The Pirate movement phenomenon in the world and the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with history, foundation, principles and specific activities of Pirate parties in the world and the Czech Republic. In the beginning, author introduces history and context of the pirate movement, specifically by describing groups around hacking, free software or open access. Ideas of the Free Software Foundation founder, Richard Stallman and of the well-known American lawyer Lawrence Lessig are thoroughly described, since they work as a substance for the fundamental pirate principles, like freedom of information, privacy protection or copyright law revision. After defining selected information policies, author describes foundation and activities of the European Pirate parties. It lays emphasis on the first Pirates in Sweden, the successful German Pirate party, the problems of internet policy in France and on the European union topics, specifically the international ACTA treaty. In the final part, author introduces the history and information policy of the Czech Pirate party, which is compared with the information policy of the Czech Republic in the light of fundamental principles of the pirate movement.
How Application of Similar Instruments Influence the Form of Computer Games and Cinema, Is There a Convergence?

The goal of thesis is to analyze agrements and diferences, which originate in fields of movies and computer games, in case of use of similar technical instruments. The text describes historic developement of both of media and its expressive instruments. This thesis is simultaneously focused on points of contact of movies and games - its technical instruments and its utilisation. Thesis also refers to mutual inspiration between both medias and also analyses crucial diferences in specific methods of movie a and computer games naration.
Serious games and their Possible Use in Teaching and Learning

Diploma thesis "Serious games and their possible use in teaching and learning" describes the so-called "serious games" and evaluates the potential of teaching and learning with regards to the current educational and information needs. This thesis originated in 2010 and especially the research case studies, Simon E. Nielsen, Vit Šisler, Cyril Brom, and user testing of educational games such as Europe in 2045 and his active participation in the workshop devoted Enter3 serious games, where the author participated in the creation of several "serious" modules the game Unreal Tournament. At the beginning author describes the methodological apparatus of the thesis with the focus on the theoretical aspects and the research of computer games as a scientific field called game studies. The second part deals with the development and current form of computer games. Furthermore, the author attempts a breakdown and categorization of "serious games" in compliance with the genre or centred on their influance on the key groups (students, employees). He also wants to find an answer to the question "why we play the games" or what makes the games serious. Information behavior of students of institutions of higher education in the United Arab Emirates

This master's thesis deals with Internet information behavior of students of institutions of higher education in the Abu Dhabi emirate in the United Arab Emirates. It stems from fundamental research conducted in the Spring semester of 2009. The data analyzed in this thesis were collected by way of questionnaires at the institutions of higher education in Abu Dhabi. The thesis starts with a description of the state of the informaiton society in the UAE with a focus on the issue of censorship on the Internet. Next it presents the basic demographic characteristics of the respondents and their profile as Internet users. It further analyzes socializing over the Internet, perception of censorship, perception of the Internet in the Emirati/Arab context and information seeking behavior of the students. It also examines these data sets from a perspective of gender, age, and subjectively perceived social status.
Legislation related to issue of the free access to information in international context

The thesis is focused on some questions stemming from the limitations of the right to free access to information in connection with the implementation of classified information protection in the context of activities of state security organizations. The basic legislation covering this area has been summarized. Further, the thesis explores theoretical as well as practical procedures and principles aimed at minimization of both real and potential threats to individual rights and basic principles of the open society in cases of performance of such sorts of limitations. Besides, some examples of the solutions carried out in certain countries and in addition several decisions of the European Court on Human Rights are mentioned. Finally, the contemporary status of the matter in the Czech Republic is examined.
The Internet, New Media, and Islam: Production of Islamic Knowledge and Construction of Muslim Identity in the Digital Age

This dissertation analyzes the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) and new media on the production of Islamic knowledge and the construction of Muslim identity in Muslim communities in the Arab world and Western Europe. Today we witness an unprecedented proliferation of ICT and new media in the Arab and Muslim world as well as growing interdependency of various media outlets. This process includes media that morph into each other, messages that migrate across boundaries, and social networks that utilize multiple technologies. The unanticipated assemblages formed by these media contribute simultaneously to preserving traditional cultural norms and religious values while unsettling the existing arrangements and promoting new organizational forms; appealing to a local audience while addressing transnational communities; and asserting conformity with established religious institutions while fueling fragmentation of authority and individualization of faith. Therefore, this dissertation aims to transcend the media-centric logic and to analyze the impact of ICT and new media in the light of the above-mentioned interdependency and hybridization within broader social, cultural and linguistic context. Modernization of the judicial system using new informational technologies

Tématem práce je vliv nových informačních a komunikačních technologií na rozvoj v oblasti justice.Větší část textu se věnuje domácímu vládnímu projektu elektronického a internetového soudnictví - eJustice. Zadáním tohoto projektu je umožnit vést většinu soudní agendy do roku 2012 v elektronické podobě. Závěrečným a také stěžejním bodem programu eJustice je elektronický soudní spis, jehož zavedení umožní bezpečný přístup k informacím pro oprávněné osoby. Kromě soudního eSpisu jsou v práci analyzovány i další důležité aplikace projektu elektronizace justice, jako je ePodatelna, infoSOUD, insolevenční rejstřík, elektronické úřední desky nebo ePlatební rozkaz. Podrobněji jsou v práci rozebrány i vedlejší aplikace systému eJustice, které podporují hlavní cíle projektu. Pozornost je věnována také legislativním úpravám, které jsou při modernizaci veřejné správy zásadní. Závěrečná část práce se věnuje modernímu prostředku pro řešení sporů, kterým je rozhodčí řízení on line.
Professional users demands on legal information systems: comparison of systems relevant for Czech juridical environment

Tématem práce JSOU systémy právních informací relevantní pro české právní prostředí. Cílem práce je formulace požadavků odborných uživatelú na takové systémy, zpracování nutných teoretických východisek a následná analýza jednotlivých systémú a jejich srovnání. Práce se věnuje jak teoretickým základúm informačního chování, tak otázkám tvorby práva, formám jeho vyjádření a interpretace. Popisuje rúzné typy právních dokumentú a jejich typické vlastnosti. Dále se zabývá specifiky právního jazyka a problematikou vyhledávání v automatizovaných systémech právních informací. Popisuje, analyzuje a srovnává vybrané systémy právních informací, hlavně systémy ASPI, LexGalaxy a EUR-Lex, včetně jejich hodnocení.
Legislation related to the right of free access to information

Tématem diplomové práce je legislativa vztahující se k právu na svobodný příshlp k informacím. Práce vycházející ze zákonů a právních předpisů vztahujících se k právu na svobodný přístup k informacím přibližuje zejména záldadní české legislativní prameny tohoto práva (Listina záldadních práv a svobod, zálcon č. 106/1999 Sb., o svobodném přístupu k informacím), a také z politickohistorického hlediska uvádí nelehkou cestu českého státu k nim. Zákon o svobodném přístupu k informacím je nazírán z pohledu jeho novelizace z roku 2006 (zálcon č. 61/2006 Sb.). Dále tato práce nastiňuje problematiku svobodného přístupu k informacím ve vybraných státech v zahraničí (USA, Velká Británie, Německo ). Práce vychází z odborných českých a zahraničních právních norem a odborné právnické literatury. Z hlediska struktury je práce členěna do tří hlavních kapitol, které jsou dále strukturovaně členěny do podkapitol.
The role of animation in user interface of mobile devices

This diploma thesis deals with the use of animations in the user interface (UI) of mobile devices. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part presents the theoretical basics of designing user interfaces for mobile devices, the second part is dedicated to the definition of animation, its usage, functions and the perception of animation in user interface. The third part summarizes existing research dedicated to the related field and research methods used in this thesis. The fourth part is focused on the research which was conducted as comparative study based on prototype user testing examining the different types of animation and their impact on the users. The last, fifth section, presents main research findings and answers the research questions. The results reflect the impact of animation on the UI and shows what are the advantages and limits of the use of animation.
