Kříž, Václav ; Vodrážková, Lenka (advisor) ; Bok, Václav (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis deals with the textological analysis of five selected documents written in German and published by the office of the Eggenbergs in Český Krumlov between 1652-1695. In addition to that, it also attempts to add some new information about the local conditions in the Šumava town Vimperk and its near surroundings during the era of the administration of the Eggenberg family in the second half of 17th century. The structure of the thesis is presented by its two main parts, the historical one and the linguistic one. The first part of the thesis describes the Styrian dynasty of the Eggenbergs itself and its princely branch, acting from 1622 even in the area of the province of South Bohemia. At the same time, the exhibitors of the studied documents themselves, Anna Maria (1609-1680) and her son Johann Christian of Eggenberg (1641-1710), are introduced in detail. Subsequently, the situation in the town of Vimperk and in its surroundings between 1630 and 1719 is described and the activities and the production of offices during that period are also presented. The second part of the thesis focuses on the textological analysis of the external as well as of the internal characteristics of the chosen documents. On the basis of this textological analysis, the thesis tries to contribute to the...

Early New High German Documents of Loket until the Period of he Reign of the Habsburgs in the Czech Lands (1526). A History-Linguistic Study.
Koláříková, Marie ; Vodrážková, Lenka (advisor) ; Bok, Václav (referee)
(in English) Present dissertation deals with historical-linguistic analysis of the eighteen German written documents in interval of the years 1364 - 1517, that are divided into two six royal and twelve municipal documents, whose contents is connected with the town Loket. The first part of the work is specialized in general introduction of the condition of research in this field of history, diplomatic materials of the town, history of the town and the issues of chanceries. The second part is based on documentary materials and it incorporated the analysis of macro and micro- structure. The macro-structure analysis is based on, according to using formulae, model structure of analysed documents, that is consequently used as a starting structure for analysis of micro-structure. Micro-structure analysis provides the way, which the linguistic means are in particular parts formulated. From results of my work is evident, that the structure of the documents keeps the reliable example that is a bit different from initial structure. Structure of the royal documents shows, in contrary to the municipal documents, bigger stability both in arrangement and using formulae as well as their language formulations. Šípek, Richard ; De Barbieri, Laura (advisor) ; Bok, Václav (referee) ; Bernhard, Jan Andrea (referee)
CASTLE LIBRARY OF OTTO JR. OF NOSTITZ IN JAWOR The library of Otto Jr. of Nostitz was founded in the beginning of the 1650's in the Lower Silesian castle Jawor. It consists approximately of 5 000 volumes and its structure as well as its history makes it unique and elevates the Jawor library among the most interesting book collections of early modern Europe. Shortly after death of its founder, the library was bought by Otto's brother Johann Hartwig of Nostitz and moved to the newly built palace in Malá Strana in Prague where it laid the foundations of the new family library of the house of Nostitz. The library is placed in two rooms on the second floor till today. The thesis tries to introduce the personality of the founder of the Jawor library Otto Jr. of Nostitz, his tastes in the book purchase as well as the topical structure of his book collection and its future fates. Notwithstanding, the main point of the doctor thesis is to present the issues of the thorough provenance research of the oldest part of the library. The terminus ante quem for the year of edition of the books relevant for the provenance research marks out the death of Otto Jr. in the year 1665. The most recent and complete catalogue of the Nostitz library in the present use dates back to the 19th century and shows remarkable leaks and...

The Old Czech "Jetřich Berúnský" and the Middle High German "Laurin"
Hon, Jan ; Jiroušková, Lenka (advisor) ; Bok, Václav (referee)
This thesis paper analyzes the old Czech epic poem 'Jetřich Berúnský', with special regards to its Middle High German model 'Laurin'. It summarizes the context of the origin of the German poem and the cultural and historical conditions for its interpretation, and explores the question of how these aspects were recontextualized in the new cultural and language environment. Thus, its main topic is the heroic and courtly epic tradition on the one hand, and the means of fulfilling the expectational horizon of the Czech audience in the 14th century on the other. The latter of these two aspects is, moreover, related to the issue of the Czech poem's estimated time of origin -the paper presents new evidence supporting the theory that the epics might have been originally written at the beginning of the 14th century, i.e. not in its second half as it is so far generally accepted. This evidence is partly based on additions to its older linguistic analysis, partly on a textological analysis comparing the only known version of the Czech text with the complicated genesis of the German epics; and, above all, on a motivical and narrative comparison with 'Dalimil's Chronicle'. At the end the paper concludes issues for the further research of the 14th century Bohemian literature.
Women figures in "Kudrun" and in the "Nibelungenlied"
Špilerová, Jana ; Werner, Williams (advisor) ; Bok, Václav (referee)
In my thesis I analyze the highborn women figures in the epos Kudrun and the Nibelungenlied written in the 13th century. On the basis of their behavior, talk and the narrator's comments, I analyze in detail their personality traits which were very unusual for the medieval audience. Last but not least, I focus on the ability of the women to manipulate and influence the figures in their vicinity. I also focus on the described contemporary environment in which mainly men are featured and women are very much influenced by them. Some characteristic women features in this epos are compared to the women in the eposes Tristan and Isolde, Iwein and Erec. Last but not least I deal with the description of the feudal structures and the influence of the courtly epic poetry on both mentioned eposes. My aim was to find out whether the women of this epos are passive trophies of men, objects of exchange, kind-hearted conciliators, sly fighters, independent empresses, or even martyrs. How do women perform in marriage policy, in courtly ceremonies, or even in extreme and dangerous situations? I persistently compare all the women figures with the highborn men from royal or aristocratic houses who stand by them. Ultimately, I try to answer the following questions: 1) Is it possible to talk about Kudrun as about a novel written...
