The quality of life of people with hearing disabilities from an ethical perspective
BÍLKOVÁ, Ladislava
The thesis deals with the quality of life of people with hearing impairment in various stages of life with utilization of compensatory devices which affect their fulfilled and high-quality life from the ethical point of view. It also deals with the Act No. 329/2011 Coll., setting conditions for granting the compensatory devices to people with hearing impairment and role of social worker at social department of labor office with ethical approaches. By writing the thesis I come to conclusion that when assessing applications according to the law about compensatory devices, the 30-year-old setting of total hearing loss is considered. Big changes occurred in our society since then, integration, social inclusion gain ground but still only the offer of compensatory devices changed in the law. By change, meaning reduction of the total hearing loss from 85% according to Fowler to lower value in the law would lead to better usability of some compensatory devices for the benefit of the people with moderate to severe hearing loss and by that to their better inclusion into society and higher overall quality of life. Higher competence of medical assessors or social workers could also be considered with emphasis on individual assessment of applications according to social and life situation of the applicant.
