Vatican City from the Point of View of the Theory of Political System
Gelnarová, Jitka ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Vladimíra (referee)
The study attempts to analyse the reality of the Vatican state in the context of convergence of the state and the Holy See. The traditional state-centred approach does not appear to be suitable for the analysis, considering the fact that Vatican represents a multidimensional phenomenon characterised by merging of a state and a non-state entity. Therefore, I attempted to apply an alternative approach, namely the theory of political system. The main theoretical basis of the study is G. Almond's structural-functional analysis that defines the political system according to functions it fulfils in the society. Departing from the theory mentioned above, I define the criteria of the political system, which I then apply on the specific reality of the Vatican state. These include the existence of society and existence of functions the system fulfils. As I examine the issue of political system, the study also encompasses a description of state characteristics of Vatican. The central part of the study is dedicated to the application of the criteria to the reality of the Vatican state. I first survey the issue of the existence of society. I come to conclusion that it is not possible to consider as society neither the inhabitants of the state, nor the Catholic Church as the community of believers. Consequently, I...
Origin and development of the Vlaams Blok-Vlaams Belang. Extreme right-wing or populistic party
Kratochvílová, Andrea ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The thesis "Origin and development of the Vlaams Blok - Vlaams Belang. Etreme right-wing or populistic party." deals with a Belgian political party Vlaams Blok/Vlaams Belang, which has been often accused of right-wing extremism. That was the main reason behind the dissolution of the Vlaams Blok in 2004 by the verdict of Ghent, but it was soons substituted by a similar political party Vlaams Belang, which has an identical program and leadership. VB's primary goal remains the division of the country, mainly because Flanders, the richer part of Belgium, are feeling that the poorer part of the country (Valonia) are holding them back. Another reason behind the fight for division is the language differences. The party often uses the division of Czechoslovakia as a reference. Even though VB has a constantly growing base of supporters, the traditional parties refuse to accept it into a dialogue or share the ruling of the country with it. Paradoxically, this can turn out to be a helpful act for VB, as it might turn the party into a sort of a martyr in the eyes of the public. More than that, those who voted for VB, might become angry, because the party they voted for cannot officially take part in ruling the country. Thus, VB is gaining more and more popularity among general people, mostly because of their...

Zadražilová, Dagmar ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (referee)
This thesis concentrates on the revival of the Cornish language from political point of view. It analyses the role of the language in re-thinking Cornish identity both within England and the United Kingdom. The phenomenon of Cornish cultural renaissance (with the focus on the language as a possible vehicle of political demands) covers the historical development, process of devolution as well as current political evolvement in Cornwall, England and the UK. The aim of this thesis is to find the answer to question whether the revived Cornish language could serve as a main aspect within Cornwall's endeavour to greater self-governance. Regarding the theoretical framework, theories of M. Hechter, B. Anderson and M. Hroch were discussed.

The transformation of the relation of executive and legislative powers in Finland after 1982
Vorlová, Kateřina ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
The Master's thesis The transformation of the relation of executive and legislative powers in Finland after 1982 enters on the form of the Finnish political system during almost past thirty years. First, it defines terms "semi-presidentialism" and "parliamentarism" on a basis of Duverger's, Shugart's and Carey's and Sartori's perception. Both terms are crucial for a subsequent analysis of the Finnish formal and material constitution. Then, it follows authors' view of the Finnish issue. Consequently, it focuses on a development of the constitutional system of Finland after 1982. It deals with the original Constitution of Finland of 1919 and the Parliament Act of 1928, and their updated versions of 1982, subsequently with a modification of the Finnish political system between 1982 and 1999, and finally with the current Constitution of Finland adopted in 1999 and in effect since 2000. Eventually, it analyzes a practical functioning of Finnish political system after 1982, thus an activity of presidents Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari and Tarja Halonen and their relation to a parliament and a government. The purpose of the Master's thesis is the first of all to confirm the presumption that current Finland is a parliamentary and not a semi-presidential system, then to specify to what extent the material...
Quinquennat - French Presidential Five-Year Plan
Topičová, Vendula ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The Presidential Five-Year Plan - in other words a presidential mandate whose length is set for five years - became part of the French constitution through the constitutional law of 2nd October 2000. The first three chapters of this work deal with the period preceding the presidential five-year plan: the history of presidential seven-year plan, first debates about changing the length of the mandate and functioning of French institutions before the five-year plan. The second part of this work concentrates on the presidential five-year plan itself and the questions of its "wedging" into the French political system. The final chapter focuses on a rather fresh revision of the constitution that took place in the years 2007-2008. The changes that make part of this revision could help to return balance into the executive - legislature relationship after the five-year plan.

The historical roots of Indian federalism (1905-1956)
Holman, Jaroslav ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Strnad, Jaroslav (referee) ; Baar, Vladimír (referee)
The dissertation deals with historical roots of the Indian federalism. It focuses on the the first six decades of the twentieth century. At the beginning of this period India was a colonial realm (Indian Empire) consisting of the provinces of British India on one hand and the princely states on the other. At the end of the period, though deprived of the territories that had gine to Pakistan, India was a sovereign federal republic consisting of union states, the boundaries of which were mostly determined according to the "linguistic" principle. The year 1905, set as a starting point in the title ofthe study, brought the partition ofBengal (politically the most important province of British India), resulting in widespread protests all over India and in radicalization of Indian nationalism. It also strengthened autonomist tendenci es and thus provided a strong impetus to the federal idea. The final year of the period, set in the title of the study, brought the enactment of the States Reorganization Act, 1956, which finalised the formation of all main features of the Indian federal system. From the institutional point of view, the system has not been changed in any significant aspect since. India through this Act became a trne "ethno-federation" or "ethno-federal" state. In the author' s view a solid basis was...
