Graves of Bylany culture from Lovosice against a background of local settlement

The rescue archeological research on the locality Lovosice II - Industrial Zone Aoyama under the direction of The Institute of Archeological Research and Preservation of Historical Monuments in Most was a material base and resource for the labour of a bachelor degree. The Institute granted also the funeral findings from the older Iron Age, the three graves of Bylany culture were chosen for this labour. The archeological locality Lovosice (Czech republic, Region of Ústí nad Labem, township Litomice) laying in geomorphologic structured countryside of eské stedohoí belongs to one of the most endangered and at the same time the most explored prehistoric territory of the north-west Bohemia. There is documented practically continuous habitation from Neolithic age to the present and also the intersection of the distance trading ways. The Bylany culture is above all known for its funeral findings. The group of the amply equipped burials with the wagons, yokes, toggeries and armature are specific for this culture. In addition to this group the low equipped graves were documented, in them the richest findings were missing and the synthetic works don't pay frequently enough attention to them. Bylany culture in Prague based on the evaluation of burial grounds Ďáblice and Suchdol

The presented thesis deals with the evaluation of the graves, preliminary dated in the early Iron Age, made during rescue archaeological excavations in Prague-Ďáblice and Prague-Suchdol within years 2000-2004. The basis of this work is typhologicall and chronologicall analysis of movable artifacts, funeral rite analysis and evaluation of burial grounds as a whole. Theoretical questions derive from this, concerning social structure of Bylany culture. On the theoretical level, the issue of the settlement context is also considered. Burial-ground of Bylany Culture from Lovosice

The work is concerned with the archaeological finds from Lovosice, Ustecky kraj, CR obtained in 2002. The major part consists of description and drawing documentation of 15 well-equipped from the Early Iron Age. Movable artifacts are analyzed typologically and chronologically. The funeral rite is evaluated in the frame of spatially-functional relations between human relicts and burnt offerings. Immovable finds are analyzed with respect to the parameters of holes, construction and things. In the same way the graves are categorized into the finding groups. The funeral site is evaluated with regard to the form, structure, total range and chronological trend. The main goal consists in a definition of evolutionary horizons of the funeral site and their comparison between Czech and Central European chronological systems. These horizons, in the future, can make one of the main pillars for evaluating grave and settlement finds of Hallstatt age in NW and C Bohemia. The area of Lovosice necropolis is interpreted as a site of central relevancy and the dead as elite with significant influence over the cultural and economic development of the region. Nowadays, Lovosice represents one of the richest, most widely researched and therefore most important funeral site of Ha C1 - Ha D1 in Bohemia. Keywords Hallstatt...
