Diatoms as bioindicators for tracking freshwater salinization.
Severa, František ; Kopalová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Dobiáš, Jakub (referee)
The focus of this thesis is on the relationship of diatom (Bacilariophyta) communities to conductivity, and the utilization of this relationship for the monitoring of freshwater salinization. Salinization of freshwaters as a consequence of anthropogenic influences is emerging as a threat to many freshwater habitats due to increasing anthropogenic sources of salts (like use of de-icing salts on roads), wastewaters, and fertilizers. The problem is intensifying because salts are further concentrated through increased evaporation as a consequence to climatic changes. Salinization of ecosystems has a direct impact on the physiological processes of present organisms, and because the ability to adapt to this stress differs between organisms, results in the reorganization of communities. In this way, salinization can indirectly threaten ecosystem services that benefit mankind. Furthermore, salinization is a direct threat in terms of its influence on drinking water and crop irrigation. These forces also act on diatoms, which have long been used as bioindicators, and exhibit strong community links with conductivity. Like for other organisms, this tight relationship is caused by differences in adaptation mechanisms between species, which includes osmolytes, extracellular polymeric substances and adaptation of...
Factors affecting dragonfly species composition in newly created pools and assessment of invertebrate predation on pools zooplankton
Dobiáš, Jakub ; Černý, Martin (advisor) ; Harabiš, Filip (referee)
To identify and quantify the influence of physico-chemical, biotic and geographic factors on the population of dragonflies (Odonata) is an essential tool for research of their ecology. The aim of this study was to 1) assess how these factors influence species richness, diversity and spatial distribution of dragonflies in 42 newly constructed or renewed pools located in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area, which is characterized by two valleys of Liběchovka and Pšovka creeks, low human impact, and a great diversity of small water bodies and 2) use laboratory experiments in order to estimate the relationship between large predatory invertebrates of these pools (Aeshna cyanea, Coenagrion puella, Chaoborus crystallinus and Notonecta glauca) and their common prey (Daphnia curvirostris) in an artificial environment with or without aquatic macrophytes. The pools were monitored and sampled between years 2005 and 2006. In total, 23 dragonflies species were found inhabiting these lentic habitats, comprising 11 species belonging to the suborder Zygoptera and 12 species belonging to the suborder Anisoptera, including a rare species Sympetrum depressiusculum (larvae). Most variability in the dragonfly species richness was explained by the size of the water surface area, followed by the location of the pools (inside...
Evaluation of Patients Satisfaction in the Hospital for Substance-Related disorders in Nechanice for the Purposes of Transformation as a Part of the Reform of Psychiatry
Dobiáš, Jakub ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Petruželka, Benjamin (referee)
Introduction Nechanice's Addictive Disease Treatment Center enters the process of transformation as part of the psychiatric reform. In contrast to other psychiatric hospitals, reform will not lead to a reduction in beds in this facility, but in line with the Deinstitutionalization project, the hospital aims to transform the treatment towards patients. Formulation of aims, methodology Evaluation of patient satisfaction has been carried out in connection with the transformation objectives. The aim of the research was to gain information related to the patient's view of the hospital and the provided medical care. The data will be available to the transformation team as a guideline for optimizing the transformation process. The research was carried out in qualitative form, the data collection was carried out by the method of semi-structured interview. The research group consisted of six patients with different lengths of stay and type of treatment. Three respondents were men and three women. Principal results Patients appreciate the facilities of the hospital for their properties - spaciousness and luminosity. As sufficient, they consider the range of equipment, including the rooms, but criticize the poor technical condition of windows, equipment for leisure activities and obsolescence of inventory in...
