The main goal of the thesis is to describe a position of the real experiment in chemistry at the beginning of the 21 century and to contribute to solution of speculations if this didactic tool is or is not at current schools such a rarity as it's often described. The starting point of the thesis is extensive research of the literature related to history of natural science literacy which is condition not only for the right experiment interpretation but also of its suitable usage in the lessons. The theoretical part observes also the ensuring of the chemical experiment in the curricular documents and its position in the chemistry teaching in recent past. The experiment is a dynamic visualia therefore the visualias are classified in particular part of the thesis and their occurrence and function are described - in today's information society, chemistry textbooks, as a part of hypermedia programs for chemistry teaching and in lessons in general. The thesis focuses partly on hypermedia programs, especially then on materials for chemistry teaching that proved to be helpful in e-learning. Through the questionnaire inquiry at primary and secondary schools in Czech Republic were discovered not merely material also personal options of the schools and chemistry teachers in relation to the experiment...
Demonstrations as an illustrative tool in chemistry education
Hájková, Zdeňka ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Nižňanský, Daniel (referee)
Demonstrations are considered an important illustrative tool in chemistry education. Quite often teachers use demonstrations of experiments and multimedia demonstrations. Besides, "non-experimental" demonstrations might also be useful, such as material models and demonstrations based on macroscopic analogy that can be usually carried out only with household items and materials. This dissertation is especially aimed at selecting appropriate demonstrations, at their design, development and use of "non-experimental" demonstrations. Moreover, special attention was paid to the interdisciplinary demonstrations concerning the nanoworld, so called "nanodemonstrations". All "nanodemonstrations" presented are safe, cheap and rather timesaving. Furthermore, they can be carried out in a form of lecture and / or students' demonstration. Newly created as well as adopted (and modified) "nanodemonstrations" were collected into the Czech database of "nanodemonstrations". The database was additionally accompanied with following educational materials concerning "nano": two PowerPoint presentations, worksheets that supplement students' "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets with interdisciplinary tasks. This thesis also deals with the evaluation of "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets in secondary school classes. The...

Title: Case study of diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Ligament surgery Author: Chartosias Pavlos Aim: In the thesis I will be analyzed the function and the mechanism of the knee joint, understanding the kinesiology relation with the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, focusing on the main principles and procedures of the therapy and rehabilitation after one day of surgery. Methods: The therapy included five meetings with the patient during two weeks of clinical practice. The patient had physiotherapy in the morning at the same time. The main goal for the first five days after surgery was to archive as bigger Range Of Motion was possible in the operated knee joint, remove the pain, strength and relax a group of muscles, mobilized any blocked joint and educate the patient how to use the crutches physiological and how can be independent as much possible. Results: Our therapeutic relation between me and the patient was perfect. After five days of therapy my patient archives 50 degrees flexion in the operated knee joint from 0 at the first day. Her doctor was very satisfy, that's why he indicated to her that she is able to go home after the fifth day of my therapy because my therapy was effectiveness and the results were positive. Key words: Anterior Cruciate Ligament, Range Of Motion, Post Isometric Relaxation,...
Preparation of plasmonic nanoparticles in non-aqueous environments and in water using chemical way and by laser ablation and their testing

Eva Stratilová Urválková; Dissertation Thesis Title: Microcomputer-Based Laboratory in Secondary School Chemistry Education Abstract School experimental practice should reflect the real laboratory practice so that school science keeps in touch with reality. Todays laboratories are fully equipped with instrumental devices that are often presented in media, so it is necessary that students have experience also with this way of experiments. For school purposes seem suitable probeware (school experimental systems), that combine modern technology with concept of student-centered learning (eg inquiry based science education) that should successfully prepare students for lifelong learning. During recent years probeware has become one of discussed topics in Czech science education, but there has been a lack of research examining whether both teachers and pupils are prepared to accept and implement probeware into school chemistry curriculum. Almost none research has been done in field search describing the way of using the probeware and microcomputer-based laboratory in Czech school curriculum. Presented mixed method research focuses on attitudes of chemistry teachers (N = 65), pre-service chemistry teachers (N = 38) and students (N = 50) regarding attitudes to general devices and measuring devices (or probeware) to...
Chemical thermodynamics in chemisty education at grammar schools
Tříska, Jan ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Šmejkal, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on teaching chemical thermodynamics at the four-year grammar school. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of current curricula. Basic document is the Framework educational programme for grammar schools. Subsequently, in a few cases of the School educational programs my work present the scope of this topic at different grammar schools and inclusion in a school year. My thesis also includes reviews of the most widely used grammar school textbooks. Practical part of my thesis deals with creating my own textbooks of chemical thermodynamics for grammar schools. These textbooks should to be actually used in chemical thermodynamics education at grammar school in compulsory and optional chemistry subjects. These textbooks include a brief explanation of subject matter and teaching tasks encouraging pupils to be more active in class. They comprise all the essentials of secondary school textbooks and present all the grammar school matter of chemical thermodynamics and thermochemistry in detail. Both textbooks contain solutions of teaching tasks for teachers.
Setting up educational materials for the topic Chemistry around us
Štefková, Ivona ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Smrček, Stanislav (referee) ; Richtr, Václav (referee)
This dissertation deals with the creation of educational materials to topics from the field Chemistry around us and circumstances of its implementation into teaching chemistry with regard to the needs posed by curricular documents. The connection between real world and the content of the chemistry subject, which is taught at schools, is shown on the curricular topics related to medicinal chemistry and to fertilizer chemistry. This could make the student getting a better overview of the subject itself. Regarding the specialist and didactical part, the teaching material tries to make it easier for the teacher to prepare for the lessons and make them more interesting due to the teaching material's variability and processing (teaching text, powerpoint presentations, plays, laboratory exercises etc.). This way, the student gains access to practical topics through various types of exercises, interesting aspects, plays etc. The evaluation of educational materials and investigation of student's and teacher's attitude was carried out via a questionnaire investigation. The investigation showed that both students and teachers regard these topics as beneficial and belonging to the field of chemistry. The medicinal topics were approached by the girls better than by the boys, which was not the case of the...
Portrayals of First World War trauma in Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway and Pat Barker's Regeneration
Šmejkal, Petr ; Chalupský, Petr (advisor) ; Topolovská, Tereza (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore the portrayals of First World War trauma in Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway and Pat Barker's Regeneration and compare them. The thesis will also try to describe the typical symptoms, possible causes and treatment of the trauma, as portrayed in literature. Since Mrs. Dalloway was one of the first literary works to deal with this kind of trauma, while Regeneration was written many years after the War, the thesis will also try to discover how this fact affected the way the trauma is portrayed in these novels.
