Specifics of communication of people with dementia
Čížková, Anna ; Marádová, Eva (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of communication of people with Alzheimer's disease. It's aim is to describe and assess - on the base of a case study of four married couples - what changes in communication may occur due to Alzheimer's disease, what supportive and new communication strategies may be used by the carers and their relatives, whether they were offered professional counselling on communication and whether they would welcome speech therapy. A semi-structured interview method was chosen to obtain relevant data. The data were analysed using an open coding method followed by categorisation. They are presented in a case study designs. Communication changed for all couples, always in a different form and extent. The changes affected all linguistic levels, with the most significant variations occurring on the lexical-semantic and pragmatic levels, and to a lesser extent on the morphological- syntactic and phonetic-phonological levels. The use of supportive communication strategies and aids was observed in a small extent, more like a natural complement to communication. Professional counselling proved to be sufficient, perhaps because all respondents use the service of the Alzheimer Point counselling team. Speech therapy councelling was not offered to the respondents. As changes in communication...
Analysis of the Internet Discussions According to Goffman's Theory of Focused Interaction
Čížková, Anna ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Tremčinský, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the phenomenon of internet discussions on Facebook. The starting theoretical framework for the thesis is Erving Goffman's focused interaction and the principles of fun in games theory in terms of focused interaction. The aim of this study is to find out whether the elements of fun occur in the researched environment and what form they take up. Research units were specified as discussions on the official Facebook websites of chosen online news portals. These discussions are embodied in the comments section below shared political article. 70 research units were subjected to conversation analysis. The results of the analysis show that most of the examined internet discussions can be determined as focused interaction and the elements of the game are strongly present in the discussions. The real situation in a virtual environment, however, differs from the way game elements manifest themselves in the face-to-face interaction, in which Goffman defined the concept of focused interaction originally. This work also deals with the situation of the participants leaving the interaction. In this case, it appeared that not all the characteristics of the internet discussions can be interpreted in terms of fun in games theory. Some aspects of the interaction in a virtual environment...

Use of non-pharmacological approaches in the care for elderly with dementia Anna Čížková ABSTRACT Subject of the present work is use of non-pharmacological methods in care about seniors with dementia in residential care homes for the elderly. The theoretical part of the work describes the problem of dementia and issues of professional and non-professional care. Five selected non-pharmacological methods, namely reminiscence, validation, pre-therapy, basal stimulation and Montessori approach, are described as well. The aim of the present work is to examine the awareness of nursing staff about the five non- pharmacological methods and to evaluate to what extend are these approaches used in residential care homes for the elderly. The level of personnel training in these approaches was investigated as well. A questionnaire survey method was selected for obtaining data about the investigated problem. A dedicated questionnaire was sent out to all residential care homes for the elderly in the Czech Republic. Filled questionnaires were received from 134 respondents. Statistical analysis of responses revealed that non-pharmacological approaches are known and used by the majority of personnel. The data showed that basal stimulation and reminiscence are best known theoretically by the staff, while the Montessori...
