The author of the bachelor thesis set another goal to find out the peculiarities of nursing care before and after arthroscopy of the shoulder. Information gathered from patients and nurses are categorized and compared. According to the research we find out how patients perceive arthroscopic operation of the shoulder and the related hospitalization. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis deals with the history of surgical disciplines. It deals with the creation of orthopedics as a separate discipline, with the beginnings of anesthesia and with the need for a sterile environment in operating room. It describes anatomy of the shoulder joint, examination methods, indications and contraindications for arthroscopic operation of the shoulder joint. We focus on arthroscopy itself, describing the process of surgery and the types of arthroscopic procedures. In the practical part of the bachelor thesis is contained a research survey, which was realized for this work. We determine research questions for interview with patients and nurses in the department of orthopedic surgery. We use a pre-prepared semi-structured interview. Questions concern pre-operative preparation and post-operative nursing care in point of view of patient. The questions are focused also of patient awareness. We are looking for peculiarities of nursing care from the point of view of the general nurse. As an indication of the peculiarity of nursing care, the nurses have reviewed the sensitivity and momentum of the operating limb and the thorough hygiene of the operating field. Pre-operative preparation was found to be more positive in patients. And in post-operative care, it was found that there was too little active search to help patients. In the thesis, in connection with the realized research, has created an information brochure for patients, that contains results of the research survey.
