspects of women travelling and experience of women travellers, who set out to the non-Europe destinations on their own. The thesis is based on in-depth interviews with women travellers and analyze how these journeys are important to them. The thesis tries to point out that women's solo travelling directly effects their biography as well as career and status of these female travellers. Women independent travelling is introduced as the dynamic process, by means of which they acquire or verify the gender power and abilities, applicable to their personal life and work. Using the concepts of feminist theories implemented on women's travelling, I try to show that this type of travelling is affected by history and prefers male travelling, which displaces the individual women's travelling on the edge of the social and scientific interest. This thesis is based on the anthropology of tourism, particularly on the study of backpacking and set the experience of the woman traveller in the frame of the rites of passage. Moreover the thesis contains the analysis of the public and media discourse, focused on the real case of two young women kidnapped in Pakistan. "I feel like an alien" - migration of Filipino women and mixed marriages

This thesis reacts to the Philippine migration trend, supported by Philippine government for economic reasons, mostly regarding to work opportunities of migrants abroad. Author concentrates on primarily non-work related migration but the partnership related one, with focus on Filipino women, who migrate to Czech republic with their husbands. The work is based on 5 in-depth interviews with female Filipino migrants, where choice strategies and important moments in constructed narrative images of reality were identified. In the process of migration the gender power change was identified as non-fluid. Gender is being perceived as anchored in the institutions and social relations that are not space-dependant, in this case it manifests in the family. Family relations are lasting across spatial distance and so they constitute the feeling of migrants that they have to support their family. There is also the difference between strategies of women who could migrate into developed country sooner and therefore broaden their gender power and those for whom Czech Republic is the first country, where they migrated and became financially and also partly socially dependent on their husband.
