Benzene in petroleum-derived products and health protection
Bílková, Karolina ; Kořínek, Pavel (referee) ; Stránský,, Vladimír (advisor)
Benzene is very toxic compound, which has carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. Result of these effects is significant reduction of its use and also low hygienic limits in occupational environment and environment. The aim of this diploma thesis was to map out possible exposure to benzene and checking of clasification correctness of motor gasoline and benzine (cleaners, thinners etc.). Determination of benzene was carried out by gas chromatography with flame ionisation detector (GC/FID) and high performance liquid chromatography with diod array detector (HPLC/DAD). Marginally, the diploma thesis was focused on determination of toluene (in june 2007 became effective ordinance no.284/2006 Sb., which forbid to sell products that contain more than 0,1 % of toluene to small consumers). Toluene was determined by same methods as benzene.
Approach adolescent to homosexuality
Bílková, Karolina ; Nováková, Ivana (advisor) ; Dvořáčková, Hana (referee)
Annotation: This paper's thesis "Approach adolescent to homosexuality" is divided to two parts. The first part is theoretical and the second is practical. In the theoretical part I deal with the topic of homosexuality from the historical and present perspective. The goal of this part is to introduce the main problems of homosexuality. In the practical part I carry out a survey on high schools and interviews six homosexuals. The goal of the survey was to found out if the higher education on schools has influence to the opinion of adolescents on these problems. I want to point out how persons with this sexual orientation sense the attitude of society to homosexuality in the interviews with homosexuals.
Career counseling as a part of a general system of coanseling at High schools
Bílková, Karolína ; Mazáčová, Nataša (advisor) ; Sekot, Jaroslav (referee)
Thesis Career Counseling, as a part of a general system of counseling at high schools, deals with diverse approaches towards professional preparation at high schools. Any help, with making a right decision of choosing a career or continuing in studies, is undoubtedly an important source for each person at high school and has been occupying this distinctive role in education. This thesis is trying to bring about the changing of the position of Career Counselor's within the school system, in a general system of counseling. The goal of this thesis is to cover the various subjects' conception of counselors at high schools and also trying to entitle their targets in connection with reality. At the end there will be given a description and clarification of three different high schools (each with different cultural and social-economic conditions) and their correspondences towards Career counseling in cooperation with the content analyses of the subjects' conceptions of Career counseling.
Interactive effects of carotenoid supplementation and oxidative stress on sperm morphology, sperm quality and spermatogenesis in the Zebra finches
Bílková, Karolína ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Jonáková, Věra (referee)
The phenotype-linked fertility hypothesis predicts that both, male carotenoid-based sexual ornamentation and their spermatozoa are phenotypically plastic and may be co-affected by the environment. One of the factors affecting their phenotype may be oxidative stress and the ability of organism to eliminate its effect. Oxidative stress may reduce sperm quality because sperm lack the ability to repair DNA, but it can also affect spermatogenesis itself. However, some substances may function as antioxidants, and thus eliminate effect of reactive oxygen species (oxidative stress) in the body. In this study, adult zebra finch males (Taeniopygia guttata) originating from the domesticated and recently wild-derived populations were exposed to the diquat (D), which enhances the oxidative stress, and carotenoid lutein (L), which could have an antioxidant function. Experimental design had factorial character 2x2 with a control (group L, D, LD, control). Neither oxidative stress, carotenoids, nor their interactions affected sperm morphology or velocity and it also did not increase abnormal sperm proportion in the ejaculate. However, the differences were observed at the molecular level, where by inducing the oxidative stress, the sperm had reduced signal intensity of acetylated α-tubulin in the sperm tails....
Post-copulatory sexual selection and sperm phenotypes
Bílková, Karolína ; Albrecht, Tomáš (advisor) ; Děd, Lukáš (referee)
Postcopulatory sexual selection has two basic components, sperm competition and cryptic female choice. In this thesis I summarize available data of the influence of postcopulatory sexual selection on sperm morhology and phenotype, focusing on both vertebrates and selected invertebrate taxa. In the first part of my thesis, I provide an overview of sperm phenotype adaptations that are influenced by the sperm competition and may closely determine male fertilization success. These are the length of sperm, sperm swimming speed and motility, longevity of sperm and the amount of ejaculate produced. Sperm phenotypes that evolve under strong postocopulatory selection may also involve morphological adaptations alowing sperm to mutually cooperate in the female reproductive tract. The cryptic female choise, in which female selectively use sperm after the sperm enters her reproductive tract, and the coevolution of sperm morphology and female reproductive tract is presented in the second part of this thesis.
