Land Use changes under the influence of the process of societal integration
Mareš, Petr ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Kolejka, Jaromír (referee) ; Lipský, Zdeněk (referee)
Mgr. Petr Mareš Land Use Changes Under the Influence of the Process of Societal Integration ABSTRACT The PhD. thesis discusses impacts of a long term process of socio-economic integration on the changing Land Use structure in the Czech Republic and Slovenia and puts forward a hypothesis that "together with the integration of socio-economic relations into hierarchically higher structures, sub-areas tend to be more specialized within every such structure". For the Czech Republic, the main data source used was the LUCC Czechia Database comprising information on 7 Land Use categories in 8 903 CTUs (Comparable Territorial Units, derived from cadastres) in four time horizons 1845-1948-1990-2000 (at the national level) and detailed analyses of maps of four selected CTUs in 1845-2005 (at the local level). For Slovenia we tested our hypothesis using the trial version of the LUCC Slovenia database where data for four Land Use categories had been completed for 2 403 CTUs in 1825-1900- 1961-2002. In order to understand the specialization processes the following indicators were used: the coefficient of variation; the frequency of CTUs in classes of percentage share of selected land use categories and the development of selected different land use categories in diverse areas at the national level (database); then the map...
Instruments for the Development of Rural Municipalities
Perlín, Radim ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Anděl, Jiří (referee) ; Vaishar, Antonín (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Science Department of Social Geography and Regional Development Radim Perlín Instruments for the Development of Rural Municipalities Summary Prague 2010 Gradual change in the functional utilisation of rural space is characteristic of the second half of the twentieth century. The original agrarian function of rural areas is losing its significance and rural areas and municipalities, along with their residents, are subsequently seeking new roles within society's division of functions. Following increases in rural population during the second half of the nineteenth century, caused by the demographic revolution, a portion of the economically active residents of rural areas emigrated over the next several decades, contributing to the rapid population growth of cities. Decreases in family size represent a consequence of the departure of a portion of rural inhabitants. Korčák studied the initial phases of these processes back in 1929. After World War II and in connection with the necessity to ensure food security and sufficient volume of agricultural production, the Common Agricultural Policy was formulated within the emerging European community as one of the first joint policies. It focuses primarily on ensuring sufficient income for agricultural workers, in the midst of...
Analysis of Space Polarisation and Possibilities of Development of Periphery Areas: Case Study the Trutnov Region
Turek, Karel ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Halás, Marián (referee)
This diploma thesis discusses the analysis of space polarisation in the Trutnov region and consequently it tries to suggest possibilities of development for peripheral areas. The first part is devoted to the theoretical concepts of the spatial polarization and the methodological analysis of this thesis. In the second part, the selected theoretical and methodological concepts are applied to area of the Trutnov region. The analysis of space polarisation in the Trutnov region was realised on the basis of using quantitative methods. Development of the peripheral areas between two time periods (around a year 1991 and present) was evaluated too. The final part of this thesis is aimed to the analysis of the peripheral areas in the Trutnov region and proposition of their possible development strategy.
Energy from Agricultural Land
Šatra, Jan ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Musil, Ladislav (referee)
Thesis is concerned with relation of usable energy and space as it's widely spread source. For this purpose are introduced not only a few indicators suitable to energy management description, but also principles of environmental assessment thinking are expained, as these help to distinguish the really sustainable ways of deriving energy from space. As examples of energy-from-space extraction are introduced photovoltaics, liquid biofuels and fast growing energy plants. After a brief entry to heat supply problematics, focus is remains on a simple case study: quantifying relationship between local heat demand and local potential production of solid biomass from short rotation coppice. This so far rather hypothetic relation is examined at the municipal level, while Central and South Bohemia regions are the target area. Soil characteristics and population census data (2001) about residental habitats are used.
Changes in Land Use According to Selected Physic-geographical Division of Bohemia Territory
Platzký, Tomáš ; Oršulák, Tomáš (referee) ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor)
6 Abstract Landscape as a result of log-term interaction between nature and society reflects both natural and societal processes, because the environment is the consequence of mutual interactions between human and nature. Aside economical, social and political factors, we have to aim on environmetal factors too. The landscape changes are posible to determine mainly from the land use and land cover changes. Land and land use structure are important indices of economic and environmental potential of the given teritory. The diploma thesis engages in the the assessment of long-term changes in teritory of Bohemia devided by selected geographical units (morphographic units, geomorfological units, and catchment area of II. degree) in the period 1845 - 2000. The monitoring of land use changes was executed in periods determined by important historical milestones of Czech history (1845, 1948, 1990 and 2000). The aim of the thesis was to expound specific land use changes within selected geographical regions through statistical indicators. The thesis assesses the land use changes within geographical region in relations to particular environmental and socioeconomic influences (withdrawal of Germans from border regions etc.). Key words: Land use change- drivnig forces - morphographical units - geomorphological units -...
Land Cover Changes in connection with the Iron Curtain using Corine Land Cover Database
Najman, Jiří ; Romportl, Dušan (referee) ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor)
This master's thesis focuses on land use and land cover changes in relation to the Iron Curtain and its fall. The area of concern was delimited with a buffer zone of 15 km from the Iron Curtain (both sides). The space was created according to the administrative structure consistent with the year 1989. Different processes in the economy of the countries involved has had an undoubtedly significant influence on land cover and land use structure and its changes. Agronomic politics in European democratic states was more market oriented and that was mirrored in land use structures. On the other hand, soil in countries under soviet influence was cultivated on infertile grounds, which was untenable after 1990. The fall of the Warsaw Treaty stood for radical changes in the society of states that were directly influenced by the Soviet Union. Based on this fact we can presume more intensive land cover changes on the side of the former East in comparison with the Western countries. This expectation was confirmed using CORINE Land Cover dataset. The former East has undergone changes nearly five times more in comparison with the opposite side of the Iron Curtain boundary between 1990 and 2000. Essential variance was also remarkable amidst individual zones separated by administrative boundaries. The most stable...
International Migration in Sports. Foreign Footballers in the Czech 1st Division.
Matušík, Michal ; Bičík, Ivan (referee) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor)
9 Abstract International Migration. Professional Footballers in the Czech 1st Division Michal Matušík In the present time the extent of the phenomenon of international migration of sports labour has increased significantly. That is why it has become the subject of academic research. However, this phenomenon is accompanying the history of the football, in principal, since 1920s. In the theoretical part, the thesis treats migration in the sports in general. Drawing on existing, somewhat scarce literature, on the subject, it presents typologies of sports migrants. Further, it gives theoretical concepts of international migration applicable to the sphere of sports. The thesis notes also some aspects of international migration from the point of view of the sports law. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the migration of foreign footballers to the Czech Republic. To create a framework for that, a general history of the international migration in football is resumed in brief. In empirical part of the thesis, a survey of the foreign footballers in the Czech 1st Division in the period 1993/1994 - 2006/2007 is presented. The concept of the foreign footballer for this purpose is defined as a foreign national who actually has taken part in the play in the field at least once in the course of the season. The period...
