Seepage path modelling

One of the most dangerous processes that can occur on water retaining structures is deformation due to seepage. During these processes, a rearrangement of individual grains within the material happens and, in some cases, grains may be carried out of the material entirely. The dangerousness of such processes is given due to difficulty of their detection. A special case of deformations due to seepage is a backward erosion piping that occurs in the foundation of the structure (dams, weirs and such). During the process, a material is flushed out of the foundation due to forces induced by groundwater flow which leads to formation of the seepage pipe. The result of pipe progress may be a complete connection of spaces upstream and downstream the structure. Along with the pipe’s backward progression, its widening and increase in depth may be observed. Conditions of initialisation of backward erosion piping have been a topic for research since the beginning of 20th century. However, the data from experiments or even from direct observations on water retaining structures were focused mainly on general conditions and it did not pay enough attention to local conditions within the pipe nor on its tip where erosion occurs. Also, the speed of the whole process and the rate of backward erosion were not researched either. The pipe cross-sectional changes were researched only for materials with high contains of clay. The reason for using only clayey materials was given by ease of sample preparation. The goal of this work was to describe a process of the backward erosion piping that occurs in structure foundation. For this goal, a new device was designed, tested, and used for experimenting on picked uniform sands. After evaluation of obtained results, a new formula for calculation of backward erosion rate was derived. Based on the knowledge on hydraulic conditions in the sample and the pipe, a numeric model of the pipe progression was proposed.
The use of multiple-criteria decision-making analysis when choosing a variant of the Skalička dam.

The synthesis of the results of the multi-criteria evaluation indicates a lateral multi-purpose reservoir as the most suitable option for flood protection on the Bečva River in the Skalička profile.
The Acitivity of Climbing Units within the Firefighters Rescue squad of Hradec Králové region
Brouček, Miloslav ; Fiala, Miloš (advisor) ; Vilášek, Josef (referee)
Title: The Acitivity of Climbing Units within the Firefighters Rescue squad of Hradec Králové region Objective: The main objective of this thesis is the description of the intervention and training activities of the Fire Brigade of the Hradec Králové region, concretely climbing groups, inprevious two years. Another aim is to compare their undertaken training activities with the regulatory requirements and demands on members of climbing groups. Methods: Preparation of research based on available materials for the theoretical part. Different statistics prepared by instructors of climbing groups were used for practical part. Last but not least method is the evaluation of interviews with instructors and members of climbing groups. Results: The results which are based on records of individual instructors of climbing groups show that the training activities exceed regulatory prescribed range of training activities. Furthermore the interviews with instructors and members of the climbing group show excellent readiness to deal with emergencies at height and rescue. Keywords: firefighters, climbers Corps, a special group intervention
Verification of the physical fitness of the members of the Fire Brigade of the Czech Republic

Title: Physical fitness verification of the members of FRS Objective: The goal of the thesis was to compare the results of the members of FRS CR in Cooper test with the results of physical fitness verification. Partial goal was to separate the members of HZS ČR into two groups according to the type of verification they choose - running or swimming and to compare these groups with the norm based on the Cooper test. Methods: In the thesis there were used data of the physical tests, which are verifying the physical fitness of the members of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and the statistics of rescue activities. Next the members of FRS CR were subjected to a Cooper test and the data were then standardised and evaluated. Results: Based on the analysis two hypothesis were verified. First hypothesis was confirmed, second declined (disproved). All tested members in the Cooper test achieved physical fitness above the population standard. Better results in the Cooper tests achieved the group, which chose for physical testing. Keywords: training, competence, firefighter, condition, testing
