Between sport and ideology. Czechoslovak military sport in the Years 1948−1963

In this bachelor thesis I deal with military sport in Czechoslovakia in the Years 1948-1963. I examine the patterns of unified physical education and sport, military sport at high performance level and mass sport activity. I pay great attention to high performance sport. After the Communist Party seized the power sport became a significant factor in Czechoslovak society. The Army was an important part of the complex of changes in Czechoslovak sport that occured after 1948. It allowed the talented athletes to achieve a high performace level of sport and provided them with proper conditions. Physical education and sport became compulsory parts of military training. In the initial chapter I discuss the development and character of sport in Czechoslovakia since the end of World War Two untill the establishing of Czechoslovakia union of physical education. In the second chapter I clarify the concept of high performace sport and present the periodization of military high performance sport. Third chapter containes data on physical education and mass sport activity in Czechoslovak Army. In the last chapter I demonstrate an attitude of communist regieme to the making of the New socialist man.
Reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography

This bachelor's thesis is concerned with reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography. Carl von Clausewitz's work On war, is generally considered one of the most important and most well known books devoted to the problematic of armed conflict.. That is why it was chosen as a phenomenon, through which development and transformations of anglo-american military historiography is followed. In the first part of this theses, problematics of military history in general and legacy of Carl von Clausewitz in particular are described. In the second part gained knowledge is applied on historiographical survey.
Emanuel Moravec in the context of the contemporary military theory (1918−1938)

This work attempts to bring Emanuel Moravec's work and compare his views on the army and future war conflicts with former military thinkers such as Liddell Hart, Fuller and Guderian. At the same time, this work attempts to answer the question whether or not Emanuel Moravec created his own particular military theory and thus whether we can rank it among military theoreticians. The Soldiers of the Kaiser. Identities, Experiences and National Awareness of Czech Participants of the First World War The topics of presented dissertation are identities and experiences of Czech soldiers of the First World War. The sources of the dissertation are ego-documents of Czech soldiers, in particular mostly their diaries, in lesser extent also pieces of field correspondence and memoirs. The aim of the dissertation is the analysis of representations of identities, experiences and national awareness of authors of analysed sources. The research questions of the dissertation inquire about representations of constructions of identities in the sources, particularly about national, regional, religious or social identities; about construction of the otherness and depiction of the enemy in texts, about relation to the otherness and potential conflict of loyalties to the Czech national society and to service in the Austro-Hungarian army; about their gender identity; and about the question of construction of corporeality and experience of corporeality and the body as the construct of masculine identity. The presented dissertation belongs to the discipline Historical Anthropology.
National Security Corps 1945-1948

The thesis unravels the problem of creation of Sbor národní bezpečnosti in Czechoslovakia in both of its sections, Public Security and State's Inner Security. The thesis observes the period of 1945- 1948. The intention of the thesis is to form a compact view on a development of the most important office of inner security whose the most important parts had fallen under the control of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and had become the basic pillar of communist rule until 1989. The thesis also unravels the organisation, counts, decrees, equipment and function of SNB and its relation to the law system including illegal actions commited by members of SNB. The thesis relays on materials located in Security Units Archive Praha Na Struze and Siwiecova Ulice, its extention in Brno Kanice, Archive of the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic and a publication of J. Main theme of the thesis is the Czechoslovak Maneuvers in 1936. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter focuses on the creation of Czechoslovak army, the perion 1918-1932. The second chapter targets the reorganization of army in the period 1932-1936. The Third chapter is dedicated to the issue of armed forces in the period of the Austrian emperor.The fourth chapter is focused on the Czechoslovak Maneuvres in 1936 and research preparations, course, and made knowleges from the great interwar's maneuvres of Czechoslovak army. The fifth chapter closes arbitration service in the maneuvres. The sixth chapter deals with foreign's delegations on maneuvers and finally the seventh chapter is devoted to attitude and reakcions of czechoslovak's press and mankind.
Czech doctors in austro-hungarian army from 1876 to 1918

Main topic of this thesis is Czech doctors in Austro-Hungarian army since the formation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the end of the First World War. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the development of Austro-Hungarian medical service and military medical corps. The second part is concerned with the manner a military doctor was perceived by his surroundings. It also explores how the doctor perceived himself. The third part centers on the relationships between civilian and military doctors and civilian and military medicine. The fourth part describes the Czech civilian doctors' view of the army and its military doctors. Furthermore, it focuses on the attitude of civilian doctors to the army, war and Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and the First World War (1914-1918).
Benešov and the changes of its society 1918-1921

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyze if, respectively how much society in Benešov changed after first WWI. I was inspired by microhistory, comparison and probe method to map the period. I try to depict, how the society in Benešov developed. My main intention is to show, that development society in Benešov was after WWI mostly discontinuous, however we can find some examples of continuity. To be specific I research problems of municipal politics, education, Church, army, culture or associational life. They are questions that cannot by simply answered, for example one of them was Konopiště castle case. Described events are put in nationwide context. The main sources for my thesis were regional origin sources. Another information to my topic I got from contemporary press.
