Science Camps as the Possible Way to Increase Pupils' Knowledge, Skills and Interest in geological topics

This dissertation focuses on non-formal education. It describes science camps with a geological topics which are non-formal events that may be visited by children and youth during their initial education. The aim of this thesis is to describe concepts of science (geological) camps and learn about the specific knowledge, skills and interests of their participants in the field of geology. The thesis is introduced in four independent studies which describe a completed mixed research and a solution by the researched targets. Camp groups from five non-formal educational institutions in the Czech Republic were examined. The analysis of camp concepts took place with instructors (N=21) during ten camp sessions. Thereafter two alternative content of camps were established: a field laboratory concept and a concept with equally represented focus on the participants' activity. In this part of research the questionnaires with open-ended questions were used, which were directed at instructors' statements about scientific and educational activities of participants. A data collection for the analysis observing specific geological knowledge, skills and interests of participants always took place at the beginning and at the end of the nine or ten camp sessions. Science excursion to the Krčský les area

Excursions are an organizational form of teaching that is relatively often neglected in today's schools. Excursions are very important in education of pupils on grammer and secondary schools, because it allows to combine the knowledge of pupils gained during theoretical lessons in school with practical demonstrations of items, processes and relationships among objects in the terrain. Pupils are better acquainted with the required curriculum and more effectively fulfill the predetermined educational target. This diploma thesis introduces an example of such an excursion into the Krčský les area. In the theoretical part of this diploma thesis are summarized basic didactic aspects related to organizational forms of teaching, excursions, teaching methods and Framework Education Programmes. There are also chracteristics of the Krčský les area focused mainly on the natural conditions, specifically on geological, hydrological, botanical and zoological aspects. Statistical Literacy of Students of Teaching Biology in the Czech Republic

Especially in connection with the results of the PISA research, the literacy in the natural science field has been lately becoming the topic of scientific discussion. It had become apparent that Czech students attain lower levels of procedural knowledge and face difficulties in evaluation and planning of natural scientific research, when compared to student of other countries. In order to be able to make use of the synergy effect between the natural science literacy and statistical literacy, it is crucial for the students themselves to be literate in statistics. Analysis of Secondary School Pupils' Knowledge and the Interpretation of Evolutionary Biology by Teachers in the Czech Republic, England and Scotland

An evolution is considered the single greatest unifying theory in biology. Therefore, evolution is a crucial topic from the perspective of didactics of biology because it reaches contemporary paradigm of science education. These doctoral thesis deals with the educative aspects in the field of evolutionary biology. Given the fact that educational content and understanding of causal patterns in science may be influenced by the sociocultural background, the whole research is carried out in comparison with Great Britain. The main aim of the thesis is carried out three successive analyzes. First, the occurrence and the content of definitions of evolutionary terms in Czech and British science or biology textbooks have been compared (16 Czech and 16 British textbooks). Data were evaluated using content analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. Subsequently, a comparison of teaching evolution has been made using a questionnaire survey (350 Czech and 122 British teachers) and interviews (10 Czech and 7 British teachers). Finally, a comparison of the Czech and British pupils' knowledge and opinions on specific evolutionary topics were obtained via a questionnaire (964 Czech and 97 British pupils). Komplex school excursion with usage protected territorys - CHKO Czech karst

The aim of the dissertation is to evaluate education potential of choice area and elaboration model of complex school excursion for interactive students work with usage natural places of Czech karst. Next point is creating a set of learning excercises in practical application knowledges from natural branches and for confirm keys competenses of students middle schools. An educational potential of a chosen area was evaluated on the bases of aims mentioned earlier, a model of a complex school excursion using conservation area Czech karst was developed and tested. The excursion takes place in the village Svatý Jan pod Skalou and it uses worksheets. An evaluation following the excursion is done as a form of a student conference. Evaluation of the worksheets follows and designs of changes of teaching tasks in the worksheets are proposed. Based on the evaluation of the complex scholar excursion in conservation area Czech karst worsheets and results from the conference, it is possible to deduce that the addition of excursions as a teaching form is benefitial to students. Particular educational aims were applied during the excursion. Knowledge obtained from the dissertation as well as the created conception of excursion will be utilized in a secondary school tearcher's practice.
A school excursion for primary schoolers and high schoolers to the zoological garden Brno, animal behaviour study

The master thesis pursues the options of utilization of a zoological garden in Brno for the needs of the education school field trip. This thesis is dividend into two parts: theoretical and practical. The school field trip as a form of educational tool is introduced in the opening part. The following section deals with the significance and relevance of the zoological garden as an educational centre with regards to the history of the Brno Zoo. At the end of this section, ethology is presented as a fully-fledged science discipline. The main aim of the practical part of the thesis was creating a groundwork for interactive observation of the basic behavioural patterns of the animals in the Zoo. Methodical instructions for the set-up, execution and evaluation of this observation and work sheet are included. There are two additional components of the master thesis - school field trip motivational presentation in MS Power Point format and the blank work sheet, both to be found on CD.
Highly gifted and talented pupils in scientific educational fi.ld and reality of school experience

This thesis deals with the occurrence of scientifically gifted students at Czech schools. The talent affects a person's life fundamentally but also it influences the lives of others people. These gifted and talented people usually become leading scientists and researchers. They can affect important social events significantly during their professional careers. After the family teachers and school are the most important part in development of the child. Therefore teachers should know what specific educational requirements gifted students have. It's necessary to determine the status of teachers. In the theoretical part of the thesis the main aim of the literary review was a theoretical background of the talent, the incidence of gifted pupils at Czech and foreign schools, the work with gifted pupils at foreign schools and educational institutions and associations working with gifted children. In the practical part of the thesis a questionnaire was created and then distributed to teachers of science subjects. The questionnaire has found foreknowledge Czech teachers of the concept of genius and talent. ABSTRACT: This Dissertation deals with philosophical bases of environmental education. It conducts a survey of a historical development from nature protection education, through environmental care, ecological education, and environmental education up to education for sustainable development in the Czech Republic. In the chapter "The Reasons of environmental education" certain until now nonanswered questions are formulated, following the chapter where Fink's educational antinomies are discussed. Environmental schools are described by Činčera like ecological education - positivistic stream, global education, deep ecological education and way back to roots, education for sustainable development, and education for ecoliteracy.
