CSG modeling for polygonal objects
Václavík, Jiří ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
This work deals with an efficient and robust technique of performing Boolean operations on polygonal models. Full robustness is achieved within an internal representation based on planes and BSP (binary space partitioning) trees, in which operations can be carried out exactly in mere fixed precision arithmetic. Necessary conversions from the usual representation to the inner one and back, including their consequences are analyzed in detail. The performance of the method is optimized by a localization scheme in the form of an adaptive octree. The resulting implementation RazeCSG is experimentally compared with implementations used in practice Carve and Maya, which are not fully robust. For large models, RazeCSG shows only twice lower performance in the worst case than Carve, and is at least 130 times faster than Maya.
Spatio-temporal aspects of emerging "edge cities" in Prague metropolitan region
Beneš, Jan ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (advisor) ; Novák, Jakub (referee)
The phenomenon edge city has its roots in U.S. metropolitan areas. Similar urban formations currently also appear in other developed cities. Transformations in post-socialist cities starting in early 90th caused the emergence of new socio-spatial formations in suburban area of Prague metropolitan area. The case study of commercial zone Čestlice-Průhonice shows the newly created cluster of advanced services in Prague suburban area resulting in high concentration of daily population and vehicles. The main aim of this study is to uncover the time dimension of outer-spatial relations of the commercial zone by analyzing the daily rhythm of transportation. The method of direct observation of passing vehicles and its registration numbers is used. Furthermore, it has been proved that the commercial area has a regional significance. In this thesis, new socio-spacial formations in suburban fringe of Prague are ilustrated as an important subject for further geographic research. Keywords: edge city, commercial suburbanization, daily rhythm, transportation

Beneš J.: HEMODYNAMIKA V ČASNÉ FÁZI KRITICKÝCH STAVŮ A PERIOPERAČNÍ MEDICÍNĚ - Využití méně invazivních monitorovacích prostředků k cílené hemodynamické péči ABSTRACT Hemodynamic instability occurs very often in critically ill patients and during the perioperative period. Insufficiency in the preload, contractility and afterload contribute in major part to this phenomenon. Hemodynamic monitoring allows clinicians to recognize and to intervene early the underlying cause. Due to new technologies development in recent years it is possible to provide continuous monitoring of hemodynamic parameters with diminished invasivity. Hemodynamic optimization and goal directed therapy show treatment benefit in some groups of critically ill patients and mainly during the perioperative period. Aim of hemodynamic optimizations is to attain the best obtainable hemodynamic conditions with use of fluid loading and inotropic support. In many studies in recent years goal-directed therapy was associated with morbidity and mortality reduction. According to the results of our clinical research hemodynamic optimization using stroke volume variation and minimally invasive device based on the pressure wave analysis is feasible and show the same results as other works with more invasive devices. Key words Hemodynamic monitoring,...
Carl von Clausewitz and Post-Cold War Conflicts
Beneš, Jan ; Jireš, Jan (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis is dealing with the work of Carl von Clausewitz "Of War". Aim of the thesis is to examine the relevance of Clausewitz's work in modern war. Author of this thesis is analyzing the book "Of War" with regard to context of Clausewitz's life, characteristics of war in Clausewitz's time, nature of conflict in post cold war era, system of international relations after the fall of the eastern bloc and concept of the "New revolution in military affairs". According to the analysis of the book "Of War" is author picking eight propositions, which are characteristic for Clausewitz's thought. These propositions are then empirically applied on three post cold war conflicts - War in Persian Gulf, War in Afghanistan and War in Iraq. From the result of the application is derived the conclusion about the relevance of Clausewitz's work in the post cold war era conflicts. Results of this analysis are set in the context of literature that is dealing with Carl von Clausewitz, his influence on contemporary military affairs and modern war. Key words Clausewitz, war, modern war, New revolution in military affairs, war theory, art of war
Three virtual characters in a quarrel: an interactive model
Babor, Petr ; Brom, Cyril (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
In computer games, with the ambition to tell a story are often cut-scenes, passages of games, where the player does not play, but only follows a part of the narrated story. This fact distract player from playing. These passages should be integrated as much as possible in the game itself. The goal of our work is to design, implement and test a model for creating cut-scenes with dynamic development and limited user interaction possibilities. We restricted the model to a situation where three characters arguing and we implemented it for the Pogamut platform. We use animations and emoticons as means of expression, characters do not speak by natural language. Movement is ensured by the steering rules from the project Steering Library. Dramaturgy and synchronization of scenes is controlled by a stochastic finite state machine. We made an experiment where the test subjects watched the generated cut-scenes and compared them with hand-made to evaluate the work. The results confirmed the assumption that the quality of generated scenes do not reach handwritten ones. However the test subjects still perceived them positively, because of the ability to influence their development. Implemented parts of the model can be used to create games and educational programs with social theme. Theoretical design of the model can be...
Soccer
Beneš, Jan ; Babilon, Robert (referee) ; Lidický, Bernard (advisor)
The purpose of this thesis was to design and implement an association football (soccer) match simulator and to compare the resulting implementation with other programs of similar function. A model after which both out eld players and goalkeepers play in an association football match was designed. It is possible to run the program in an interactive mode, whereby the players of one of the teams are controlled by the user, or to spectate a match of arti cial intelligencies. Included in the simulation are the physics of the football and deflections off the crossbar and the posts.
