Left-wing terrorism: the case of the Red Brigades in Italy and the Red Army Faction in Germany

This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of left-wing terrorism in Italy and West Germany, two Western democracies where terrorism has emerged more than anywhere else in Europe. Terrorist organizations, including the Red Brigades (RB) in Italy and the Red Army Faction (RAF) in West Germany, emerged in an environment of political and social conflict and radicalized protests against the state establishment. These organisations were chosen for this diploma thesis because of their prominent status, their longevity and the influence they have gained in the field of left-wing terrorism. In its comparative analysis, the thesis attempts to simultaneously interweave three different levels of analysis: the socio-political contexts of Italy and West Germany (macro-level), a focus on the two terrorist groups and their organizational dynamics (meso-level), and the ideology and motivations of the terrorists (micro-level). The aim of this thesis is to explore and gain insight into the RB and RAF organisations in terms of ideology and to describe the factors behind the rise and fall of these terrorist organisations.

Contemporary American right-wing extremism using the example of the Proud Boys with a focus on the ideology of violence

This thesis examines contemporary American extremism, using the example of the far-right, all-male organization Proud Boys, whose members refer to themselves as "Western chauvinists." Thesis analyzes the group in terms of its history, organization, and hierarchy. Paying special attention to the group's ideology, the thesis aims to place the group in the larger context of American society and to name the factors that influenced the group's direction in terms of its ideological grounding in violence. In this thesis, I will defend the thesis that violence plays a privileged role that co-creates the ideology of the group as a whole. The thesis is designed to provide an answer to the question "what role does violence play in the Proud Boys?" Through an in-depth qualitative content analysis, this thesis discusses the relationship between violence and the ideology of the Proud Boys and explains how violence contributes a unifying role. In general, this study contributes to an understanding of both the motivations and behaviors of the Proud Boys group and contributes to the larger discourse on extremism in contemporary America.

The role of far-right forces in Ukraine during and after Euromaidan

This bachelor thesis deals with the role of Ukrainian far-right forces during the Euromaidan and in the post-revolutionary period. The thesis is conceived as a case study that relies mainly on qualitative research methods based on academic literature accompanied by non-academic sources. The first chapter includes an introduction to the topic and provides research questions and thesis structure along with methodology and literature review. In the second chapter, the historical and ideological genesis of the Ukrainian far-right will be outlined along with a presentation of current far-right representatives including the most famous ones. In further parts, the activities and role of far-right forces during Euromaidan, their engagement during the war in the Donbas region, and their political and civil activities during the post-revolutionary period. The time frame of this thesis is limited to the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022. At the end of each part, research questions will be answered based on the findings of the respective part. Those answers are then summed up in a conclusion. HIstorical arguments in politics: Interpretation of Slovak History between 1989-1992

This diploma thesis is a case study that is focused on application of the historical arguments in politics. This focus is closely oriented on the analysis of the interpretation concepts of Slovak national history in the period between November 1989 until the end of Czechoslovak federation in 1.1.1993. In the initial chapters, I primarily focus on the introduction into the issue of nationalism and national history. In the next chapter, I create a basic cleavage for Slovak national history and from that the derived typology for the concepts of the interpretation of national history. In the last chapter, I analyze the interpretation and its application by specific political actors in the above-mentioned period, which I try to add into the typology that was created in the previous chapter.

Czech modern conservatism in the light of the SPOLU (Together) coalition

This diploma thesis examines contemporary Czech conservatism in the context of the SPOLU coalition, which currently consists of three political parties (ODS, TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL). The main goal of the work is to analyze different approaches to conservatism within the coalition. The thesis consists of a theoretical and analytical part, focused on the development of conservatism as an ideology and individual party families, as well as on the current political situation in Europe and the conservative faction of the EU. This work first deals with the concept of conservatism, its origin, and the definition of the concept. The analytical part of the work focuses on the analysis of the conservatism of the parties of the SPOLU coalition, including their attitude to traditional family values, national identity and culture, social and economic policy and other aspects that are fundamental to conservatism. Subsequently, the work deals with the ideological position of individual political parties and then performs their analysis.
