Finally, it presents Ray Oldenburg's theory of the third place in relation to urban cafés. The Effect of the Voting Advice Application on Decision-Making in the 2023 Presidential Election in the Czech Republic
Králová, Anna ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Linek, Lukáš (referee)
There are many ways in which we obtain the information on which we make decisions, and this is true for everyday decisions as well as electoral ones. This paper directly addresses the topic of voting advice applications (VAA), specifically the election calculator, in the context of the third direct election of the President of the Czech Republic in 2023. The aim was to uncover what effect the election calculator has on voting decisions in this particular election. The research involved an experiment supplemented by pretest and posttest questionnaires with 105 participants. Based on the research results, I was unsuccessful in confirming the research hypothesis about the "volební kalkulačka" effect. Thus, I have not been able to show that the participants would change or shape their voting decisions following the resulting recommendation of the "volební kalkualčka". However, despite these findings, and based on the other findings of the thesis, I can summarise that research participants perceived the VAA as a rather beneficial, helpful way of obtaining information during the pre-election period. Key words voting advice application, voter decision-making, presidential election, experiment
Managing and implementing change in the organisation
Svobodová, Markéta ; Mudd, Dana (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on managing and implementing change in an organization and examines key aspects of this issue. The first part of the thesis provides a theoretical framework that defines the key concepts such as change, an organization, or change management. It also defines several types of change and discusses the factors that can influence the success of change initiatives. Furthermore, the work identifies the key determinants of an organizational culture that can influence the acceptance of changes and the adaptability of an organization. Several of the best-known approaches and models that can be used in the implementation of changes also form a part of the theoretical basis. As a part of the research section of the thesis, an analysis of a specific case of an organization recently struggling with the implementation of fundamental changes was carried out, thus enabling the topic to be presented through a practical example. Research methods include the collection of primary data through face-to-face interviews with stakeholders. The aim was to capture the change management process in this organization and identify the benefits and limitations of the change implementation process. The research results provide insights into the success of change management in practice, present the...
Opinion leadership and social-media influencers
Mejzr, Vojtěch ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Linek, Lukáš (referee)
(in English): The thesis dealt with the context of young people's electoral participation in the Czech Parliamentary elections in 2021 and the exposition to two social media influencers (SMI) who, before the elections, tried to mobilize young people to participate through their content on social media. It is precisely SMI, due to their specific position, who are often associated with the ability to function as opinion leaders on social media. Until recently, research on this effect has been examined mainly in relation to consumer behavior and marketing. However, newer studies show that the para-social relationships that young people manifest towards SMIs and the ability of social-media influencers to mediate information and reduce its complexity, can also play a role in political participation for young voters. Thus using cross-sectional analysis of primary data, the work empirically tests this influence for two selected SMIs in context of the 2021 elections - Jakub "Kovy" Kovář and Martin "Mikýř" Mikyska, and shows that in relation to voter turnout, engaging with their content had a significant effect on the group of followers who are closest to them. Furthermore, tthe influence was higher the less these followers were interested in politics and political content. The study thus offers empirical...
The Youth in the Church
Bouček, Matěj ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Vostruhová, Anna (referee)
The text of this thesis focuses on the group of protestant youth and the question of their position within the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (hereinafter referred to as ECCB). The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the reader to the relationship between young people and religion, the ECCB itself, the perception of protestant youth, the history of this group, its functioning and organizational structure, work with young people in the church and existing research on youth. The central point of the thesis is a view of protestant youth from two perspectives. The qualitative pre-research based on semi-structured interviews is designed to outline how young protestants are perceived by the church as represented by commissioned workers with youth at congregational, regional, and church-wide levels. It is also to establish themes for the quantitative part of the thesis and to describe the essential characteristics of protestant youth. Then, survey aims to complement these characteristics with data directly from ECCB youth and focus on the role of faith, God and the Bible in their lives, the forms in which youth engage in church, the ways in which youth are drawn to the church, or whether youth and ECCB collaboration is sufficiently fulfilled. In addition to a more detailed description of the...
Relation of risk perception with cultural worldviews and value orientation of the Czech population
Ruso, Filip ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
(in English) This thesis deals with the perception of risk in the context of social sciences in the Czech environment. The thesis specifically examines the connection of risk perception with cultural worldviews and value orientations. Risk perception is measured using Likert scales of risk items, cultural worldviews through the concept of cultural cognition, which is based on the cultural theory of Douglas and Wildavsky, and value orientations through Schwartz's PVQ scales. Analysis of the data from the online questionnaire survey showed that only two of the four cultural worldviews - hierarchism and individualism - are transferable to the Czech environment, and therefore two indices - positive discrimination and empathy and anti- individualism - were created from the remaining items. Furthermore, cultural worldviews, unlike value orientations, were found to be more closely related to specific risk items and to contribute significantly to explaining risk perception. Hierarchists, for example, see great danger in accepting foreign migrants and, together with individualists, show greater concern towards risks threatening the social order. Environmental risks raise concerns among supporters of positive discrimination and empathy. Value orientations, as opposed to cultural worldviews, are much better...
