Contemporary German Youth Language Based on the Youth Magazines "Bravo" and "Cool". A Linguistic Study

This diploma thesis examines the linguistic construction of the youth language in the widely read teenage magazines "Bravo" and "Cool". The aim of this work is to determine what linguistic and stylistic means define the speech of young people. In the foreground of the analysis, which seeks to define the differences and similarities between the German and Austrian youth languages using a sociolinguistic basis rooted in the theory of language varieties, is the ever-growing phenomenon of combining German with English, i.e. "Denglisch".The study also explores the extent to which text genres in mass media influence linguistic varieties. The thesis initially defines the specialized terms in the context of variation linguistics, with diatopic and diastratic varieties playing an important role. Subsequently, the features of youth language are presented, with an emphasis on linguistic and stylistic markers. The results show that both "Bravo" and "Cool" include Anglicisms. The investigation reveals that the use of lexical neologisms in "Bravo" is not significantly more frequent than in "Cool". It appears that both magazines occasionally employ such neologisms to make their texts more interesting and appealing, but they may not be as prominent as other stylistic features and linguistic aspects. This bachelor thesis treats the topic of the influence of the English language on the German language. It explores which English terms are regularly used in everyday life. The thesis is divided into two parts - the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the development of the German language regarding the English lexicon and the international lexicon. The practical part explores the word meaning of each English expression, its usage, linguistic characterization, and categorisation. The list of anglicisms contents different areas - for example the words used in journalism. The aim of the thesis is to prove that German and English are closely interconnected. Phraseologisms in Austrian Journalistic Texts

The subject of this bachelor thesis is phraseologisms in Austrian journalistic texts. For the purposes of this thesis two dailies Der Standard and Österreich were chosen and the phraseologisms in them were studied for three weeks. However, not all phraseologisms were examined, but only those which appeared in both dailies in columns concerning domestic and international news. The objective is to compare the use of phraseologisms in these newspapers. This study sought to determine, if there are any tendencies to use the same phraseologisms to cover the same subjects or if certain phraseologisms tend to appear in similar columns. Furthermore, the phraseologism were analysed on the basis of the classifications of two prominent German linguists. The classifications are mentioned in the introductory part of the thesis.
Light verb constructions and their using in German journalistic texts

This bachelor thesis deals with issue of light verb constructions and its usage in German journalistic texts. The objective of the theoretical part is to explain on the basis of scholarly literature basic terms such as light verb construction (LVC), function verb and full verb. After that light verb constructions are also distinguished by syntactic and semantic criteria, which specify the rules for usage of light verb constructions in practice. The individual rules are shown on example sentences. The objective of practical part is to analyze and compare usage of light verb constructions in German journalistic texts (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Bild) using tables as well as graph sands identify from semantic view point which types of light verb constructions were in texts most often. On the basis of this observation it was found out that serious newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung contained more of these constructions than tabloid Bild. Characteristics of the wovels in German language compares to those in the Czech language Annotation in the english language My thesis explores characteristics of the vowels in German language and compares them to those in the Czech language. The thesis is devided into the following parts: introduction, theoretical part, practical part and the ending. Introduction summarizes the reasons that made me choose this particular topic, it presents the literature and my opinion on why phonetics is such an important part of communication, my expectations and the description of my work.
