Kamil Uhlíř and his contribution to the Czech Reception of South American Literature

The subject of this diploma thesis is Kamil Uhlíř (1923-1983), a translator and one of the founders of Czech Hispanic Studies, who focused professionally mainly on the literature of the Lapland region (Argentina, Uruguay, etc.). The next chapter deals with Kamil Uhlíř's translation and literary areas of interest. The central part of the thesis is dedicated to the translation analysis of the two selected translations by Uhlíř. The first is the short story Alef by Borges in comparison with the original but also taking into account the modifications in the next Czech edition. The subsequent text is The Pursuer by Cortázar, which is compared with Uhlíř's translation and Jan Machej's new translation.

This thesis consists of two parts. The first, practical part is a translation of the first eight chapters of the book Nación Vacuna by the contemporary Argentinian writer Fernanda García Lao (2020). The second part of the thesis offers background information about the author, stylistic classification of the book and its role in both, the source and target cultural context. Another important part of this work is the translation analysis of the original, the description of the origin of the translation method, as well as the identification of the problems associated with the translation along with their solutions. Last but not least, the thesis should also offer the reader a brief glimpse into the process of the birth of translated literature. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to translate a chapter from the book of lectures Clases de literatura: Berkeley, 1980. The author of the lectures is the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. This bachelor thesis consists of two parts - the translation of the first chapter Los caminos de un escritor and the translation annotation. The translation annotation contains information about the fictional translation assignment, translation analysis of the original text, and subsequently selected translation issues and their solutions.

This bachelor thesis consists of two parts: practical and theoretical. The practical part consists of a translation of the scholarly essay Si los hombres fueran buenos... antropología del antipoema, which was published in the Chilean journal Revista Chilena de Literatura in 2015. The text deals with the analysis of Parra's work and the semantics between poetry and antipoetry. In addition, the practical part consists of a translation of the transcription of Nicanor Parra's interviews with René de Costa and his students, published in a memorial volume of the Chilean journal The Clinic in 2018, a few days after Parra's death. The translation was done from Spanish to English. The theoretical part is a translation commentary that consists of an analysis of the source text, a description of the translation method and a typology of translation problems and their solutions. The Czech Fiction in the Spanish Books Market

The thesis aimes is to describe the panorama of contemporary translation from Czech fiction in Spain based on interviews with prominent translators of the last twenty years. The thesis tries to answer the questions of what the criteria for the selection of translated titles are (are classics or contemporary authors translated more? And why is this the case?), what does the current Spanish book market look like, how does the translation support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic work what are the possibilities of scholarships, how does the cooperation between translators and institutions offering support work. This is an empirical work, the essential part of which consists of interviews conducted with selected translators and representatives of institutions that support translation from Czech literature. The thesis provides a brief introduction to the history of translation from Spanish into Czech and vice versa, charts the change in conditions after 1989 and focuses in particular on new translation currents after 2000. It also discusses publishing practices in Spain, literary prizes and the functioning of literary fairs and agencies. This bachelor thesis contains an annotated translation from the Spanish language. The work consists of two parts: a practical part and a theoretical part. The first part of the bachelor thesis presents a translation of the Spanish guide of Seville together with a selection of the most famous celebrations in Spain. For the translation, I chose tourist brochures published by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Kingdom of Spain. The second part is theoretical, it consists of a translation commentary which is divided into an analysis of the original text, translation method and translation problems.
Annotated translation of selected chapters from the Work El estrés y el arte de amargarnos la vida

This bachelor's thesis is divided into two parts: a practical one and a theoretical one. In the practical a translation of the Spanish original text, the handbook called El estrés y el arte de amargarnos la vida by the collective of authors Miguel Costa, Zulema Aguada and Itizar Cestona is presented. In the theoretical part the Spanish original text and the translations problems are analysed, and the used translation methods and shifts are presented. The handbook contains practical advice and tips on how to deal with stress and is divided into three main chapters. This bachelor thesis deals with the first two of them and the first two subchapters of chapter three and can thus be a starting point for the translation of the entire handbook into Czech, from which the Czech reader can benefit when dealing with crisis stress situations. François Mauriac in Czech translations

The subject of the thesis is the Czech reception of works by French author François Mauriac. Providing a complete overview of prose translations, the thesis analyses the development of Czech critical reflection over the course of a century, focusing on both the epitext and peritext (Genette, 1987) of the editions. The second part of the thesis consists of a translatological analysis of the 1927 novel Thérèse Desqueyroux and two Czech translations, resulting in a verdict regarding the possible publication of a new edition of the translation analysed, i.e. re-edition recommendations, the description of necessary editorial changes, or a proposal for a new "generational" translation. Annotated translation of Leyendas del agua en México (selected chapters)

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to translate selected chapters from the book Leyendas del agua en México by the writer Andrés González Pagés with a preface written by Daniel Murillo Licea. The translation is made from Spanish into Czech. In the first, practical part, of the bachelor's thesis is the translation and in the second, theoretical, part there is a commentary on the translation. The commentary includes a fictitious translation order, general information and analysis of the source text, as well as deals with selected translation problems that occurred during the translation, their solutions and typology of translation shifts.
