Šírková, Klára ; Lukášová, Tereza (advisor) ; Zubíková, Adéla (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse effectivity of the selected measures of health policy of the individual governments of the Czech Republic in the period 2005-2016. Special attention is paid to Policy Statements of the Government of the Czech Republic in the field of healthcare, and to comparison of these statements with subsequent government measures. The theoretical part deals with the general theory of the health policy and its influence on the economy. Furthermore, there is outlined the historical development of the health policy since its inception to implementation of the health policy in the Czech Republic. The practical part first analyses the individual program statements of the Governments and examines the subsequent measures. Then it is focused on the selected national economic indicators, such as healthcare spending and their structure or founding, and their development, which compares with the governmental measures in the given years. Finally, the work summarizes the findings and evaluate the benefits or pitfalls of various measures of health policy. This topic is very timely given the current development of the health policy in the Czech Republic.
Comparison of Health Care Financing System in the Czech Republic and in Singapore in the years 2005–2015
Hofmanová, Veronika ; Lukášová, Tereza (advisor) ; Zubíková, Adéla (referee)
This bachelor thesis compares health care system financing, private and public expenditures, quality of health care and demographic indicators in the Czech Republic and Singapore. The differences in financing between mentioned systems are based on different historical development. The Singaporean system of financing is based on individual responsibility to save money on their own health account and co-finance health care. It is possible to claim that this system is more effective because people do not abuse health care and protect their own health. The Czech system is based on solidarity. People pay according to their income and they use it as they need but it does not lead to effective use of health care and to responsibility for their own health and total health expenditures rise. However, both systems have the same function, they provide health care to all inhabitants. The Singaporean system guarantees health care to the poor by a fund (Medifund) which is financed by the government. This is a current topic for national economics because health care expenditures rise. This systems comparison could provide an impulse to improve the Czech financing system.
Curse or Blessing: natural resources and economic growth - comparison of the development of Botswana, Nigeria, Norway and Canada in early 21st century
Zubíková, Adéla ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Zeman, Karel (referee)
This thesis seeks to verify the concept of so-called resource curse at the beginning of the new millennium. The theoretical part defines the symptoms of the alleged curse, curse transmission channels and criticism of the concept. Compared to other studies dealing with the theme of the resource curse this work is not focused on just one transmission channel. The practical part verifies several hypotheses established by comparing research papers on impacts of natural resources. The validity of the Prebisch-Singer hypothesis, Dutch disease symptoms and a negative impact on political institutions (inclination toward authoritarianism, high level of corruption, high government spending, low efficiency of economic and political decision-making and low investment in education) is verified. For the analysis have been selected two African countries (Nigeria and Botswana) and two advanced countries (Canada and Norway). The last part of this thesis provides policy implications. The results confirm the Prebisch-Singer hypothesis for selected commodities in the long term and some of the symptoms of Dutch disease at the beginning of the new millennium. Hypotheses regarding the impact on the political institutions have not been confirmed, since the results varied across the countries. The high vulnerability of the countries to movements in commodity prices was found.
Foreing Exchange Intervention of the CNB and their short-term impact on foreign trade
Zubíková, Adéla ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
This thesis analyzes the causes and effects of foreign exchange intervention of Czech National Bank (CNB) in November 2013. Instrument of foreign exchange interventions was chosen because of the limited effectiveness of other instruments of monetary expansion, when the economy is in the liquidity trap. Due to the current low interest rates it's not possible to draw on the experience of using the CNB's foreign exchange interventions between 2001 and 2002, the work therefore presents a comparison of short-term interventions impact with the impact of foreign exchange interventions in Switzerland, whose motive for the announcement of the foreign exchange rate commitment was similar. Based on the analysis of macroeconomic variables before and after the initiation of interventions is examined the hypothesis that foreign exchange interventions didn't have a significant impact on the domestic economy in the short term. Part of this work is to analyze the impact of interventions on foreign trade. Thesis verifies the hypothesis that short-term impact of foreign exchange interventions was consistent with the concept of J-curve. To verify this hypothesis is used time series analysis for selected commodities of foreign trade. The results of the study confirm a hypothesis as the weak impact of the intervention on the domestic economy and the validity of the concept of J-curve for the majority of selected commodities.
