Comparsion of control boards and financing of the public broadcasters in the Czech Republic and Austria
Havelka, Vít ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Mlsna, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the financing and broadcasting councils of the public service broadcasters in Austria and the Czech Republic, examining namely Austrian Broadcasting (Österreichischer Rundfunk) and Czech Television (Česká televize) along with Czech Radio (Český rozhlas). These institutions are often at the center of controversy due to their level of dependence on local political representatives. Their critics argue that they submit to political pressure and give up one of their main purposes - providing an objective, independent, unbiased, and balanced news service. The independence of public service broadcasters generally relies on stable, predictable funding and impartial supervision. For this reason, these two features are analyzed in this paper. More specifically, it examines how the aforementioned media are financed, how the broadcasting councils are appointed, and how the status quo interacts with the local political culture. On top of that, the discussion involves international recommendations of institutions such as the European Council, the European Union and UNESCO. This thesis makes use of the synchronous comparative methodological approach. At first the situation in each country is analyzed and subsequently compared to one another. Kleňha, Jan ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Šafařík, Petr (referee)
UNIVERZITA KARLOVA V PRAZE FAKULTA SOCIÁLNÍCH VĚD Institut mezinárodních studií Jan Kleňha Porovnání metod komerčního a politického marketingu v amerických médiích v 70. a 80. letech 20. století Bakalářská práce Praha 2014 Abstract: Two decades of 1970's and 1980's are perceived from a media point of view as an era of large and previously inexperienced systemic changes within the industry, with far-reaching impacts on the American society. This bachelor's thesis will focus on proving that, since it's extensive emergence in 1970's, the political marketing has been implementing many of the methods of commercial marketing, which were previously developed by rigorous empirical studies and were proven to be successful. Political campaigns were using the same media as the commercial campaigns and were forced to deal with the same cultural background and the same changes in the society. No matter what the crucial differences in financing, preconditions, aims or impacts between political and commercial advertising were, many of their methods were based on the same socio-psychological principles of influence and persuasion. Therefore, the more these methods were used in specific political campaigns, the more successful these campaigns were in reaching its objective.

Navrátilová, Šárka ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Mikulová, Soňa (referee)
of Bachelor Thesis The bachelor thesis "The Media Policy of the U. S. Occupation Administration in Bavaria on the example of Radio Munich" is dealing with a question, how the U. S. occupation administration influenced the functions of radio in Bavaria between years 1945-1946. It is focusing on a personnel policy and a form of control in the broadcasting. The compilation treatise shows that there was a considerable asymmetry between the American and German staff in Radio Munich. The number of Germans that could have participated in the programme production was gradually increased since the launch of broadcasting in May 1945, but there were Americans who had the authority, to decide about the employment of applicants and binding rules for all staff. The entirety of the programme was under U. S. control before its broadcasting. At the turn of the year 1945/1946, an obvious disagreement arose between members of the U. S. occupation administration and official U. S. policy towards Germany. Whereas the U. S. government required to withdraw its forces and make the radio broadcasting speedily independent, the Americans in the management of Bavarian radio didn't agree with that operation, because they were convinced the local personnel wasn't ready to take over full responsibility. They emphasised that the...
