In-matrix esterification of polar carboxylic acids in urine
Anýžová, Petra ; Mráz, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Feltl, Ladislav (referee)
A set of 15 carboxylic acids of various structural types was used to test a new procedure of esterification of these substances in the urine without previous extraction. The acids were first measured by a reference method without the matrix, and then by a procedure, where lyophilized urine was treated with derivatizing reagent alcohol·HCl, which was then evaporated, the residue dissolved in water, esters extracted into an organic solvent and subsequently determined by GC/FID and GC/MS. The work is mainly focused on 2-hydroxyethyl- and carboxymethyl-mercapturic acids, but the procedure was also tested on di-, tri- and hydroxy-carboxylic acids, known as physiological urinary components or markers of metabolic disorders. Key words: carboxylic acids mecapturic acids freeze-dried urine esterification gas chromatography
Theoretical and methodological perspective of cross-national comparative surveys (Application of cluster analysis in comparative analyses of European Social Survey)
Anýžová, Petra ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the theoretical and methodological perspectives of comparative cross-national surveys. The importance of these perspectives currently increases, especially because of the creation of extensive continual international programs, as for instance European Social Survey, which realize quantitative researches with broad range of social topics. The Czech Republic began to engage in these international projects after 1989. The first goal of my thesis was to map the contributions which comparative studies bring into the combination of the theory and research in the area of sociology and illustrate the ability of comparative studies to contribute to the constructions of new theories and verifications of already existing theories. The thesis focuses also on the description of specific attributes which separate comparative studies from the standard monocultural studies. The second goal of my thesis was to describe methodological background of comparative survey researches with an emphasis on the concept of equivalence in cross-national research and on the achieving of quality of international surveys. Apart from the general methodological characterization an attention was paid to the specific approaches of the analysis of collected international data. Cluster analysis seems to be the most...

Petra A n ý ž o v á Doctoral thesis: Cross-Country Comparability of Social Capital and Political Disaffection Attitude Scales in the European Social Survey Abstract The doctoral thesis deals with the methodological perspectives of comparative cross-national research. Currently, in the globalization period, the importance of these perspectives has been increasing. Unfortunately, social scientists analyse attractive international data more and more often without realising the levels of data comparability. Therefore they are not fully aware the best approach to statistical analysis of these data and their convenient comparative interpretation. This thesis introduces the issue of data equivalence as one of the most important quality aspects of cross-national research and focuses especially on attitude scales owing to the fact that their comparability is endangered the most in comparative research. In particular, the subject of the analysis is the international comparability of two of the most frequent robust attitude scales: namely social capital and political disaffection scales as they are measured in the European Social Survey first data set. In sociology and political science, these two social science concepts are very significant and they have been studied both theoretically and empirically as social...
