Implementation of 2D Ultrasound Simulations
Šimek, Dominik ; Vaverka, Filip (referee) ; Jaroš, Jiří (advisor)
The work deals with design and implementation of 2D ultrasound simulation. Applications of the ultrasound simulation can be found in medicine, biophysic or image reconstruction. As an example of using the ultrasound simulation we can mention High Intensity Focused Ultrasound that is used for diagnosing and treating cancer. The program is part of the k-Wave toolbox designed for supercomputer systems, specifically for machines with shared memory architecture. The program is implemented in the C++ language and using OpenMP acceleration.  Using the designed solution, it is possible to solve large-scale simulations in 2D space. The work also deals with merging and unification of the 2D and 3D simulation using modern C++. A realistic example of use is ultrasound simulation in transcranial neuromodulation and neurostimulation in large domains, which have more than 16384x16384 grid points. Simulation of such size may take several days if we use the original MATLAB 2D k-Wave. Speedup of the new implementation is up to 8 on the Anselm and Salomon supercomputers.
Design of Data Warehouse in SaaS Company
Zetocha, Adam ; Šimek, Dominik (referee) ; Kříž, Jiří (advisor)
The diploma thesis consists of design and steps leading to build of data warehouse in startup developing SaaS product. Theoretical information about data warehouses and business intelligence are projected into design and following process of data warehouse development mainly for marketing data. Importing process of data into a data warehouse and reporting are fully automated.
Single stage amplifiers employing JFET and MOSFET for educational laboratory purposes
Šimek, Dominik ; Petržela, Jiří (referee) ; Langhammer, Lukáš (advisor)
Bachelor thesis deals with design and construction of measuring box for amplifiers with unipolar transistors, which will be used within laboratory classes. The point of the thesis is to create a complex instrument, which offers system used for measuring of essential characteristics of common-drain, common-source and/or common-gate amplifiers. It will help students to more easily understand principle of unipolar transistors. The printed circuit board will contain amplifier circuits with MOSFET and JFET transistors, with option to switch between measuring N-type or P-type channel transistor. The design itself is substantiated by analysis of essential theoretical properties of unipolar transistors, by numerical calculations, and simulations, which are also parts of the thesis.
Efficient Implementation of High Performance Algorithms on Intel Xeon Phi
Šimek, Dominik ; Hrbáček, Radek (referee) ; Jaroš, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis is dedicated to the implementation of high performance algorithms on the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor. The Xeon phi was introduced by Intel as a new MIC (Many Integrated Core) architecture in 2012. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the architecture of the coprocessor (with peak performance of 2 tFLOPS for a single precision data) and on the procedure of algorithms implementation and optimization. The theoretical knowledge is then applied to a practical examples with demonstration of the implementation and  the optimization of algorithms and work with the coprocessor. In the practical part of the thesis, simple benchmarks such as a vector matrix multiplication and a matrix multiplication are explained and implemented. In the first benchmark 6.5% of theoretical coprocessor performance was achieved, in the second it was much more. In following chapter a more complex benchmark - simulation of a particles system (N-Body), that reached more than 35% of coprocessor performance (725 gFLOPS), is discussed. The following section is dedicated to some interesting problems such as optimization of a MATLAB module k-Wave (propagation  of the ultrasound waves), extraction of I-vector (speech processing), cross-compilation of existing libraries, modules and programs. In the conclusion of the thesis the usage the potential of the Intel Xeon Phi is evaluated.
