The Social Impact of Self-Harm in Adolescents
BOBOČKA, Jakub
The work entitled " Self -harm of young people and it's social impact " was prepared as a final bachelor thesis in the framework of Social Work study programe at the Faculty of Health and Social Studies, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out what social areas of life of young people who are undergoing the self -harm are affected and how. The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical part and practical part. In the theoretical part, with the help of books and articles, I tried to summarize the topic of self -harm. I described disorders that can be diagnosed together with self -harm. I further described risk factors, types of self -harm and also the process of self -harm. At the end of the theoretical part, I discussed areas that can be influenced by self -harm and with which I also deal with in my research. It is a summary framework for a given issue, which is the basis for the practical part. The research was created with 5 respondents I either knew or I was given a contact to them. Among them were two informatnts from Prague and three from České Budějovice and all of them were women. I first addressed the informants by phone or e-mail, then I met them and asked questions I had created in advance. I did not record the informants because I wrote their answers directly in the record sheet. In the discussion of my bachelor thesis, research results are summarized and commented. In the discussion I also comment on which social area is most influenced by the practice of self-harm, what are the tendencies to self -harm and what are the most common places for self -harm. At the end of the thesis, the contribution of this bachelor thesis is discussed and it is also mentioned how it could be used and how it could be useful.
