Tučková, Iveta ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Šedivý, Marek (referee)
Sufficient physical activity is one of the most important factors for maintain our overall health. The positive effects of physical activity are reduced risk of heart disease or stroke, hypertension, type II diabetes and some types of cancer. Being physically active also improves our mood and reduce anxieties. Therefore, it is important to understand, what effects the level of physical activity of population. That is the aim of this study. The study describes the determinants of physical activity various five European countries, using the data from INHERIT survey. The analysis focuses on censored data and is conducted with sample selection Heckman Two-step estimator model, addressing separately the factors of deciding whether or not participate in an activity and performing the activity. The differences between determinants for three types for physical activities are examined.

Studie popisuje determinanty fyzické aktivity v pěti evropských zemích a využívá data z průzkumu INHERIT. Analýza je provedena pomocí Heckmanova modelu, tzv. Dvoustupňového odhadu. Tato práce analyzuje tři typy fyzických aktivit, které jsou blíže zkoumány pomocí "Unrelated Regression system" modelu.
Economic Transformation and Inequality: Czech Republic, 1978-2016
Bernard, Adam ; Šedivý, Marek (advisor) ; Cahlík, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis is primarily focused on the analysis and description of the de- velopment of the gender wage gap in the Czech Republic before and after the Czech economic transformation. We studied and adjusted the datasets at the household level from two different sources Czech Social Science Data Archive (CSSDA) and Luxembourg Income Study Database (LIS) to ensure compati- ble results that are comparable for each year. Using the method of ordinary least squares regression we aimed to calculate the adjusted gender wage gap and compare the development of wage influencing factors. As a result of the study we found out that the gender wage gap follows a U-shaped trend with differences between male and female wages being 28% in 1978, then reaching 18% in 2004 and further declining to 23.3% in 2016. We observed a significant increase in marginal returns to tertiary education before and after the trans- formation. When comparing separate male and female population predictors, we observe opposite returns to having children and being married, positive for men and negative for women throughout the observed period. The contribution of this research lies mainly in providing comparable figures for all the observed years and may help us better understand the underwent changes concerning wage inequality. 1

Hrabětová, L., Public relations in non-profit organizations. Diploma Thesis. Prague: Charles University in Prague, 2017. The thesis aims to develop a methodology PR for smaller non-profit organizations. PR analysis was carried out in a non-profit organization Charity Opava, which fulfills its mission, and its activities shows that PR function can improve the organization's image and provide a solid foundation for fundraising and marketing activities. Without a functional PR is the systematic implementation of fundraising activities elusive. I formulated a methodology based on the information gathered from semistructured interview with Ivo Mludek which has a PR of Charita Opava in chargé, from his lecture on PR for organizations working in social services in Charity Jesenik dated 20 of October 2016 and analysis of publicly available documents . Keywords: non-profit organizations, public relations in non-profit organizations, fundraising, cause-related marketing, Charity Opava, PR tools

The relationship between education and labour force structure in African countries: gender comparison
Le, Duc Anh ; Chytilová, Julie (advisor) ; Šedivý, Marek (referee)
This thesis investigates the association between education and person's labour market status in African countries, with specific focus on Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Data from the most recent household surveys conducted by respec- tive countries' statistical agencies are applied to this research. The analysis was further broken down by sex to examine, whether similar results could be derived for male and female population. This was achieved by carrying out the series of gender-specific logit models. The findings of this thesis suggest that more edu- cated people are more likely to engage in formal employment and less likely to engage in subsistence farming, regardless of gender or country. However, no clear association was found between education and unemployment. Furthermore, the returns to male's education were at least as significant as female's returns, if not larger, in terms of formal employment incidence. Keywords education, formal employment, gender disparity, subsistence farming, logit
Migration and Development: A Meta-Analysis
Palecek Rodríguez, Miroslava María ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šedivý, Marek (referee)
The current literature on international migration is diverse, and there is an ongoing debate as to the size and magnitude of the development-migration nexus, and no consensus about this effect has been reached. In this thesis, I explore quantitatively the effect of GDP (as a measure of development) on migration using a meta-analysis approach by synthesizing the empirical findings on this effect, adjusting for the biases, and controlling for the design of the studies. To examine the phenomenon in a systematic way, I collected 179 regression coefficients from 40 different articles, where the results suggest a weak presence of publication selection. Nevertheless, when correcting for publication bias, the effect of development on migration is rather small. Additionally, to explain the inherent model uncertainty, the Bayesian model averaging (BMA) was conducted. The results suggest that studies controlling for the variables of direct foreign investment and age results in a larger effect of development on migration and that the presence of country- level differences boosts migration inflows, particularly in OECD countries.
