Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work
Lelkes, Ivana ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.

The image of the postindustrial city is formed by public spaces (streets, plazas and squares, parks, riverfronts and waterfronts) together with a wide range of underused urban spaces and long-term unused areas of stalled spaces. The subject of this work is research of different types of urban gardening spaces and their optimal spatial, operational and functional parameters in the context of urbanism and urban planning. The aim is to apply them to the structure of unused urban spaces. On the basis of the case studies included in the research, the success of placement of individual community projects in different types of public spaces and stalled spaces is assessed. Recommendations for planning practice are based on these evaluations. The results of the work show that spaces with possibilities of horticultural production are a suitable solution for the temporary and also long-term use of under-utilized urban areas with many benefits in social, economic and environmental areas.

ŠAFOV – URBAN RENEWAL OF A VILLAGE IN THE BORDER REGION
Ličmanová, Eva ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Thesis deals with Šafov, small village located near Austrian border. History of the village is quite dramatic. Population is ten times smaller nowadays than during its greatest prosperity. At the village there was a jewish part destroyed during and after World War II. Nowadays there are only a few houses and jewish cemetary. Continuity was extremely aborted after World War II, when most residents had to leave their homes because of German nationality. New comming people early had to live very close to Iron Curtain. After many years Šafov can breathe freely but stigma of the past is still evident. I try to preserve dramatical history but also design new active plan. Thesis is divided to three parts: urban planning, architecture and landscape. There are some bigger interventions and also small and easily realizable ones.

Residential Complex in Brno - Komín
Lichtnerová, Eliška ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The given area is situated on the edge of Brno, Brno- Komín. Today, it is known as the town district that is located northwest from Brno. Despite its close connection with the city center, it still has the character of the original small town or even a village. The advantage of its surrounding area is mainly ist the natural forest coming in from surrounding sides of the valley in which it sits. The proposed urban design is based on two residential areas along axis coming from south to north direction. The axes are the base lines for residential street from which all the main entries of housing are located. The street divides into two levels, as it represents two distinct level platforms, where vehicles are divided from pedestrians. The aim was to create a housing structure for multigenerational families. To create a main room frame in which given family could decide about the plan of rooms as well as orientation. Hence the material structure was selected so one large room could be sheltered giving the opportunity for inhabitant input.
